It’s been a long time coming, this book. Fans of Virgin River have been fans of Rick Sudder since we met him as a young lad in the first book, Virgin River. He was the young boy that we were so hot damn proud of and he was the young boy who had a lot of growing up to do in the space of a book. He was the young boy that we all grew attached to and he’s the young boy who had us in tears and cheering him on.
We’ve waited anxiously for his book to come out and we’ve wondered who he would end up with. Well, we only have a few more weeks left to wonder what happens with Rick. It comes out on April 1, 2009 and that’s just around the corner, just a few more weeks to be patient and then we’ll finally be able to get to reading this one.
Marine corporal Rick Sudder is home early from Iraq—his tour ended abruptly on the battlefield. The carefree boy is gone, replaced by a man who believes his future is as bleak as his mirror image. But can the passion and commitment of a young woman who has never given up on him mend his broken body and shattered heart?
As the people of Virgin River rally around Rick, another recent arrival tests the tightly knit mountain town’s famous welcoming spirit. Dan Brady has a questionable past, and he’s looking for a place to start over. He’d like it to be Virgin River…if he can find a way in. But he never expects to find it in the arms of a woman who was as much an outcast as himself.
For a favorite son returned from war and an outsider looking for a home, Virgin River offers them a chance to make peace with the men they once were…and to find the dreams they thought they’d lost.
So, I’ve got to ask…by the synopsis, this sounds like Rick’s girl is going to end up being Liz. I’m not mad about it, I kind of like the whole high school sweethearts thing. It’s a good storyline and I can’t wait to read this book to see how Robyn Carr told their story. I’m also interested in reading Dan Brady’s story as well. See what he’s been up to and all that. To see if he’s an undercover cop or a bad guy who wants to start fresh. Should be really interesting.
So, who’s excited about this release? I know I am but who wants to see Rick get his happy ending? Is anyone going to have trouble reading Rick’s story since we’ve known him since he was in high school still?
This book is available from Mira. You can pre-order it here.
Meh… I’m not sure about this one. I love the Virgin River series and I loved Temptation Ridge, but not sure about Paradise Valley. First, I’m not such a fan of Rick… and even less of Liz. Then, although I’m looking forward to Dan Brady’s story, I’m afraid he’ll be paired up with Cheryl – the town drunk no longer. Finally, Ms Carr will have to wrap up the story she started in Temptation Ridge… and again, not really liking Abbie so far.
Oh, I’m sure that Ms Carr will write a solid book, but seriously, can’t see this one becoming one of my favorites…
I had no idea this book was about Rick?!? But, yes I am looking forward to reading it. I am also looking forward to reading all about the mysterious Dan. I just picked up the last two books in this series.
I guess I should thank you guys for introducing me to a great author and series. I have not been let down yet with her heart warming stories and I am sure she will do a great job with Rick’s.
Hmmm, I think my problem is that I will still see Rick as a teenager instead of a man, and that grosses me out.
Plus I never liked Liz at all, so I’m not sure how that will go. However, I do love a high school sweetheart story.
I have to be honest, I’m not a huge Liz fan either….*shrug* Then again, perhaps the author will convince me otherwise via Paradise Valley. I would quite like to see Cheryl in a story though…
Question – do I need to read Second Chance Pass? Unfortunately, I have a bit of a hang-up about the time frame between the death of Vanni’s husband Matt and Vanni & Paul falling in love. It just seems…well, a little fast. Thank you!
I’m on the fence. I think sometimes it’s hard to move on things that happen when you’re a teenager, so that angle might be hard to move past. Plus, I’m a bit nervous about the overall storyline. It’s possible that Rick will end up being…too whiny.
However, I have faith in Robyn Carr and I’m going to try to keep an open. We’ll see.
I think that Dan will end up with Cheryl. It seemed to be setup for that at the end of Temptation Ridge.
As for Rick, I’ve always liked him. I think he deserves his HEA.
Damn so am I the only person that wants to read this? I’m not much of a Liz fan either but I won’t be mad if he ends up with her and I love Rick so I want to read his story. I’ve been wanting it for a long time now.
I hope he doesn’t end up being too whiny but like you Holly, I have faith in RC. I’m sure I’ll like it even if I didn’t care for SCP.
