June New Releases!
It’s the beginning of summer. Time to hit the beach with a good book. Don’t have anything to read? With all these new releases, I’m sure you’ll be able to find something good to read while you’re relaxing under the umbrella at the pool or lazing around the sun soaked beach.
Releasing on June 1st
Queen of Babble is Meg Cabot’s paperback edition release. I’ve read the Boy Next Door and thought it was really cute, Rowena has read several of her books all ready, so I’m sure this won’t disappoint.
Cabot, author of the wildly popular Princess Diaries, delivers another charmer, this time taking on the misadventures of a college girl looking for Mr. Right in Europe. Fresh out of the Univ. of Michigan with a B.A. in history of fashion, Lizzie Nichols sets off across the pond to spend the summer with British boyfriend Andrew, whom she barely knows. When Lizzie learns that Andrew isn’t the man she imagined, she changes direction and heads for France, where her best friend Shari is working at Château Mirac in the Dordogne wine country. En route, she meets Jean-Luc de Villiers, a French-American hottie whose father owns the château, and who would be so easy to fall in love with if he weren’t already taken. Lizzie discovers sixteenth-century wineries, kir royals and vintage Givenchy dresses stored in the attic, while matching wits with Jean-Luc’s ambitious girlfriend. Although blunt dialogue about oral sex adds a titillating edge, the book is sweet to the core.
Sounds cute! Rowena, read this one and tell us how it is.
Releasing June 5th
Colleen Gleason’s second book in the Gardella Vampire Series, Rises the Night looks really good. I’m sooo looking forward to this one since I really enjoyed the first book.
In Italy, a powerful vampire is amassing the power to control the souls of the dead. Lady Victoria Gardella de Lacy-a vampire slayer for just over a year-races across Europe to stop what could be the most deadly army the Gardellas have ever faced. She is accompanied by Sebastian Vioget, a man as tempting as he is untrustworthy.
But when Victoria discovers that she has been betrayed by one of her most trusted allies, the truth will challenge all her powers as a Venator-and as a woman.
Oooo, more Sebastian and Max! Can’t wait! I’m picking it up tomorrow. 🙂
We have another vampire story coming out the same day with Laurell K. Hamilton’s, The Harlequin. This is the 15th book in the Anita Blake series. I beleive this is coming out in hardcover.
Readers haven’t seen anything yet-new in the “fabulously imagined series” (Publishers Weekly) from the #1 New York Times bestselling author.
Anita Blake is about to face the challenge of her life. Into her world-a world already overflowing with power-have come creatures so feared that powerful, centuries-old vampires refuse to mention their names. It is forbidden to speak of The Harlequin unless you’ve been contacted. And to be contacted by The Harlequin is to be under sentence of death.
Long-time rivals for Anita’s affections, Jean-Claude, Master Vampire of the City, and Richard, alpha-werewolf, will need to become allies. Shapeshifters Nathaniel and Micah will have to step up their support. And then there’s Edward. In this situation, Anita knows that she needs to call the one man who has always been there for her…
Jo Beverley’s, Lady Beware: A Novel of the Company of Rogues is also being released today.
For generations, the Cave family has been marked by scandal, madness, and violence. But after earning a reputation for bravery in the army, Horatio Cave, the new Viscount Darien, has come home to charm London society and restore the family name. He means to start with the lovely Lady Thea Debenham.
The magnetism between them is immediate, but can Thea trust the dark, sexy “Vile Viscount”? And will Thea’s brother Dare-the most dashing member of the Company of Rogues-believe that Horatio does not deserve the cursed Cave reputation?
Sounds good.
Releasing on June 19th
Linda Howard’s, Up Close and Dangerous is being released in hardcover. It must be really good, cause I can’t find a damm thing about the book online. 🙂
Never Lie to a Lady by Liz Carlyle
Lord Nash is a creature of the night — his wealth and title provide but a tenuous entrée into polite society. Notorious for his sophisticated manners and a dark, dashing elegance, rumors abound of the men he has bankrupted and the women he’s left heartbroken. But when Nash leaves his lair for a rare foray into the ton, he faces a lure of temptation all his own — an extraordinary moment of passion with a mysterious lady in the moonlight — and an obsession that will lead him into a hellish world of smugglers, spies, and intrigue. And as for his damsel in disguise, the witty and beautiful Miss Xanthia Neville, he soon learns, is as unattainable as she is tempting. And now Nash must decide if she is also dangerous. . . .
I know that Holly has read some Liz Carlyle and liked her so I’m sure we’ll want to keep an eye out on this book as well…
The Devil Who Tamed Her by Johanna Lindsey is being released in hardcover today.
Johanna Lindsey presents a sparkling, passionate Regency-era novel in which a beautiful but ruthless gossip meets her match in a dashing rake who sets out to change her wicked ways. Featuring two enthralling characters from the unforgettable bestseller The Heir, The Devil Who Tamed Her is a spirited new tale about the transforming power of true love.
Ophelia Reid is an incomparable beauty with a reputation for starting rumors and spreading them. Having purposely wrecked her engagement to Duncan MacTavish, a future marquis, which her social-climbing father arranged, Ophelia wants to return to London’s marriage mart and make her own choice of a wealthy husband. But on her journey home, something unexpected happens….
The heir to a dukedom, Raphael Locke, Viscount Lynnfield is — in spite of his disinterest in marriage — the most sought-after young lord in England. He instantly disliked Ophelia when she caused a scandal to avoid marriage to his friend MacTavish, but having comforted her in a tearful moment, he begins to wonder if she’s not all bad. So when MacTavish claims that Ophelia will never be anything but a spiteful beauty, Rafe bets his friend that he can turn her into a kindhearted lady who will one day make a good match, just not with him.
With her parents’ blessing, Rafe commandeers Ophelia’s coach and whisks her — chaperoned, of course — to his remote estate in the countryside. There, as he tries to show his furious, sharp-tongued “guest” the error of her ways, he discovers the surprising reasons for her bad behavior. Soon his daily lessons with Ophelia take effect and he finds himself irresistibly attracted to her. When Rafe champions the new and improved Ophelia’s re-entry to London society, marriage proposals pour in. Only then does Rafe start to wonder whether he hasn’t gone and fallen in love with Ophelia himself.
Rowena grew up hearing about Johanna Lindsey from her sisters, who were big JL fans so I added this in because I know that Rowena’s a big Mallory fan and would appreciate being in the know about JL’s new releases.
The 12th book in Janet Evanovich’s the Stephanie Plum series, Twelve Sharp, in being released paperback today. I’m only on book two, so I gotta hurry and catch up.
The mixture of slapstick and gunplay that has put Evanovich’s series about a sassy, less than competent New Jersey bounty hunter at the top of bestseller lists once again works its magic in Stephanie Plum’s latest caper (after 2005’s Eleven on Top). Stephanie, who freely admits her failings as a hunter of fugitives, faces a growing work backlog that threatens the continued existence of her job. Her clumsy efforts to clear some cases, along with the help of her outrageous colleague, Lula, result only in their adding another sad sack to the office payroll-a forlorn shoe salesman who’s talked off a ledge by Stephanie’s offer of a position as file clerk. Stephanie’s ambivalence toward the two men in her life becomes harder to maintain when one of them, the mysterious Ranger, is accused of kidnapping his own daughter. Countless over-the-top scenes, including one at a funeral parlor, will delight longtime fans. Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
Then you have Lean Mean Thirteen being released in hardcover, also by Janet Evanovich. More Grandma Mazer yay!
New secrets, old flames, and hidden agendas are about to send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most outrageous adventure yet!
MISTAKE #1
Dickie Orr. Stephanie was married to him for about fifteen minutes before she caught him cheating on her with her arch-nemesis Joyce Barnhardt. Another fifteen minutes after that Stephanie filed for divorce, hoping to never see either one of them again.
MISTAKE #2
Doing favors for super bounty hunter Carlos Manoso (a.k.a. Ranger). Ranger needs her to meet with Dickie and find out if he’s doing something shady. Turns out, he is. Turns out, he’s also back to doing Joyce Barnhardt. And it turns out Ranger’s favors always come with a price…
MISTAKE #3
Going completely nutso while doing the favor for Ranger, and trying to apply bodily injury to Dickie in front of the entire office. Now Dickie has disappeared and Stephanie is the natural suspect in his disappearance. Is Dickie dead? Can he be found? And can Stephanie Plum stay one step ahead in this new, dangerous game? Joe Morelli, the hottest cop in Trenton, NJ is also keeping Stephanie on her toes-and he may know more than he’s saying about many things in Stephanie’s life. It’s a cat-and-mouse game for Stephanie Plum, where the ultimate prize might be her life.
With Janet Evanovich’s flair for hilarious situations, breathtaking action, and unforgettable characters, LEAN MEAN THIRTEEN shows why no one can beat Evanovich for blockbuster entertainment.

WHY the hell would you mention LKH?? LOL Spare a friend, don’t mention this series! 😛
I’m super excited about Hidden Agendas and the Canadian Randomhouse site has info on the new Linda Howard – a rich woman’s plane crashes in the wilderness and there’s hot stuff with a pilot. Basically.
I’m pretty pumped about the LH, even tho I’ve been disappointed in her last 5 or so books.
