What I Read Last Week

Life has finally calmed down. Yay! This is a good thing. I’ve started planning a vacation for next month and I’m excited about that. Hopefully I’ll have time to just crash a time or two and get some solid reading hours in. 🙂

Congrats to Yvonne A. who won Parts I & II of The Kraken King by Meljean Brook.

So – On to what I read last week:

I started off the week with Devil’s Game by Joanna Wylde. This is book 3 in the Reapers MC series and it was a good one. I’ll post my review tomorrow.

Next was Straight Shooter by Heidi Belleau. This is a GFY story of a guy who gets off on guys calling him gay. He enters into a relationship with a guy in order to “get it out of his system.” Yeah, that never works, does it. 🙂 I’ll post my review of this one this week.

Poplar Place by Ellen Butler is the story of a woman who buys a house who has a tenant living on the 3rd floor and a past that comes back to haunt her. She used to be an Assistant DA and one of her cases – the one that made her leave the DA’s office – comes back front and center in her life. She finally meets the recluse tenant on the 3rd floor and falls in love. The story is about Cara’s journey back in to life after killing herself with guilt. It takes her tenant, Daniel, to help her through. Daniel is an empath when he touches people but he also has some other funky twists to his ability that we never find out about. It was a good story but kind of strange. 3.5 out of 5 (read for Book Binge)

Date Night by RC Matthews was next and is about a young woman, Jordan, who has graduated from college and is being set up on blind dates by her grandmother aka Grannie. Grannie is dying and wishes to be at her Jordan’s wedding so she’s planning it for 2 months away…with no fiancé. Grannie asks family friend JT, who works at a local restaurant, to watch over Jordan while she’s on her dates. The dates are funny as the guys are a mess but soon Jordan and JT figure out that they’re the ones that are meant to be together. I did have some issues with this one but it was a cute story. 3.5 out of 5

Roc Solid by Audra Carusso tells the story of Roc who runs an animal rescue association. Roc has been after one man for years who runs a dog fighting business. When Roc manages to infiltrate the premises where he believes that there is dog fighting going on he ends up finding Avery in a dog cage. He rescues her but with nowhere to go Roc ends up with Avery in his home and soon in his bed. But the man who had her caged isn’t giving up on getting his property back. The story was a good one though the MC’s did fall in love quite quickly. The whole premise of it all worked for me and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. 4 out of 5

Last for the week was a book called Lash by Sam Crescent. The book revolved around The Skulls MC and focused on Angel who was basically taken from her home as interest on the payments that her father owed the club. Lash has had his eye on Angel for a while – even before she came to the club (that wasn’t really explained) and now Lash is making his move. He is bossy and domineering but Angel likes it and soon is falling in love. Angel could be kind of a doormat and that was annoying. There was lots and lots of sex so I’d definitely put this into the erotic romance section. 3 out of 5
