A born flirt and good-time party girl, Emerson has never had a problem finding a willing guy. She’s always chosen her hook-ups carefully, and she's never broken her three cardinal rules:

Never let them see the real you.
Never fall in love.
Always leave them begging for more.

Then comes Shaw. A hotty from the wrong side of the tracks, he’s immune to her flirtatious banter and come-hither smile. After rescuing her from a disastrous night at a biker bar, he doesn’t even try to take her to bed—he calls her a tease and sends her home instead. Unable to resist a challenge, or forget the sexy dark-eyed bad-boy biker, she vows to bring him to his knees.

But instead of making Shaw beg, she finds herself craving him. For the first time in her life, she’s throwing out her rulebook. Suddenly, she’s the one panting for a guy she can’t control. A guy who won’t settle for anything less than the real Emerson, who forces her to do things she’s never imagined, including facing a past she thought she'd buried.
A guy who just might leave her wanting more . . .

Emerson is the “almost” love-em-and-leave-em type. She doesn’t actually get to the lovin part but she has reputation that says she does. She’s got the leave em part down pat. She wants it that way. She wants to be seen as wild and free and let everyone see the carefree person she…isn’t. Inside Emerson is an empty shell. She loves her friends but even they don’t know the truth about her past and how it’s shaped who she is and how she treats relationships.

One night she goes out with a girl she knows, Annie, only because she doesn’t want to stay home. Annie takes her to some biker bar and since Annie really isn’t the “protective of friends” type Emerson is more or less left on her own. She does see one hottie that turns her head but she only goes for guys that she can control and she knows from just looking at hot biker boy that she would never be able to control him. When a bar fight breaks out Annie leaves Emerson stranded and hot bike boy, Shaw, steps in and offers her a ride home.

Emerson wakes up in Shaw’s house with no remembrance of what happened. To say she’s a bit gruff with Shaw is an understatement but the pair find that they like their banter. Shaw is determined to pursue Emerson as he really likes her but Emerson, as much as she likes him, pushes him away. Between her mother, stepbrother, Shaw and her friends Emerson soon clearly sees how she’s lived her life and she doesn’t want to live that way any longer. She’s not sure, however, if she’s pushed Shaw away one too many times.

I downloaded the first 6 chapters of this book for free from Amazon but by the time I got to the end of those chapters I was more than anxious to read the rest and quickly purchased the whole book. I have to say it was more than I expected and that was a good thing!

Emerson was an intelligent and thoughtful person but the events of her childhood haunted her and made her so confused and scared that she pushed everyone away. It became very lonely for her. When Shaw came along it was hard for him to resist him and she couldn’t do it for very long. Shaw was everything a girl could want in a man and he wasn’t giving up on Emerson. I loved that about him. Together they were a great couple and I really enjoyed reading their story.

I hadn’t read the first book in this series, Foreplay, but will soon be doing that as I would love to see what happened with Emerson’s friends Pepper and Reece. If you’re thinking of reading this one but you’re not sure then you should definitely go for it. It’s a great read and one I recommend.
