Lawe had known since he rescued Diane from capture and certain death that she was his mate. But he hasn’t claimed her and he’s really not sure that he’s going to. Until her life is in danger and he’s goaded by his twin brother, Rule, he really isn’t sure what he’ll do.
Diane is being followed by a breed who is out of control. He’s going after a certain set of people and he’s killing anyone who gets in his way. He’s also going after those with information, namely the technicians that worked in the labs that he was housed in, on the 3 people he seeks. Gideon is seen as a phycho breed and those in power – namely Jonas and Callan – really want him brought in or brought down before he makes more trouble for the Breeds than they already have.
Diane is aware of her status with Lawe but fights it. Lawe is known for coddling his lovers and protecting them from everything, including life…and those women weren’t even his mate! She is a warrior and won’t stand for being treated like a favored pet by Lawe – or anyone for that matter. Lawe can’t see her point of view. To him mates are to be pampered and protected. Diane and Lawe are at an impasse. Though Lawe claims his mate he may lose her forever if he can’t come to terms with who and what she is.
This is another in the Breed series. I really liked this book for a lot of reasons but then others not so much.
I’ll start with what I disliked first:
Number one issue for me was the antagonism that is ALWAYS between Leigh’s mates. There’s always some sort of issue with the couple that keeps them at sixes and sevens and after a while it just gets old. Now in this one it was a totally viable reason but honestly I just didn’t think that Lawe would have been that stupid about it for that long. I guess one of these days I’d love to see the breed and his mate meet and fall in love and then have to deal with stuff. Think it’ll happen? I have no idea either!
Number two was Rule. What the hell? He was not the character in this book that we have gotten throughout the series. He was kind of sad and pathetic with his brother – offering to claim his mate for him. I think if Rule had been offering to take over only to push Lawe into doing what he should have been doing in the first place I would have seen it differently but frankly it was just a bit creepy and weird the way it was done. I personally didn’t like the fact that Leigh went there.
On the likes:
I really liked the overall story arc that we’ve been reading about in the last few books (though I really wish we would learn more in each book – I think we’ve been dragged along enough) with regard to Jonas’s stepdaughter, Amber, and what exactly she was injected with and how it will effect her. Diane is all about finding out no matter what and I really loved the devotion that she showed to her niece.
We were introduced to some new characters that I can only assume we’ll read about in further books – one being Honor Robertson who is one of the three that the serial killer is looking for. Since the next book is Stygian’s Honor I’m gonna take a leap and say that she’s the heroine of the next book. Obviously someone finds her. Lol
Overall it was a great story that I enjoyed. If you’ve stuck with the Breed’s this long I think you’ll think it’s worth the read.

I just went to buy the kindle edition and there were two one star reviews. So I’m glad you gave it four stars. Your dislikes are what I imagine I will dislike.
I’ve neverstood why the males are so anti-mate. It’s annoying.
Casee – As I said the overall story arc was great. The couple got annoying at times but I find that with every book in the Breed series. lol Hope you like it.
