Books to Binge On

Our Books to Binge On feature is pretty simple in its purpose. Every month, we put together a monthly new releases list of books that we’re all looking forward to. These are the books that we can’t wait to read and want everyone to add to their monthly binge-reading lists. Here are the books that we plan to binge on in March of 2022.

The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James

A true crime blogger gets more than she bargained for while interviewing the woman acquitted of two cold case slayings in this chilling new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Sun Down Motel.

In 1977, Claire Lake, Oregon, was shaken by the Lady Killer Murders: Two men, seemingly randomly, were murdered with the same gun, with strange notes left behind. Beth Greer was the perfect suspect–a rich, eccentric twenty-three-year-old woman, seen fleeing one of the crimes. But she was acquitted, and she retreated to the isolation of her mansion.

Oregon, 2017. Shea Collins is a receptionist, but by night, she runs a true crime website, the Book of Cold Cases–a passion fueled by the attempted abduction she escaped as a child. When she meets Beth by chance, Shea asks her for an interview. To Shea’s surprise, Beth says yes.

They meet regularly at Beth’s mansion, though Shea is never comfortable there. Items move when she’s not looking, and she could swear she’s seen a girl outside the window. The allure of learning the truth about the case from the smart, charming Beth is too much to resist, but even as they grow closer, Shea senses something isn’t right. Is she making friends with a manipulative murderer, or are there other dangers lurking in the darkness of the Greer house?

Holly: I’ve enjoyed the other novels I read by this author. I love the concept of a true crime blogger getting involved in a mystery.

Crowbones (The Others #8) by Anne Bishop

In this engrossing and gripping fantasy set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, an inn owner and her friends must find a killer-before it’s too late….

Crowbones will gitcha if you don’t watch out!

Deep in the territory controlled by the Others-shape-shifters, vampires, and even deadlier paranormal beings-Vicki DeVine has made a new life for herself running The Jumble, a rustic resort. When she decides to host a gathering of friends and guests for Trickster Night, at first everything is going well between the humans and the Others.

But then someone arrives dressed as Crowbones, the Crowgard bogeyman. When the impostor is killed along with a shape-shifting Crow, and the deaths are clearly connected, everyone fears that the real Crowbones may have come to The Jumble-and that could mean serious trouble.

To “encourage” humans to help them find some answers, the Elders and Elementals close all the roads, locking in suspects and victims alike. Now Vicki, human police chief Grimshaw, vampire lawyer Ilya Sanguinati, and the rest of their friends have to figure out who is manipulating events designed to pit humans against Others-and who may have put Vicki DeVine in the crosshairs of a powerful hunter–

Casee: I need to catch up on this series, but I’m always excited when a new installment comes out.

Holly: I didn’t love Lake Silence as much as the books set in the Lakeside Courtyard, but I still really enjoyed it. I’m excited to return to Vicki and her Crow friends.

Shenanigans (Brooklyn #6) by Sarina Bowen

What I meant to do in Vegas: Let my hair down for once and celebrate winning a medal at my first women’s hockey all-stars competition.

What I actually did: Got senior prom drunk and woke up married to Brooklyn’s star winger, the great Neil Drake.

He’s the heir to a billion dollars, and I barely survived my childhood. Our friendship is based strictly only on hockey, takeout food and smack talk.

And now holy matrimony. Although we both know it can’t last, especially once his evil family gets wind of our Vegas shenanigans…

Holly: I really love this series and I’m glad we’re getting a new book.

When He’s Sinful (The Olympus Pride #3) by Suzanne Wright

Aspen Montgomery was nine-years-old when she befriended Camden Priest—a boy with dead eyes and dark urges. Since that day, they’d been inseparable. She hadn’t expected to later develop a major crush on him. Or expected that the crush would fail to pass. Or ever thought that she’d grow to wish that she could one day claim him as her mate. It’s never going to happen. She knows that. To him, she’s a friend, nothing more. So it’s time to make some changes to establish some better boundaries. Which would be a hell of a lot easier if he didn’t fight her on it.

There is only one person in the world that Camden Priest gives a damn about—Aspen. She’s his best friend, his anchor, his conscience, the very reason he’s sane. There’s only secret he ever kept from her … he wants more than friendship. Knowing she doesn’t feel the same, he put a chokehold on his need for her. But when some asshole claims to be Aspen’s true mate and danger starts closing in on her, Camden’s control becomes precarious and platonic lines are crossed. He knows what he should do—leave it at a one-night stand to protect their friendship. He’s just not so sure he can.

Holly: I was really happy to see a new release in this series. I always know what to expect with Wright.

Rewriting the Stars (Bailey Brothers #6) by Claire Kingsley

Firefighter Levi Bailey is used to being alone. Not that he’s lonely. How could he be, with a band of unruly brothers, and their wives and growing families. Maybe he’s the odd man out. The one brother who isn’t destined to be with his soulmate.

Besides, he has her.

She’s his Juliet, the only woman in the world he can’t ever have. To an outsider, it probably seems crazy. But the Tilikum town feud is no joke—especially now—and Annika Haven is strictly forbidden.

Annika Haven never expected to be back in her hometown, let alone as a single mom with two jobs. Add in a pack of overprotective brothers, a brewing family crisis, and a gossipy, feuding town on the brink of chaos, and life gets complicated.

But at least she has him.

He’s her Romeo, a son of the enemy. He makes her smile on her worst days. Yet, despite his brooding sex appeal, the one thing she cannot do is fall for Levi Bailey. They’re just friends and that’s the way it has to stay.

But after months of secret texts and stolen glances, one soul-stealing kiss changes everything. And Levi Bailey is about to do the impossible.

Defy the feud.

Casee: You guys, I cannot WAIT for this book. I found out yesterday that it was out next week and I literally squeed, I was so excited.

Phantom Game (GhostWalkers #18) by Christine Feehan

Jonas “Smoke” Harper has watched his brothers find their perfect mates, never imagining he’d actually meet someone who complements every part of him — even the monster that lurks within. But his instant connection with Camellia goes far beyond wanting the intelligent, beautiful, and lethal woman in his bed. They are two parts of a whole, linked to each other and to a larger network that exists everywhere around them.

Camellia has lived on her own for a long time, relying on her unique psychic abilities to keep her safe. She knows that Jonas was literally made for her, and that makes their addictive connection more dangerous than a thousand enhanced super soldiers. Once the larger threat looming over them is dealt with she’s going to get far away as fast as she can. Life has taught her that the only one she can truly trust is herself.

Jonas can sense Camellia is going to run — and the hunter inside doesn’t want to let go. Not when he knows how good they’ll be together. So he’ll just have to use all of his considerable skills to convince her to stay…

Casee: I’m actually looking forward to this book. It’s the only series Feehan writes that I still enjoy.

I am definitely looking forward to Crowbones, and I’d happily read that new Sarina Bowen book.

I’m really looking forward to the rerelease of Serena Bell’s three Under One Roof books: DO OVER, HEAD OVER HEELS, and SLEEPOVER (March 1, 15, and 29, respectively). The blurbs say these have been “lightly edited” since their original release dates. I didn’t read them the first time around, so I’m eager to read them now.

DUET by Julie Kriss (March 3): a rock-star romance from one of Romancelandia’s most underrated writers. I can trust Kriss to bring something new to even the most worn-out trope.

PUSHING THE LIMITS by Riley Hart (March 8): m/m involving adult step-brothers, one of whom has been pining for the other for a long time.

REWRITING THE STARS by Claire Kingsley (March 10): the long-awaited final book in Kingsley’s Bailey Brothers series features a Romeo & Juliet theme between MCs from two rival families. I’m glad that Kingsley—whose husband died unexpectedly last year—has felt strong enough to finish this wonderful series.

BEDHEAD by Brooke Blaine (March 15): antagonists-to-lovers m/m featuring rival publishers. This begins Blaine’s new Hate to Love You series.

LAST RESORT by Amelia Wilde (March 22): third and final book in Wilde’s Collectors Trilogy about a reclusive art collector and the innocent young artist he has “collected.” The first two books were very dark, and I’m not expecting that to change for book three.

ROMEO by Sybil Bartel (March 22): the next in Bartel’s Alpha Elite series romantic-suspense books set in Florida and featuring beyond-gonzo alpha heroes.

RETURN OF THE OUTBACK BILLIONAIRE by Kelly Hunter (March 29): the latest HP from the always-reliable Hunter. This features an ex-con hero who took the fall for a crime he did not commit. Should be all kinds of angsty. Can’t wait!

PARTIES by C.M. Nascosta (March 30, postponed from February): in this sequel to GIRLS WEEKEND, three female elves have to decide if the orcs they met on a girls’ weekend are going to be long-term relationship material.

And finally, as much as I liked Tessa Bailey’s IT HAPPENED ONE SUMMER and Trish Doller’s FLOAT PLAN, paying $10.99 a piece for the ebooks of their follow-ups—HOOK, LINE, AND SINKER (March 1) and SUITE SPOT (March 8), respectively—is too rich for my blood. I’d like to read both of these books (the heroine in each is the sister of the previous book’s heroine), but unless my library has them, I won’t be reading them in March: I’ll be waiting for a sale.

Looking forward to the Anne Bishop and Sarina Bowen books. I didn’t know about the Claire Kingsley, thanks.
