What Are You Reading? (662)

October hasn’t been a kind reading month to me. I’ve DNFed two books already. Hemy (Walk of Shame #2) by Victoria Ashley and Wolf Marked (Magic Side: Wolf Bound #1) by Veronica Douglas. I finally read Rogue Darkness (Immortal Guardians #12) by Dianne Duvall and really enjoyed it. I’m currently reading Don’t Forget Me Tomorrow (Time River #2) by A.L. Jackson. It’s standard Jackson fare, so it’s really angsty. I think I’m going to take a break and reread A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark #1) by Kresley Cole.

I’m listening to Things We Left Behind (Knockemout #3) by Lucy Score. I’m not too far into it, but so far, so good.

I had a slow reading week due to work commitments. I read Ascending by Meg Pechenick, a new-to-me author. It reminded me somewhat of Stray by Andrea K. Host, though I think this one was done better. That was the only book I managed to finish this week, though I did read a ton of samples. I also listened to Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison, a personal favorite. For all of my re-reads, this is the first time I listened to the audiobook. I enjoyed it and I am considering whether I’ll continue the series on audio or move onto something else.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I’m about two-thirds of the way through Alexis Hall’s TEN THINGS THAT NEVER HAPPENED, and it’s very good: lots of snarky humor and big feelings. I’m really enjoying it.

I read the two Pechenick books back in March 2023. My notes say that I enjoyed them, but I don’t recall them at all. (My husband had just been diagnosed with cancer, so I was likely distracted.) I might have to reread them, Holly, especially given that the first reminded you a bit of Stray.

    Over the past week ~

    — continued with my reread of Michelle Diener’s Class 5 science fiction romance series and have now happily revisited:
Dark Deeds (Class 5 Series Book 2)
Dark Minds (Class 5 Series Book 3)
Dark Matters (Class 5 Series Book 4)
Dark Class (Class 5 Series Book 5)
Dark Ambitions: A Class 5 Novella (Class 5 Series)
    and Dark Class: Bonus Epilogue
    — For my book group, the memoir Broken Horses by Brandi Carlile. This was an intriguing read especially since I had no idea who Brandi Carlile was when I started the book. I borrowed several CDs from the library to get a taste of her music.
    — I’m planning on making a bookmark for a friend and ended up getting sucked into rereading the book ~ Naked in Death (In Death, Book 1) by J.D. Robb. This is a book I probably read about twenty-five times over the years. I read it when it was first published in 1995 and then would reread the entire series each time a new book or two was released. I stopped reading the series (now at fifty-seven) in 2011 at book 32, Treachery in Death. I still collect the books and have great plans of returning to the series. We shall see!
