WAYR-New

Casee: I’m reading Bengal’s Quest by Lora Leigh.  I haven’t read the Breed series in quite some time.  Holly actually gave me the hardcover of Rule Breaker about two years ago, but I couldn’t get into it.  I think I must have needed a break.  I read Rule Breaker (I really have a problem with that name) earlier this week and enjoyed it.  I’m really liking Bengal’s Quest a lot more.

I go in spurts with Lora Leigh.  Her Breed books tend to follow the same storyline.  The only book of hers that I really want to read is Cassie’s.  You would really have to be into the series to know who she is.  That’s the one that Lora Leigh is holding out on.  Even if I’m not reading the series when her book comes out, I’ll still read it.

Holly: I re-read Down London Road by Samantha Young and Ride Steady, The Gamble, For You and Own the Wind by Kristen Ashley this week. I blame Rowena for the KA re-reads..she was talking about OTW for her book club and it made me want to go through it again. It’s a slippery slope from there.

I also read Shadow Rider by Christine Feehan. It’s the start of a new series and I really liked it. It features an uber-alpha, but I kind of expect that from Feehan.

I think I’m going to go back and finish Ilona Andrews’ Edge series now. I’m starting book 3, Fate’s Edge, today.

Rowena: I’m reading again! Yay! This week, I finished Troublemaker by Linda Howard and really enjoyed it. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a Linda Howard as much as I did this one so I was one happy camper. Right now, I’m reading Good Girl by Lauren Layne and not much has happened yet but I’m hopeful that I will enjoy this one. Lauren Layne is a new auto-buy author for me and there hasn’t been a book by her that I haven’t enjoyed.

After this book, I will be reading 26 Kisses by Anna Michels before jumping back into the Psy/Changeling series.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

Books recently read here include the following; I enjoyed them all unless otherwise stated:

    — Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire; it looks like a young adult novel, but it isn’t. It’s a short book though and a quick read. It was an interesting story but not one that really spoke to me.
    — the graphic novel An Age Of License by Lucy Knisley.
    — Starflight by Melissa Landers which is a young adult novel.
    — A Gentleman’s Position (Society of Gentlemen) by K. J. Charles. This is the third book in an enjoyable historical romance series. Each book features two male leads; I recommend starting with the first book in the series.
    — a re-read of Peanut Goes to School: A Short Story of the Elder Races by Thea Harrison as well as her novella collections Divine Tarot (Elder Races) and Destiny’s Tarot (Elder Races)
    — Several books about which I’d heard good things but that didn’t really speak to me: C791 (Cyborgs: More Than Machines) by Eve Langlais; Dangerous Curves by Marysol James; You Don’t Know Me: A New Adult Romance by Faleena Hopkins; and Ruth’s Bonded (Ruth & Gron Book 1) by V.C. Lancaster
    — the contemporary romance Dirty: A Dive Bar Novel by Kylie Scott
    — A Solitary Man by Shira Anthony and Aisling Mancy. I enjoyed it — hmm, enjoyed seems the wrong word given the content dealt with trafficking of children for sexual purposes; I’ll say instead that I found it a rather gripping book, and it’s one I’ll likely re-read at some later date. I’d describe it as a suspense novel first and a romance second with two male leads.
    — Anne Bishop’s Queen of the Darkness (Black Jewels, Book 3); this is definitely a series that must be read in order. It was an engrossing read, but I still far prefer the author’s more recent Novel of the Others series.
    — for my sister’s book group which I’ll be attending: The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry: A Novel by Gabrielle Zevin; I recommend it.
    — Carolina Dreaming: A Dare Island Novel by Virginia Kantra. It’s the fifth book in a series, but it stands alone well.

Overall, I enjoyed it and there were certainly some parts that made me laugh aloud. Some of her heroes (Mal comes to mind) can seem very young; the hero of Dirty seemed far more adult in comparison. I’ll look forward to reading more in this new series.
