Lightning Reviews: Yay or Nay

Posted November 7, 2007 by Holly in Discussions, Reviews | 10 Comments

How do you feel about lightning reviews? I have a ton of reviews to do. I haven’t been reading as much as I normally do, but I have been reading. And yet, you haven’t seen any reviews from me, have you? That’s because I don’t have time right now to review. I’m swamped with work, kids, life, blah blah blah.

So I’ve been thinking about doing lightning reviews. Just a quick post with three of four books and what I thought of them. But then I kind of feel guilty, like maybe I’m giving the authors and their stories the shaft. Some of these books are really good, you know? And the ones that aren’t? Well, I think they deserve a full length post about why they didn’t work. But then I’m back to having no time again.

What do you think? Would you rather see lightning reviews or no reviews at all? Or should I just keep them saved for when I do have time? No preference at all? How about a lightning review with a note that says, “If you want to know more, ask” or something like that….

…inquiring minds want to know.

UGH, I’ve got the same dilemma you do. I already do Quickie reviews– just a few sentences and then just link to more info and other reviews. But I haven’t had much time to do even that much lately because Sybil is a slave-driver and threatens to beat me with a black licorice whip.

The problem is that there are a few I really DO want to post about. I’m thinking of doing SUPER Quickies for the rest.

    I was a big help, wasn’t I? 😀

  2. No, QB, you weren’t a very big help. LOL I read your quickie reviews and think they’re fine. I agree that Syb is a slave driver. *sigh* Will I ever get out from under her thumb? LOL

    Chantal,
Ok, if you want it, I’ll post it….

  3. I like lightning reviews and have been known to indulge in them myself. Like Chantal I’d rather have the lightning review than no review at all.

I’d rather a lightning review, rather than nothing.

I say go ahead and give us a bunch at a time 🙂

  5. I don’t mind lightning reviews. That’s actually what I usually do on my own blog because I just don’t have the energy to write up full length reviews anymore. But I kind of prefer lightning reviews because they’re straight to the point. I just don’t see anything wrong with simply stating your thoughts on a book, especially when you’re pressed for time but still want to let people know what you’re reading and how you felt about it.

  6. I’m in with everyone 😀 I’d rather have lightning reviews than no reviews at all 😀 and I’m sure you’ll pull it out really well 😀 Some bloggers really pull it out well like DC and Ames 😛 I try, but alas, I just run on and on and on LOL 🙂

Another vote for lightning reviews! The easiest way I’ve found to do them – copy and paste the cover blurb from author’s web site (or Amazon or from where ever) and then do a short paragraph on what you thought. Easy peasy Japanesey….
