Tracy’s review of Born to Bite (Argeneau Vampires #13) by Lynsay Sands

Legend has it that Armand Argeneau is a killer in the bedroom . . .

But with all three of his late wives meeting unfortunate and untimely ends, is this sexy immortal a lover or a murderer? That’s what Eshe d’Aureus intends to find out. As an enforcer, it’s her job to bring rogue vampires to justice, even if the rogue in question makes her blood race red hot.

Armand knew she was trouble the moment Eshe roared into town on her motorcycle, clad in tight black leather. She claims she’s hiding from dangerous fiends, though he suspects something more. But after three wives who’ve all had trouble remaining, well, undead, Armand is reluctant to open his heart again. Then strange accidents start to happen, each deadlier than the last, and Armand realizes he may not have much time to prove he’s a lover, not a slayer.

Eshe d’Aureus is sent to Armand’s farm under false pretenses. Lucian Argeneau, leader of the Argeneau family and Council member has placed Eshe at Armand’s to discover what happened in the death of his 3 wives and his daughter-in-law. You see, Armand’s oldest son Nicholas is being held on suspicion of murdering a human 50 years ago, but facts have come to light that whoever killed the human, killed Armand’s family members as well. However Armand thinks that there is a scary rogue vamp after Eshe and that she’s at his house for 3 weeks to hide and be protected.

Eshe and Armand soon find that they are life mates. Neither thought that it was something that would ever happen to them again as they each had previous life mates. Armand is not too thrilled though since everyone that he’s loved and has stayed in his vicinity has been killed. He wants to be with Eshe, but he fears for her safety. Eshe eventually comes clean about why she’s really at Armand’s and they, along with 2 other vamps, head out to find out who the killer is.

I gotta tell you that I really, really liked this book. I loved that Eshe and Armand were both vamps and didn’t have to go through the whole “I can’t have him/her because they’re human” etc. It was very refreshing to just have the two recognize the signs and go with the flow. Yes, Armand did put up a bit of a fight – a very small one – originally, but he soon caved to the pull of his life mate.

The mystery here really had me stymied, I gotta say. Ms. Sands knew how to make us believe that the killer was one person when it was another. She wove the mystery in a way that had me turning pages to see what happened next. There was also some lovely emotional moments at the end of the book with Armand that I got teary eyed over.

This is a great book with a wonderful mystery and romance blended. If you’ve been reading the Argeneau series this is not to be missed. If you haven’t then maybe you should start! 🙂
