TITLE: The Englor Affair (release date Nov. 11)
AUTHOR: J. L. Langley
SERIES: Yes this is book 2 in the Sci-Regency Series
Book 1: My Fair Captain
Reason for Reading:
After reading book 1 how could I not?
Summary:
In hiding who he was, Payton found himself…and the man he would grow to love.
After his brother is kidnapped, Prince Payton Townsend masquerades as an Admiral’s assistant in order to track the culprits through the tangled mysteries of the planet Englor. He finds way more than he bargained for in the form of Marine Colonel Simon Hollister.
Simon is no ordinary soldier. He’s heir to Englor and his life is mapped out for him: throne, bride, and eventually an heir. He never expected a dalliance with Payton to blossom into love, or that the organization that taught him to lead would threaten that love—and their lives.
Danger and intrigue abound as they learn more about their shared enemy, and about each other. What they learn could help them rise above to an enduring love—or pull them apart.
Thoughts/Opinion:
This was a pretty darn good book. I enjoyed it very much. I love the futuristic mixed in with the historical. It definitely puts an interesting twist on the stories.
First we have Payton. I had issue with Payton’s age at first – he was only 19 – but he was very mature and after reading for a while I pretty much forgot how old he was – which was a good thing. He was born to royalty and highly educated so I think that made a huge difference. Also, the book is set in the future but life is lived in the Regency fashion – men had to be more mature – IMO. His age aside I liked Payton – a lot. He was thrust (yes, a good word for the book) into this role that he didn’t particularly want but he sucked it up and did the best he could. I highly admired that about him.
Then there’s Si: Simon was also thrown into being King of Englor at the age of 27. Talk about a daunting task. But like Payton he was raised to his duties and did them to the best of his abilities. He proved that he was a man to reckon with but he had a good heart.
As much as I like this book there was something that I felt was missing in the first part of the book. Simon loved Payton and the feeling was mutual. Despite the love that was there (even though they hadn’t told each other of the love) I thought that this book lacked the awesome emotions that My Fair Captain instilled in me. I certainly felt more passion/emotion from Payton than Simon. Simon’s feelings were plainly stated in the book but yet I didn’t feel he was as invested as Payton was. Now their last 2 scenes in bed (or on the gym floor – whatever the case may be) together were awesome and wonderful and loving and wonderful. That’s what should have been there from the get go.
Oh, and apparently the ass to mouth issue I had with Trial by Fire by Jo Davis, I didn’t have with TEA. Why you ask? IDK – maybe because it’s two men and I just expect them to do things like that? Who’s to say? The atm had absolutely no effect on me whatsoever – go figure.
Was the author new to you and would you read something by this author again?
No, not new to me and absolutely!
Are you keeping it or passing it on?
Keeping it!
Did you enjoy the book? Very much
Would you recommend this book to others? Yes
Score: 4.5 out of 5
And speaking of A-t-M…here’s a question…why did they not use a condom in that scene in Trial by Fire or did they and I skipped it? Seemed to me that there was dicussion about one, but none used. I dunno about you, but I was in a new relationship with a guy, I DEFINITELY wouldn’t let him inside me w/o one, no matter how much he insists he’s clean. *ahem* Sorry, ranting.
Anyway, I haven’t read either one of these books. I know, My Fair Captain is huge amongst so many, but I just can’t seem to get myself to read m/m romance. Don’t know why…maybe b/c though I have a lot of gay friends I can’t wrap my mind around the concept of two guys having sex w/ each other? That’s the question for the ages.
Sorry for the epic comment…it’s late and my brain likes to rev up at this hour. Sucks.
And I wrote about 2700 words tonight. I’m on a roll (and I emailed you too).
Nite, chicky!
That should’ve said “if I was in a new relationship”.
Sheesh.
Boy!! When you go for a new look – you REALLY go for a new look!! I Liiiike it!!
I love the new look, Tracy! It’s really pretty!
WOW what a snazzy new page! I just finished this book last night. I really enjoyed it also, even though MFC is still my favorite.
I find in MM there is not enough passionate kissing between the two lovers, and I am so happy Langely made sure to have Simon and Payton do some tonsil hockey.
But, I maybe a prude and excuse me if I am crude, but I am not a fan of the rim, let me suck on your hole and lub you up scenes. Bleck!
I have one word to say to you:
Jock.
Heh. JL…she’s my kind of woman.
BL – In TBF – I have no idea. I think because he couldn’t have kids – but that doesn’t do anything to protect against disease does it? Nope.
When I was younger I thought that the reading about men having sex would be disgusting but when I finally read it it didn’t bother me at all.
Congrats on the writing! I’ll check my email!
Kristie – Thanks!
Kati – thanks to you too!
KB – Yes – I love the tonsil hockey! I love deep kisses – no matter who’s doing them – m/f or m/m. Yeah – I’m not a fan of rimming either but these are two men so it was ok for me.
LB – OMG I typed stuff about the jock strap about a million times and couldn’t say it the way I wanted to so I just ended up deleting it. But man! Wow. That Payton’s a crazy guy! 🙂
One of my favorite scenes that was very hawt was the one in the gym when Simon thought Payton was leaving. Such hotlocker room sex going on!
Very hot locker room sex!! They just needed more lube. Oh wait the just need lube! lol Any lube would have done. 🙂
heh heh heh
Love the new look. So is this as good as MFC? And yeah, I expect guys to go for that ATM stuff. WHy? IDK.
I really liked it. I didn’t like it as much as MFC but how can I compare it to Nate and Aiden? I just can’t! And yep – some of the stuff that is done in m/m books would gross me the freak out if a man and woman did it a-t-m is an example. I guess that makes me prejudiced in some way but I just can’t figure out how. lol
OMG I want it so bad I can taste it SHIT it’s already released? Where did the time go???? Paycheck please be big this week please!!!
Damn, how the fook has everyone read this before the release date? You lucky ..people. (I thought I’d better keep it clean! *g*)
I cannot wait for this to be released.
I am glad you liked it Tracy. I have only seen good reviews for this. It’s gonna be so good…. *sigh*
Sarai – no, not yet – not til the 11th.
Sayuri – *snort* you said fook! lmao. You’re funny. Yes it’s wonderful. I think you will enjoy it immensely.
