Blue by You
Rowena’s review of Blue by You by Rachel Gibson.

Hero: Kasper Pennington
Heroine: Blue Butler

Rachel Gibson, the New York Times bestselling author of Crazy On You and Rescue Me, once again shows that there’s nothing quite like a man in uniform!

They say you never forget your first time, but there’s nothing Blue Butler and Kasper Pennington would rather forget than their brief but fiery teenage love affair. Yeah, it was hot while it lasted, but then he went off to join the Marines, leaving Blue in New Orleans. She’s tried to block him from her mind for good, but nothing can really erase the feeling she had when she was with him.

And now he’s got the nerve to return—leaner, meaner, and strong enough to pull her into his arms and kiss her senseless. Blue’s a successful businesswoman now, with no time to figure out what went wrong all those years ago. But Kasper knows she’s the one woman for him … and now he’s got to prove it to her all over again.

This was a short story that was cute and fun and just right for what I was in the mood for. Kasper Pennington and Blue Butler have history and it’s an embarrassing history that Blue would like to keep in the past but when Kasper comes storming back into her life, she falls right back into lust with him and even though she’s older and supposedly wiser, this is a romance novel so of course her and Kasper hook back up again!

Kasper is back at home after being gone for years and he’s fixing up his ancestral home in New Orleans.  He left home a long time ago, as a young man who had dreams to pursue and plans to make happen.  He couldn’t stay back and be the man that Blue wanted him to be so after one of the most memorable days of his life, he packs up and ships out to the military.  Leaving a heart broken Blue behind.  Now that he’s back in town and has Blue in his sight, he won’t stop until she’s his again.

I thought this was a sweet romance.  Kasper and Blue met when they younger and their families hate each other so they were raised to hate each other as well.  She thinks he’s a common jerk and he thinks she’s a snobby princess.  When sparks fly and they get within spitting distance of each other, fireworks go off and they’re both helpless to stop it.  When things don’t happen the way that Blue thought they would, she’s hurt but eventually, she moves on.  As does Kasper.  I enjoyed the history between the main couple and thought Gibson did a great job of telling their story.

It didn’t read as a short story, even though it was.  After I finished the book, I felt completely satisfied with what I got.  It wasn’t my favorite but it was still enjoyable.

Grade: 3.5 out of 5
