Her cousin had warned her about the Irish charm and Cara had been foolish to ignore her. In Ireland to be Maid of Honor in Kate's wedding, Cara hasn't a clue that the handsome Irishman seated next to her on the plane is the infamous brother of her cousin's fiance. And William O'Reilly doesn't plan on telling her either. Silver-tongued and devilishly handsome, William has Cara fighting a fierce attraction that threats to eliminate her prejudice towards him. Should she give him a chance or heed her cousin's warning? The same lovable characters from What Happens in Ireland come together once again in the fresh and humorous sequel, Deceive Me in Ireland. Like Kate Barrow, her cousin Cara discovers that resisting the charms of an Irishman isn't as easy as it seems. As wicked as his brother, William's determined to make Cara realize his worth. And her own.

Tracy’s review of Deceive Me in Ireland (Irish Hearts series #2) by Whitney K-E

Cara Barrow is on her way to Ireland for the wedding of her cousin Kate and her fiancée Jack. She’s upgraded to business class as a last minute gift from her cousin and happens to sit next to a hunky Irishman by the name of Patrick. The pair completely hit it off and he even manages to take Cara’s mind off the fact that she loathes flying.

When Cara meets her cousin Kate in the airport she’s so excited but soon becomes very angry when Kate see “Patrick” and introduces her to Cara as William, Jack’s brother. William acts like he has no idea who she is and this makes Cara even madder. As much as she likes the guy she has a hard time believing anything that comes out of his mouth after that. She hates being lied to. William, however, is chock full of his Irish charm and soon has Cara eating out of his hand. The day of the wedding William and Cara end up in bed and that begins a two week romance that both of them love.

All good things must come to an end and eventually Cara has to go back to Melbourne. She knows that Will has property outside of Melbourne and Will mentions that they should get together if he’s in town – just as friends. Cara is hurt but knows it’s for the best. Of course a month later when Will shows up on her doorstep and they try the whole “just as friends” thing it doesn’t work out. They end up getting as close as two people can be and falling in love. They’re both incredibly happy until Cara’s friend Jane (who seems to be a bit of a Debbie downer throughout the book) makes her face reality and realize that sooner or later Will will head back to Ireland and then where will the relationship be? Cara’s not one to get her heart trampled on so she decides to make the decisions for both of them herself – not necessarily a good plan.

I have to say that I really enjoy reading K-E’s books. They are fun and pretty light on the whole. The romances are sweet and the men are wonderfully nice.

In this novel I really liked Will and Cara together for the most part. I think that Will was smart in not overanalyzing the relationship and because he let things flow he could let himself fall in love without it being something he felt he had to avoid. Cara on the other hand was a huge worry wart. She was like this from the minute the book started but by the end of the novel it got to be a bit frustrating. She had come out of her shell and was becoming the confident woman we all knew was under her skin. The last 40 pages frustrated the hell outta me as she took matters into her own hands and pushed Will away without giving him a chance to even say anything. Yes there was an HEA but it was a bit abrupt and I would have liked to have seen at least a few more pages dedicated to the resolution of their issues. We’re led to think that in the end all you have to do is say I love you to each other and all will be will in your life. Hmmm – not realistic. Ok, it’s a fiction, but still. lol

Overall it was a good story, and one I enjoyed reading.

Have you ever wondered what happens in Ireland?

When Australian, Kate Barrow, meets a handsome Irishman in a Dublin bar, she has no idea that he is about to turn her world upside-down and inside-out.

In Ireland to take on a position on a thoroughbred stud, Kate is shocked when her manager-in-co reveals himself to be the same man she'd met in Dublin.

Jack is drawn to Kate. The problem is, she won't have him. But Jack has always loved a challenge and the intriguing woman from Oz is one he cannot resist.

Harbouring the sting of another man's betrayal, Kate is certain she wants nothing to do with love and nothing to do with Jack O'Reilly. But when naked torsos, Mother Nature and dysfunctional umbrellas start plotting against her resolve, she realizes the charms of an Irishman are going to be hard to resist.

Tracy’s review of What Happens in Ireland by Whitney K-E

Kate is an Australian who is has taken a job in Ireland. The first night she’s in the country she’s in a pub in Dublin soaking up the atmosphere. She meets a charming Irishman who ends up kissing her at the end of the night. Thrilled though she is to be kissed she plans on never seeing the man again.

The next day she meets her new boss at the stables she’ll be working at and lo and behold who is her boss, the man she kissed! Jack is the son of the owners of the stud farm and he is gorgeous and charming. Kate does everything in her power to push Jack away but he’s darned persistent in his pursuit of Kate. Kate was hurt four years before (at the tender age of 18) and she trusts no man. Kate pushes Jack away at every turn and uses jibes and sarcasm to protect herself. Unfortunately this only last so long and soon Kate finds herself in bed with Jack. Even more unfortunate is that while Jack is completely smitten Kate still allows the past to run her life and she almost misses out on an awesome relationship.

This is a debut novel by Australian Whitney K-E. It was well done and I enjoyed the writing a whole lot. That being said I did have a couple of issues with the book, mostly with Kate.

Kate was a dweller. She was constantly dwelling on the past and her relationship with Michael. We know he deceived her and broke her heart(as this was mentioned consistently throughout the book) but even after four years she still was so focused on Michael. I honestly wasn’t sure if she was ready for another relationship and that bothered me. Jack was so wonderful – funny, fun, all around wonderful…he was really the whole package and I sometimes felt that Kate really wasn’t the woman for him.

Despite those few issues I thought the book was charming. Though I felt it got somewhat slow in the middle it picked up again and gave me the HEA I was looking for. This was a delightful book and I’m looking forward to reading book 2, Deceive Me in Ireland.
