My book tally for the year of 2008 is crazy! I can’t believe I read as much as I did. I know I read a lot each week but when you look at the totals it’s a real eye-opener. At least it was for me!

I read:
280 novels
72 novellas
49 short stories

Wow.

So after reading sooooo many stories it was extremely hard to choose my favorites but I’m gonna give it the old college try. Not all of these books were released in 2008 – some are older:

Favorite Paranormal: Demon Bound by Meljean Brook
second place goes to Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh

Favorite Historical: The Spymaster’s Lady by Joanna Bourne
second place goes to Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase

Favorite Contemporary: Blue-Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas
second place goes to Letters to A Secret Lover by Toni Blake

Favorite Fantasy: The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop (ok, I cheated on this one since it’s 3 books)
second place goes to King of Sword and Sky by CL Wilson

Favorite Sci-Fi: The Host by Stephenie Meyer
second place goes to Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair

Favorite Suspense: Over the Edge by Suzanne Brockmann

Favorite Urban Fantasy: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
second place goes to One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Favorite Novella: Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs
second place goes to I Spy Something Bloody by Josh Lanyon

Favorite M/M: Death of a Pirate King by Josh Lanyon
second place goes to My Fair Captain by JL Langley (and believe me it wasn’t easy to choose between the two!)

Besides the ones I’ve mentioned above these are some of my other favorite reads for the year:

Novels:

Retreat from Love by Samantha Kane
Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs
Natural Born Charmer by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Sugar Daddy by Lisa Kleypas
Lord of the Fading Lands by CL Wilson
Lady of Light and Shadows by CL Wilson
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Dark Needs at Night’s Edge by Kresley Cole
A Perfect Match by Shelley Bradley
Dark Desires after Dusk by Kresley Cole

Novellas:
Thicker Than Blood by Meljean Brook
Scions: Perception by Patrice Michelle
Tech Support by Jet Mykles

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year filled with many, many new books.

  1. Okay, forget about your favorite books for a moment…280 novels, 72 novellas and 49 shorts?? Holy shitten-caboodles, woman!! That is ALOT of books!!

You have some great listed, some I listed also. I still have Cry Wolf to read. I’ll have to get to that one real soon. ANd again I need to get Blue Eyed Devil. I keep seeing it on different lists! Hopefully it will come out in paperback soon.

    And Happy New Year, Tracy!

  2. Wow, I read less than 1/2 of what you did. I feel so inferior LOL.

And I agree with some of your choices – love Anne Bishop, Brockmann and Kleypas. The Alpha & Omega novella.

Can't wait to see what else you read in '09. I started on SEP cuz of you and I'm sooo glad I listened.

  3. Please excuse my earlier deletion – I’m an idiot. Nuff said.

haha! Holy Shitten-caboodles. That’s a new one for me. I think I’ll be using it from now on. lol
Amy – Cry Wolf is wonderful but definitely read Alpha and Omega first…Cry Wolf will make more sense. And YES, you need to read BED. Did you read Sugar Daddy?

CJ – Again, YES you need to read BED! It’s on everyone’s list cuz it’s so good. I’ve only read one of her historicals but so far I’m loving her contemps.

KB – We are soul mates baby. I saw your list and said to myself – holy crap we’re like twins!

Stacy – please don’t feel inferior – I have no life and that’s why I read. lol I’m so glad I could start you on SEP – since I just started her this year she’s been a great new author for me. Of course I’ve read so many new-to-me authors it’s hard for me to name them all. 🙂

Happy New Year to you all!

  4. I did already read Alpha and Omega. Christine told me I should read it first. I did and had every intention of reading Cry Wolf right after but other books got in the way!

No I havent read Sugar Daddy. I don’t need to read that one first, do I?

Glad you like my word choice :)!

  5. You don’t HAVE to read Sugar Daddy first, but it does explain background on Hardy in more depth. I think you have a better feel for who he is and what he went through with his childhood.

Isn’t that so often how it is? You have every intention of reading a book next, or at least soon, and then next thing you know 6 months has gone by! lol

  6. Great list! It’s always good to see what other people are reading.

I’m waiting for the ebook of BED to come down in price – not happened yet though!

I’ll have to check out your fantasy/sci fi recommendations as I don’t read much of that genre and want to start reading more.

  7. I’m with you on Blue Eyed Devil. And The Spymaster’s Lady got an honourable mention from me. Letters to a Secret Lover and Hostage to Pleasure are a couple more we have in common 🙂

  8. What I love, Tracy, is the sheer depth of your reading. Love. It.

And yes, it’s like Sophie’s Choice to choose between Mmmmm…Nate and My Fair Adrien. Heh.

I can’t believe that I still haven’t read that Brockmann!!! Will rectify that immediately.

  9. Happy New Year to you, Tracy!

I had a doh moment when I was trying to work out how you knew how many gazillion books you had read in 2008. A lightbulb appears: ‘Oh, she counted her weekly reading list.’ I am such an idiot. LOL.

I really need to try C L Wilson – I’m seeing that name everywhere in the top picks for 2008.

    A terrific list.

  10. Jenre – I know what you mean about BED. I ended up getting Sugar Daddy and BED from the library because even the ebook price was high.

Hi Kristie – yes, we do have a few in common…I’m seeing a lot of the same books on others lists as well.

    Lb – You’re so sweet – thanks!
You haven’t read Over the Edge? Really? That was the one that that Max and Gina…well, met (trying not to do spoilers).
Nate and Adrien – Love them!

Holly – Thanks! You helped with that!:)

Kris – lol I actually keep an ongoing list on my blog on myspace and looked back on it to figure things out. I printed it out and could see what I’d read and what was going on my list.
    Happy New Year to you!

  11. Ho-lee crap you read a lot of books! My list is pathetic. Last year I had 244 reads but I didn’t break them down like you did. Man alive I’m sooo jealous!

  12. Happy New Year, Tracy! 🙂

You are a reading machine. I don’t know how you do it. I like your list, and am happy to say that I read a lot of those that made it to your favorite list, so maybe I shouldn’t feel so bad that you read oh, over 200 more books than I did last year. LOL

Amy :: You don’t HAVE to read Sugar Daddy before Blue Eyed Devil, but I would still recommend you do. It is an amazing novel, and you’ll really get a better perception of the hero of Blue Eyed Devil if you do.

  13. Rosie 244 is pretty damn wonderful! I just had to do my favs since there were so many great ones to share!

Christine – I probably shouldn’t read so many a week but when I have those lulls in my schedule at home I just find I don’t want to do anything else! 🙂
