As we announced before, Sourcebooks, Inc. is re-releasing 21 of Georgette Heyer’s beloved romance novels in trade paperback throughout this year and into the summer of 2009.
Nancy Pearl, “rock star librarian” and book commentator on NPR’s Morning Edition, has added An Infamous Army (see Rowena’s review here), one of Sourcebooks’ re-issues, to her Summer Reading List!
To celebrate, Sourcebooks has agreed to sponsor a giveaway here at Book Binge. Leave a comment on this post before noon Sunday, July 13 telling us your favorite summer read, or even better, your favorite Heyer book, and you’ll be entered to win one of four books from the list below:
Cotillion
Friday’s Child
The Royal Escape
False Colours
Lady of Quality
Black Sheep
Faro’s Daughter
I’ve just started reading Georgette Heyer’s books in the past year. I’m a little embarrased to admit that I never really heard of her until I read about her on various reader blogs. My favorite Heyer so far is Venetia. I’d love to try another one!
I’ve never read a Heyer. Bad me. I’ve just gotten back to reading historicals and have been told I have to read the one who started it all with historicals. 🙂
My favorite summer read – it is still early this year but I’m looking forward to Suzanne Brockmann’s latest out later this month.
Oh I haven’t read any of Heyer’s books!
By Summer read you mean, lighthearted easy read? I’ve read so many good books! My fav lighthearted read so far this Summer would be Natural Born Charmer by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Very cute and funny.
I haven’t read any Heyer books yet, either (but I want to).
As far as summer read, I’d probably recommend The Summerhouse by Jude Devereaux.
I’m thrilled at the re-release news as I’ve had no luck whatsover searching in the library or USB! My summer reading list is growing alarmingly, but I’m very proud to have taken the leap and included, for the first time ever, some ebooks.
I think my favorite Heyer as a *romance* would be Faro’s Daughter, but my favorite in general is Cotillion. It’s so funny and unexpected.
I’m always a little shocked by romance readers who don’t know Heyer. It reminds me of when I was studying psychology and someone I knew was disgusted that you could get a psych degree without studying Freud. 😉
I have never read her books but they sound wonderful and I love historical fiction. Thanks for the giveaway! You ladies are awesome!

Count me as another who’s never read a Georgette Heyer book. Would love to give her a try.
My favorite summer read so far this year is Charlie All Night by Jennifer Crusie. Fast, funny read.
For me it’s a tie between Venetia and Devil’s Cub. I can never choose.
My favorite Georgette Heyer novel is Regency Buck.
As for my favorite summer read I would recommend the book I just finished,The Savage Garden by Mark Mills.
I’ve never read a Heyer either. It wasn’t until this year that I read Jane Austen, so I’m just a bit late to the game. 😀
I’ve heard that she’s a good writer, so sign me up! 🙂
Great! I never read Georgette Heyer before but keep meaning to. My favorite summer read?? Any romance really ; )
I remember spotting an orange hardcover book in my high school library. It had been shoved to the back of a shelf and forgotten.
Ragged and frankly, quite ugly 🙂 something about it made me pick it up. It was called Bath Tangle by someone called Georgette Heyer, written on the spine in a metallic red embossed script. Having never heard of her, I leaned against a desk to skim it and ……. need I say more?
I will never forget the tussle of wills between Ivo and Serena. My first alpha male LOL I was enthralled.
To date, I think I’ve read most of her romances. I can’t name my absolute favourite but some of the top ones are are These Old Shades, Devil’s Cub, Venetia, Sylvester, The Masqueraders, Simon the Coldheart, Beauvallet, The Spanish Bride…… okay, okay, you get the point….
Heyer rocks!
I have never read a Georgette Heyer book. My favorite summer read so far has been To Taste Temptation by Elizabeth Hoyt.
I’ve never been sure where to start with Heyer. I’d love to try her out this summer. My favorite summer read so far has been Rites of Spring (Break) by Diana Peterfreund. It’s the third of her Ivy League Novels and they rock!
I love Heyer–and I love these pretty Sourcebooks reissues. My faves are Venetia and Devil’s Cub. Oh, and The Nonesuch. 🙂
When I’m exasperated with the world and all its self-important peoples and dull duties, I hide away in my fort of Georgette Heyer books. She has kept me sane and smiling for the past 10 years, marching me through adolescent dramas and college papers with the lure of a witty romance at the end of the finish line.
My favorite Heyer is The Nonesuch. There’s no rational reason why. It just makes me happy and keeps luring me back for just one more reread.
This summer’s been rough, so I’ve stocked my summer bookshelf with old, favorite comforts. Currently, I’m on Julie Garwood’s Saving Grace.
Although I have heard great things about Georgette Heyer’s books, I have never actually read one. Now that they are being re-issued would be a good time to start.
Not read her yet either, although it’s on my to-do list. A favorite summer read is anything by Linda Howard, especially re-reads of her oldies!
I’ve never heard of Georgette Heyer or what her writing is like, and I’ve been reading romances for over a decade. Now my curiousity is definitely piqued. A good summer reading? I just finished reading ‘Sweet Talk’ by Susan Mallery. It was a cute read. Anything by Nora Roberts or Karen Rose is a good read, I can never decide on any one in particular.
Sadly, I’m another person who has not read Gerogette Heyer. But now I really want to!
A good summer read for me is Prince of Magic by Linda Winstead Jones.
I adore Georgette Heyer and my absolute favourites are ‘These Old Shades’ and ‘Devil’s Cub’.
Don’t include me in the giveaway, as I own all of her books.
Funny enough, while I have never read a Heyer novel, I’m currently in the middle of online book buying and just decided that I should try her out since I’ve heard nothing but good things about her work. I’m torn between which of Venetia, Devil’s Cub, and Black Sheep, I should get. But I think I’m leaning towards Devil’s Cub.
My favourite summer read so far is an actual re-read: Jo Beverly’s Hazard. I’ve always enjoyed Beverly’s writing and what’s so great about this novel is the fact that the hero is nowhere close to being part of the nobility. It’s not something you see very often and it’s a nice change from the usual.
I think what will probably make the list is a recent purchase – Julia Quinn’s “The Lost Duke of Wyndham”. I’m a sucker for a rogue who is hellbent on turning his back om his title (which is probably why I love me some regency romance, heh). I just noticed that you guys gave it great reviews so I’m even more excited to read it. You guys are right, Quinn’s been rather hit or miss lately, so I’m happy to see that she’s gotten back to form.
I can’t believe how much I wrote. Sorry.

I know I had read some Georgette Heyer when I was a teen but I don’t know which one and now would love to read them!! I love regencies, they are just so beautiful with the culture, society and dressing and just so much!!!
I started reading Jillian Hunter and so glad I did! This one is first in the Boscastle Series, THE SEDUCTION OF AN ENGLISH SCRONDREL. Its so good! This authors writing voice is just so captivating and all. This has been the best read along with A SHAMEFUL SECRET by Anne Ireland. Its in ebook at Amira Press. A sweet regency but so emotional!! She’s the same author who writes Harlequin Historicals under Anne Heiress and those too are beautiful reads. What I love in a regency too is how much I get to know the H/H and how hard its to let go of them once the book is over.
I love reading all the recommendations here. There’s not a week that goes by that I don’t read a historical when I enjoy many genres, but historicals are just a great comfort read!
I have not read any books by Georgette Heyer. One of my favorite summer read books are chick lit books or anything funny and relaxing like Jennifer Cruisie or Meg Cabot.
Faro’s Daughter is my all time fav. GH book! and it is in your contest!
Lady of Quality without a doubt!
What’s a great summer read for me? I love series since you can just relax on the beach/lake side/couch and read all day long. Plus, when you near finishing that last page of a good book – not to worry! – you know the concept/story will continue on through new characters again! Yayy, LOVE IT!
Oldy but goody that I just finished reading – Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton Family
I hate to say this but I have never read one of GH books. I’m very ashamed. sniff, sniff. But I have heard so much about her books and read reviews that I’m going to start reading them. Thanks for the post.
HI, I have started to read some of Heyer books, I read her book The grand Sophy , which I thought was pretty funny really, the author sense of funny is very dry to me . I love witty dialoge. Im pretty new to Heyer and have lot of catching up to do for sure, it should be pretty good!
LADY OF QUALITY is one that I have here. See alot recommending that one! Her books connected in any series? Or most of Heyer’s books all stand alones? Anyone know?
