Genres: Paranormal Romance

Main Character: Suze
Love Interest: ??
Series: Mediator Series, Book 1
Author: Website|Facebook|Twitter|Goodreads

Suze is a mediator — a liaison between the living and the dead. In other words, she sees dead people. And they won’t leave her alone until she helps them resolve their unfinished business with the living. But Jesse, the hot ghost haunting her bedroom, doesn’t seem to need her help. Which is a relief, because Suze has just moved to sunny California and plans to start fresh, with trips to the mall instead of the cemetery, and surfing instead of spectral visitations.

But the very first day at her new school, Suze realizes it’s not that easy. There’s a ghost with revenge on her mind … and Suze happens to be in the way.

It’s been a while since I’ve read this series by Meg Cabot but doing a quick re-read of it over the long weekend made me remember why I love Meg Cabot and her writing. I was reading Insatiable by Meg Cabot and during those first two hundred pages, the book just wasn’t grabbing me. I put it down twice, browsed through my bookshelves and came across this book and picked it up. When I put it down, I was laughing.

This book is a delightful treat. It’s great for summer reading and it’s just fun.

There were a lot of things that I forgot about this book. The characters were all so charming that I ate all of it up. The story is about Suze, a young woman who can see dead people. After her father dies, her mom remarries some guy from Northern California and they move to live with him and his three sons. The three boys are affectionately (or not, haha) known as Sleepy, Dopey and Doc. When Suze and her Mom leave New York, Suze thinks she can get a fresh start on a totally different coast.

Suze isn’t like any normal high schooler because like the kid from The Sixth Sense, she can see dead people. Suze is a Mediator and she is sharing her new room with a guy named Jesse who over the course of the book becomes her friend and the boy she has a crush on. Watching Suze and Jesse together was too cute for words and I’m not at all ashamed to say that I’ve got a bit of a crush on Jesse myself.

So Suze’s job as a Mediator is to help the dead resolve all of their unresolved issues so that they can go toward the light. She’s like The Ghost Whisperer just not married and she doesn’t have an antique shop. I think my favorite parts of the book revolved around Suze and Jesse but I laughed out again when I read the part where Suze puts Debbie Mancuso in her place.

This book is a great start to a wonderfully entertaining series and it shows just how talented Meg Cabot is as a writer because the cast of characters in this series are all wonderfully refreshing and reading this book again was like reading it for the first time because I can’t remember much of anything like what’s up with Adam and CeeCee? What happened to Jesse? Or any of that stuff so maybe I’ll work in some re-reads of these books and review them all again on this blog.

If you haven’t read this series than you should fix that because this series is delightful and all around entertaining. You won’t be sorry to read these.

For all my Moms out there, I’d give this book a rating of:

..and that’s your scoop!
