Independent single mother Tamara Briggs wanted to find a new, sexy, no-strings-attached man-just not one as young as NASCAR driver Elec Monroe. But he sure does get her heart racing. And after she’s tricked into a blind date with him, Tamara gives in to her passion. Things screech to a halt, though, when he asks to meet her children. Whatever happened to wham-bam-thank-you ma’am? Suddenly Tamara has to decide how much risk she’s willing to take to experience the power of true love.
After all the buzz about this book, I was really looking forward to reading it. I’ve always liked Erin McCarthy and have read all her books except for her paranormals. Her books always make me laugh. This book didn’t necessarily make me laugh, but I still enjoyed every page.
The last thing single mother Tamara Briggs wants to do is get involved with a NASCAR driver. Having lost her husband to the sport, Tamara is understandably hesitant to date Elec Monroe. Not only is he a NASCAR driver and younger than her, but his family and her husband’s family hate each other. She also doesn’t want to introduce her kids to someone who could possibly die in the same way their father did. Even with all that, Tamara is drawn to Elec in a way that she was never drawn to her husband.
Elec Monroe never thought he’d fall for a woman with kids. Tamara is everything that he never knew he wanted. All he has to do is convince her to give him a chance. He knows the reason Tamara wants to keep their relationship secret, but as the days and months go by, Elec knows that Tamara is it for him.
This book was just great. McCarthy did a wonderful job writing Tamara’s inner struggle. Tamara was a woman that always put her kids before everything, including herself. She was really was selfless, until she met Elec. Then she decided that she deserved a little happiness herself. You couldn’t help but be happy when she was happy b/c her happiness was so long in coming. And Elec? I’d like to have an Elec myself. He was obviously a very mature twenty eight year old. Sometimes when the man is younger than the woman, it bothers me b/c the age difference is so glaringly obvious. That wasn’t the case here, which made me like the book that much better.
If you’re looking for a good contemporary, this is the book for you.

But what’s up with the funky name… Elec? Did she ever explain that?
This one is far up on my to be bought list. A good contemporary is always good.
Elec is a funky name. There was something in the acknowledgements, but nothing about why the name Elec. At first I kept reading it as Eric.
If you guys want a good contemp, this is definitely one to pick up!
I’m a big fan of Erin McCarthy’s books, especially her contemporaries. I finished this book last weekend and absolutely loved it. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series about Ty and Imogen.
