Upon the Midnight Clear by Sherrilyn Kenyon

This is not a review. Though I have purchased the book and it is in my TBR pile, a curious thing happened when I opened the cover and read the Prologue.

The font size of this book is the same size of the font in the current book my 2nd grader is reading. Yup. Gremlins Don’t Chew Bubble Gum and Upon the Midnight Clear have the very same font size.

I haven’t even read the book and I feel ripped off. Sherrilyn Kenyon has been hit or miss for me the past several releases as it is. Spending $6.99 on a book that would be half the size in normal font size just seems wrong.

I’m already assuming I’ll be as disappointed w/ this book as I was with The Dream Hunter. Is this what’s in store for all the Dream-Hunters?

So has anyone else read this book yet? What did you think of the font size? What did you think of the book overall? Were you as annoyed as I was when you first started it?

  1. Casee, I haven’t bought this one yet, but thanks for the warning. I’ve been disappointed in recent releases too and I think I’ll wait on this one.

Hmm, did you by chance pick up large print by accident?
Probably not, but I figured I’d ask anyway.

I’m sorry you feel ripped off 🙁 I feel that way every time I buy an anthology.

  3. hey Casee,

I had the same problem… I opened the book and realized that the font was huge, which is really weird. And you know, I thought the book was already thin compared to other books… so imagine my surprise when I opened it and saw the font!!

I have not read it yet; however, I’ve read the X-mas story at the end of it 😛 It’s a cute one, although she’s again trying to jam too much one story.

  4. Chantal,

LOL. No, it wasn’t large print. It looks like large print, though.

    Rosie,

I would definitely hold off. I wish I had now.

    Nath,

Maybe I’ll wait until you read it. *g*

I’m not a fan of hers. In fact, this is the first book of Kenyon’s I’ve ever read—and the last.

    So bad I felt insulted.

  6. You know what? Now that I think about it the Smoke Thief by Shanna Abe is the same way for me. I bought it in eBook format and the font is HUGE! It’s so big I can’t stand to see it. I feel totally ripped off by it, too.

    Stupid fonts.

  7. My friend read it already and she said that it read exactly like an anthology story and she also mentioned that the font was HUGE. She felt ripped off too.
I’m waiting for it to be available at the library… after the major catastrophe of Dream-hunter I’m not spending the money on another one in that line of the series unless it gets much better. Apparently this book isn’t going to be the one to change my mind.
