I am reading a couple of books. I’m reading Wolf by Jessica Gadziala. It is the third book in The Henchmen MC series. I’m really, really enjoying this series. It got off to a rocky start, but I am really digging it now. I’m also going to start reading The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave for book club.

Other than that, it’s been a slow reading month for me. I’m hoping to pick it up next week & over the holiday weekend.

This week I didn’t have a lot of time to read. I finished Heart of Fire by Bec McMaster, the start of a historical fantasy series. I really enjoyed it and I look forward to continuing. I also re-read Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley, Rock Addiction and Rock Courtship by Nalini Singh.

Rowena

This week has been a pretty busy one with family in town for sports. I did finish The Ones We’re Meant to Find by Joan He and I liked it. The ending was something else and I cried a lot while reading this one. I’m going to jump back into the Demon Slayer world and I left off at volume 10 so volume 11, here I come. After that, I’m not sure what I’m going to pick up. Probably something from my review pile. Yeah, I’m going to read To Sir, with Love by Lauren Layne.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

I’m reading Karla Sorenson’s FORBIDDEN—an extremely good slow-burn romance between a widowed MMA fighter and the woman who manages the gym he owns. It’s really good!

Next up, I have Serena Bell’s DRIVE ME WILDER, which features city-girl/country-guy, opposites-attract, and antagonists-to-lovers tropes in a story about a PR rep hired to help a family’s outdoor adventure business transition to a destination wedding venue—and the oldest son does not want this to happen.

I just finished FORBIDDEN and it went immediately onto my Favorite Reads of 2021. It’s probably the best slow-burn romance I’ve read: the reasons for the very gradual progression toward a relationship are firmly rooted in the personalities and experiences of the hero & heroine; and there are some amazingly sexy scenes, with lots of sexual tension but absolutely no sex in them—that’s the sign of a really good writer. Karla Sorenson was a new-to-me writer this year when I started her Ward Sisters series and she’s quickly become a favorite (her FAKED, which features the “wrong twin” trope, was another Best of 2021, even though it was published in 2020). I’ve highly recommended everything I’ve read by her so far.

    Since last time ~

    — the contemporary romance Italy Ever After by Leonie Mack; it started slow, but I enjoyed it.
    — The Feather Thief: Beauty, Obsession, and the Natural History Heist of the Century by Kirk Wallace Johnson was an informative and intriguing read. I enjoyed discussing it in my first in person book group discussion in over a year!
    — White Silence: An edge-of-your-seat supernatural thriller (Elizabeth Cage, Book 1) by Jodi Taylor was a gripping read, and I’ve just requested the second book in the series. Incidentally, this book is currently 99¢ for Kindle readers.
    — Death Sworn (Death Sworn series Book 1) by Leah Cypess was an enjoyable (perhaps not the right word for a book dealing with assassins) young adult fantasy. I’ve requested the sequel from the library.
    — Playing with Fire: A Magical Romantic Comedy (with a body count) by R.J. Blain; this was a rather over the top silly and fun fantasy romance read.
    — read 140 pages of Finders (Firstborn, Lastborn Book 1) by Melissa Scott. I was enjoying it initially and then my interest waned.

I’m reading The Family Gathering by Robyn Carr. Love Robyn’s books, I always enjoy them.

  4. I forgot to mention that Heart of Fire by Bec McMaster is currently free for Kindle users if anyone is interested.
