A human monster huntress. An immortal werewolf. Could any passion be more forbidden?
The next stand-alone installment in the electrifying Immortals After Dark series by #1 New York Times best-selling author Kresley Cole. Venture deeper into the Lore, fierce realm of the immortals—if you dare. . . .
TORMENTED IN UNIMAGINABLE WAYS
Coming off torture at the hands of his warlock captors, Munro MacRieve never expected to find his mate, or to lose her just as abruptly. Driven to desperation, the ruthless warrior uses his enemies’ own powers to reunite with her—in the distant past.
STOLEN FROM HER TIME
When a crazed werewolf crashes her wedding, Kereny “Ren” Codrina does what any cunning huntress would do: she captures him. Yet she finds herself softening toward the wounded beast—until he turns the tables and forces her into an incomprehensible future.
CAN A HUMAN AND AN IMMORTAL UNITE IN ORDER TO SURVIVE?
As danger mounts, Munro will do anything to make her undying, even sell his soul to an evil sorceress. But first he must convince his fiery mate that she belongs with him. If seduction means her survival, Munro will use every weapon in his arsenal to possess her—forever.

Munro MacRieve never expected to find his mate while being held captive by a powerful warlock. After trying to get Munro to fully let his beast out, Jels the warlock finds Kereny and brings her through time to get control over Munro. Munro has been searching for his mate for centuries. A Lykae’s need to find their mate is a very powerful force. Which makes it so much worse when Jels brings Kereny to him when he can’t protect her. To his horror, he watches his mate die before his eyes. To say Munro was devastated would be an understatement. He doesn’t have time to mourn for his lost mate because he is now under the control of the warlocks.

Although he’s being controlled by Jels, Munro’s thoughts are his own. He comes to the realization that if Jels can go back in time, he can get Munro back to Kereny’s time. He just has to figure out a way to break the hold the warlocks have on him. Kereny is nothing like Munro expected, yet everything he hoped for. The only thing that doesn’t work for Munro is that she’s mortal. Life in the Lore is no joke and a human just doesn’t belong.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I have to admit that I wasn’t really happy with Munro as a hero for about 50-60% of the book. Munro was determined to make Kereny mortal, no matter what her thoughts were on the matter. It drove me crazy for over half the book, until he finally listened to what she was saying and made the ultimate sacrifice. It really fixed everything and made me enjoy the rest of the book. I’ve been a long-time fan of the Immortals After Dark series. I started the series when only three of the books were released. So it’s been a long, long, long time since I started this series.

Overall, this was a good installment in the series. I’m really hoping she moves the Accession along because it’s getting dragged on and on. I don’t even remember when it started but it seems like it’s been 20 years or something.

This fairy tale doesn’t end with a kiss in this spellbinding Immortals After Dark tale from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole!

The terrifying king of hell...

As a boy, Abyssian “Sian” Infernas had his heart shattered by a treacherous fey beauty who died before he could exact vengeance. Millennia later, a curse has transformed him into a demonic monster—just as she’s been reincarnated. Sian captures the delicate but bold female, forcing her back to hell.

Meets his match.

Princess Calliope “Lila” Barbot’s people have hated and feared Abyssian and his alliance of monsters for aeons. When the beastly demon imprisons her in his mystical castle, vowing revenge for betrayals she can’t remember, Lila makes her own vow: to bring down the wicked beast for good.

Can two adversaries share one happily-ever-after?

As Calliope turns hell inside out, the all-powerful Sian finds himself defenseless against his feelings for her. In turn, Lila reluctantly responds to the beast’s cleverness and gruff vulnerability. But when truths from a far distant past are revealed, can their tenuous bond withstand ages of deceit, a curse, and a looming supernatural war?

I highly enjoyed this book. Kresley Cole’s books always hit the perfect balance between serious and funny. Right when it seems to get almost too deep, the story turns light and humorous. That is what I love post about her writing. I have been reading the Immortals After Dark series since the time when there were only three books out. The books used to come out fast and furious, now they just sort of trickle out every few years. I didn’t read Wicked Abyss when it first came out. I have no idea why. Then I bought it and didn’t read it. Then I decided to try it on audio. I ended up doing a combo of listening/reading which I was extremely happy with.

Princess Lila Barbot has been cast out by her fiancé for her parents crime against him. She’s been banished to a place where she has to actually dress up like a princess (Disneyland). It was honestly, quite actually hilarious. The her fiancé returns and tells her that she can return to her home and marry him if she goes to Hell (actual Hell) and finds out everything she can about the demon Abyssian “Sian” Infernas.

Sian has been cursed into a demonic monster form. No longer is he the handsome man he once was. When Lila arrives in his realm, he knows exactly who she is. She’s the woman who betrayed him, reincarnated. Although she has no memories of her former life, Sian remembers every horrible thing that she did to him and what he did in the name of “loving” her. He remembers her betrayal and has vowed vengeance for centuries. It doesn’t matter to him that Lila isn’t the same person, she’s close enough.

As Sian gets to know Lila, he realizes that she is nothing like his first love. She isn’t deceitful and above all, she’s actually kind. She’s also determined to get out of his captivity regardless the cost to her. It does take too long after that for Sian realizes that he doesn’t want to let Lila go because he actually loves her. He just has to make her love him. Then he finds out that she’s been hiding who she truly is and everything goes to hell. Literally. Still, Lila doesn’t let Sian get away with his fits of temper. That was one of the things that I loved about Lila. She stood up to Sian from the beginning. He could have easily overpowered her in every way, but she wouldn’t let him.

I have to share one of the passages that made me actually laugh out loud when I was reading it. This happened when Lila quite literally barred Sian from Hell and she sent him a note to let him know.

Demon,

Hell is now mine. You locked me in a dungeon; I locked you out of our godsdamned house. In the immortal words of a very wise mortal:

Everything you own in the box to the left.

Field advantage is key, and the joke’s on you.

Game, set, and match,
Calliope I, Queen of Sylvan and Pandemonia

P.S. If you or your allies make any move on Sylvan, I will retaliate against the Møriør tenfold. Do not test me.

The world building that Cole has done with this series is simply beyond comprehension. She doesn’t seem to break the rules of the world she’s created here. That seems almost unheard of these days when it comes to paranormal/fantasy/UF. If you haven’t tried this series and you’re a fan of paranormal romance, I highly suggest this series.

Every Thursday in 2018 we will be posting throwback reviews of our favorite and not-so-favorite books.

Conrad Wroth despises his brothers for turning him into a vampire. Years before he turned, he was a member of a highly secret society whose duty it was to destroy the vampire. Conrad was taught that a vampire was nothing more than an evil that needed to be destroyed. So when he found himself one of the very creatures that he hunted, he was beyond angry. After being turned, he tried to ignore his need for blood, but it soon became too much and he found himself as one of the Fallen. A vampire who has killed while taking directly from the vein. A vampire that who has succumed to a madness in which there is no returning.

Conrad’s brothers, all vampires, refuse to give up on their brother. Having their own reasons for believing that it’s possible to save Conrad, they imprison him in an abandon manor, having no clue that a ghost is also in residence. When Conrad first sees Néomi, he’s convinced that it’s nothing more than the madness that has created the ghostly aberation. What he finds confusing is that the rage that is so much a part of him seems to dim when Néomi is with him.

Néomi Laress died in one of the worst ways a person can imagine. For 80 years, she has been bound to her home, the place where she died. Having no idea why she hasn’t “moved on”, Néomi finds her happiness where she can. Usually it is with the tenants that move into her home. Though they never know she’s there, she takes joy in their lives. When Conrad is brought into the manor, she is estatic that there is someone that can finally see and hear her.

I really enjoyed the love story between Conrad and Néomi. I think what made it even more poignant is that, for over half the book, the two couldn’t even touch. They fell in love with each other before they were even able to have physical contact. Néomi was exactly the sort of woman Conrad needed. Even after 80 years as a ghost, she was still able to find joy in the smallest things. For someone that felt only rage for 300 years, it was a powerful thing. Néomi helped Conrad overcome the rage that is so much a part of them. With every day that passes, Conrad is more and more certain that Néomi is his Bride. The one woman that can made his heart beat. All he has to do is escape the manor in which his brothers imprisoned him in and find a way to made Néomi sentient. Piece of cake, right?

I don’t want to give away too much, so I’ll leave it at that. Needless to say, the author throws enough twists and turns in to keep the reader guessing. Fans of this series will be more that satisfied with Dark Needs. There are several characters that we get to revisit, which makes the book even better. There’s also a highly amusing scene between Myst and Kaderin that made me laugh out loud. You gotta love those Valkyries.

*****As part of our 10 year anniversary celebration, we’ll be re-posting old reviews and posts that make us cringe, laugh or sigh all over again.

This review was originally posted on June 4, 2007.

So I took a break from the Crazy series because I left the next book at home and I had this one with me so I started reading it and man, I’ve got to publicly thank Lori for pimping this book to me a couple of weeks ago, because man did I devour this book on Saturday. This is the first book in the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole.

The book is about the Lykae King who was captured and held captive by these mean bad ass vampires and tortured like you can’t even imagine and his never-ending quest to find his true mate. He’s searched high and low for this woman for the last roughly like 1100 years, to no avail until one day, he’s in chains and he scents her, above him and the guy goes a little crazy. He breaks his chains and rushes to find her, only to find out that his mate, his beloved mate is one of the things he detests most in this world…a vampire.

So you can only imagine how pissed off he was. I mean, he’s caught and held captive and then tortured within an inch of his life and then the one thing that gets him out of this mess, his mate turns out to be one of …them.

It’s been hundreds of years that he’s searched for her and he’s not going to let one little thing like her being a vampire stand in the way of him and his mate. Although he’s pissed to high heaven about this turn of events, he still kidnaps Emma and forces her to his will. He’s consumed with hatred for vampires and everything they’ve done to him and his family. He vows to never let her go back to her family and even though he hates everything she turned out to be, timid, shy and well, vampire …he still catches himself before actually hurting her because, there’s something about her…

He askes her to drive him to his family home, where he can finally get back to his own people and on the way, he softens toward her like it was no thang, by the time they’re home, she becomes so much more than just his mate. So now, he’s got to convince her to stay with him because she loves him and not because she’s too scared to leave. He’s got to convince her to stay before her Aunts come calling on them for a war, since he refuses to give her up.

Tempers flair and people change, but will it be enough for this Lykae King to finally be at peace with the mate he’s searched his whole life for?

You bet your bottom dollar it is, this is romance of course. =)

Man, this book was really good. I liked the passion with which Lachlain did everything. He never did anything by half measure, if he hated your guts, he hated you with everything that he was and made no move to hide his displeasure or hatred. If he loved you, he did all he could to keep you around and went to any lengths to make you see things his way. He was very demanding at the same time he was very patient. He was a man of his word and he was not to be taken lightly…ever. Lachlain was passionate and just so hot damn hot even with his regenerating leg, he was yum yum yum…even when he was being an ass. He did a lot of stupid things that I hated in the beginning but as he got to know Emma and care for her, I started to forgive him for all his wrongdoings in the beginning of the book.

Emma learned that Lachlain was a man who wasn’t above lying, cheating and using whatever was at his disposal to get what he wants and though she softened toward him at the end, he still had a lot to prove to her and I was so happy that she grew a pair to finally tell him where to shove his crap. I loved that each time she drank from him, she got so strong and she would smack the shit out of him and be all like, “Thats for pissing me off” and whatever else she would say, I loved it!

I loved how she stood up for herself and did the one thing that would unite her with the people she knows and loves. I loved that she took it upon herself to do that thing and it endeared her to me greatly.

The world that Kresley Cole created with all these demons and vampires, Lykae and Valkyrie intrigued me right from the very beginning, I couldn’t help but be pulled into the world with each word that I read in the beginning, I felt Lachlain’s hatred and I felt his haunted past trying to ruin everything he had with Emma and I love love loved how he fought to keep Emma by his side, regardless of who and what she was.

It was a true romance in every sense of the word and I just ate it all up. There were things in the beginning that I didn’t really care for but other than the way Lachlain and Emma meet and the way he treated her in the beginning, I really enjoyed this story. It was smooth reading and Kresley Cole’s voice in this story makes me look forward to more from her, this was a definite delight!

Read it!
