Teryn Pilander lives in a world of secrets. She is a Shadow Corps operative for the Core Army in the Limit War, trained in espionage. Her latest mission takes her to the planet Viela, drawn by a communication that the local government captured a Dusk Warrior Officer for questioning. More interesting than the message, though, is the voice delivering it. A little shy, but deep and strong, the masculine voice sparks dormant fires in Teryn. She tells herself that once the mission is over, she might put her spy self away for a bit and live a little as a woman.

Drel Kol has secrets of his own. He is the one who sent the message drawing Teryn and her team to his planet. But he was just following orders and led her into a trap. Now, the woman he spoke with could be in grave danger. Her voice alone is enough to ignite a passion he has never known. Yet he’s only a technician. Can he fight against his own government and the Dusk to save her? And will the new bond between Teryn and Drel be torn apart when she learns his secret.
Teryn is drawn to and intrigued by the voice she hears coming over the communication from the planet Viela. She feels an odd feeling of connection and she wonders what the man will look like. When Teryn arrives on the planet she feels almost instantly that there is something wrong and she is very right. The Shadow Corps operatives were fooled into arriving on Viela and the politicians in the high government are actually working with the Dusk Warriors thinking that by working with them that they are saving their planet from getting involved in the Limit War. Silly government types – they’re just putting off the inevitable and playing right into the hands of the Dusk.
Drel knows immediately that he’s done something horrible and tries to remedy the situation by freeing Teryn. He takes her off to another part of the planet called the Wildlands while they hide and make plans to free Teryn’s comrades & notify Core of the situation so that they can send Dawn Soldiers. While they are together and running for their lives the strange bond they felt over the communicator grows and becomes deeper. They are determined to survive the Dusk so that they can explore their feelings further.
This second book in the Limit War series. While this book took us farther from Earth the war was no less powerful than what we read before. The intensity of the war is described in detail but it flows so nicely throughout the story. Teryn’s thoughts and life as well as Drel’s are interwoven and told intermittently during the book. We get to know our characters on different levels and I very much enjoyed the coming together of these two people.
The writing in the book seemed different to me than book one in that the sentences seemed to flow and were easier to read for me. I really liked seeing the growth in the writing and look forward to reading more about the Limit war.

  1. Tracy, thanks for the review. Renee mentioned this writer and that he writes scifi romance. I'm going to look him up. Still, I didn't realize this is a second book already! Did you review the first one?

  2. Yes, Nico is Zoe Archer's husband and an incredibly nice man to boot! lol This is his second book and his writing is definitely growing. I think he's one to watch for the future.
I did read the first one but didn't review it. 🙂
