It’s a new month so we’re back with a list of our Monthly Reads to share with each of you. This is where you’ll see what each of us has read and what our favorite books and our least favorite books of the month are. Check it out.

I only read five books in October. It just wasn’t my month.

Reckless Memories by Catherine Cowles | 4.25 out of 5
On Dublin Street by Samantha Young | 4 out of 5
Perfect Wreckage by Catherine Cowles | 4 out of 5
Show Me the Way (reread) (audio) | 4.5 out of 5
Wrecked Palace by Catherine Cowles | 4 out of 5

My favorite non-reread of the month was Reckless Memories by Catherine Cowles. It was my first book by this author and I highly enjoyed it.

I read 18 books in October, but most of them were re-reads. I’m in a weird slump. I want to read, but I have no idea what. Any good books I should check out?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (audio) (reread) | 5 out of 5
Saving Grace by Julie Garwood (audio) (reread) | 5 out of 5
The Secret (Highlands Lairds #1) by Julie Garwood (audio) (reread) | 5 out of 5
The Wedding (Lairds’ Fiancées #2) by Julie Garwood (audio) (reread) | 5 out of 5
Honor’s Splendour by Julie Garwood (audio) (reread) | 5 out of 5
Down London Road (On Dublin Street #2) by Samantha Young (reread) | 4.5 out of 5
Castle Hill (On Dublin Street #3.5) by Samantha Young (reread) | 4.25 out of 5
Fairytale Come Alive (Ghosts and Reincarnation #4) by Kristen Ashley (reread) | 4.25 out of 5
Good Boy (WAGS #1) by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy (audio) (reread) | 4.25 out of 5
Sustained (The Legal Briefs #2) by Emma Chase (audio) (reread) | 4.5 out of 5
Hot Asset (21 Wall Street #1) by Lauren Layne (audio) (reread) | 4 out of 5
Hard Sell (21 Wall Street #2) by Lauren Layne (audio) (reread) | 4 out of 5
A Heart of Blood and Ashes (A Gathering of Dragons #1) by Milla Vane (reread) | 4 out of 5
Red (Fractured Fairy Tales #1) by J.E. Taylor | 2 out of 5
American Princess: A Novel of First Daughter Alice Roosevelt by Stephanie Thornton (audio) | 4.25 out of 5
First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson #1) by Darynda Jones (audio) | 2.75 out of 5
A Ruin of Roses (Deliciously Dark Fairytales #1) by K.F. Breene | 3.75 out of 5
Getting Real (Getting Some #3) by Emma Chase (audio) | 4.25 out of 5

My favorite read of the month (not counting rereads) was Getting Real by Emma Chase. The whole series is great, but I especially loved this book. My least favorite was Red by J.E. Taylor. The writing was choppy and much of the story and actions of the characters didn’t make sense.

I read 34 books in October. Several of them were so good, they made my favorite reads of the year list. Interestingly, all of them are m/m romances with lots of angst & heartache: WRATH by Ella James; THE IMPOSSIBLE BOY & THE LOST BOY by Anna Martin; and OF SUNLIGHT AND STARDUST by Riley Hart & Christina Lee. (That last one was a beautifully-written, dual-timeline story, but was utterly heartbreaking in places.)

My least favorite read of the month was THE BRATVA’S HEIR by Jane Henry & Sophie Lark. I thought it would be right up my alley: I love a good dark mafia/mob romance and the set-up (prison therapist and her client, an inmate who is also a member of the Russian mob) was all kinds of transgressive catnip; but the story was blah and the heroine was utterly passive. Heroines in dark romances need to be strong and tough or the dynamic between h&h just turns into bullying. There was so much potential in THE BRATVA’S HEIR, but none of it was realized.

I’m almost finished doing a re-read of the Bridgerton series. I’m on the final book and I’ve enjoyed the series. I was a bit disappointed in The Duchess Hunt by Lorraine Heath. The premise was a good one, but it was missing something. The hero’s secret was unusual, but anticlimcatic.

One of my favorite October reads was Honeytrap by Aster Glenn Gray; it’s a male/male cold war era romance.

Least favorite would have been all the books I started and put aside!
