GIVEAWAY: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Posted August 23, 2010 by Holly in Giveaways | 26 Comments

Thanks to Scholastic Books, we have 2 copies of Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, book 3) by Suzanne Collins to giveaway.

Mockingjay is the much anticipated conclusion to SC’s Hunger Games trilogy. My daughter has been salivating over this novel for MONTHS. She can’t wait for the release tomorrow. Rowena recently read the first two books and is dying for this one as well.

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she’s made it out of the bloody arena alive, she’s still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what’s worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss’s family, not her friends, not the people of District 12. Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Suzanne Collins’s groundbreaking The Hunger Games trilogy promises to be one of the most talked about books of the year.

Do you really want to win a copy of this book? If so, make us believe it! Tell us why you want this book (and be convincing) and we’ll throw your name in the hat. Contest ends one week from today, Monday August 30, 2010. I’ll select two winners from random and announce them Tuesday, August 31, 2010.

  1. I want this book because I love the crazy, gorgeous, devastated world Suzanne Collins created. And because I love Katniss and I want to watch her raise some hell in this third and final volume!

    Thanks for the awesome giveaway.

  2. Oh goody! Wonderful, wonderful contest!! Hmmm… *rubs hands together* I want this book because dystopia fiction is like my crack, my heroin – my.. well, you get the idea. I am a sucker for civilizations gone wrong and the strong folks who decide to stand up to the awful people in charge. Go Katniss!!

  3. I am a 50 y/o woman who until recently lived pretty much in a fantasy world. After borrowing the first 2 books in the series from my great niece/Goddaughter, Katniss has given me courage to take some major new steps in my life, and I’d like to see her completion.

  4. How can I not want this book. Oh my, the way the second one ended. I’ve been biting my nails to find out what happens next. Katniss has become one of my favorite all time characters for all that she has endured. It is a great series and I’ve been getting all my friends to read it.

  5. I want this book because I’m absolutely antsy for it’s release. All day long I’ve been unable to sit still and my heart starts racing whenever I see the words Mockingjay. I’ve made every single one of my friends read this series and I’d love to rub their noses in me being the first of our group to get the new book. Heh-heh!

    So pppplllleeeaaaasssseeee pick me!

  6. I have been dancing, hoping on one foot, both feet, wiggly, antsy, etc. just waiting to read this book. Oh please can I trade you my third born? (My first two are fantastic kids, the third can be a rascal) ( Ok just kidding) But please enter me…… please, wiggle, dance, hop hop.

I want this book because I keep hearing buzz about it, yet I’ve never met anyone who has actually read the series.

  8. I want to give this to my 14 yr old. He’s read the first two out of his library at school last year and this was one of the few books he’s asked me to buy for him. and i’ve got these reserved at the library and would like to have them all to read.

  9. The books just pull me into the story. Considering that I don’t like post-apocalyptic dystopic books, it says something about this series that I like the books.

Although Katniss is a good, solid main character, she’s a bit too obstinate at times. Still, I want to know what happens to her and especially to Peeta!

Team Peeta! (what can I say, I love the good boys and bad boys leave me cold)

  10. Why i want to read this book so much ? Because i remember the first person who recommended this to me, i mean to all her readers, was Stephenie Meyer !!

I got the first book on my mobile phone, that i could read it whenever i want to read it. The second book was a hardback copy that i won from a blog which i needed to compete with more than 60 people *grin*, and the third book, i just believe more than a thousand people (don’t you think i’m exaggerating ? )want to win this book, and i HAVE to compete with them too !!

oh, That’s why i want to get my lucky charm once again to win this book ! * fingers crossed*

My 13 y.o. son and I have been butting heads a lot lately, what with his unpredictable hormones and my not having quite gotten the groove of dealing with a brand new teen. On top of that, he’s an extremely reluctant reader, and all my efforts to encourage have the oppostie effect.

By coincidence he won a copy of Hunger Games at school – and holy cats, he read it in two days and immediately put himself on the waiting list at the library for book 2. AND NOW HE KEEPS TALKING TO ME ABOUT THE BOOKS AND HOW I SHOULD READ THEM. Will I? Are you kidding me? This series not only has my boy reading, and talking to me, but acted on my rec to open a Goodreads account and start writing reviews for his friends and age-mates.

So of course I’m desperate for Mockingjay. I could, of course, just buy one (like I did with Book 2 once I realized how much he liked it) but it would be SO MUCH COOLER in his eyes if I won it for him.

For the sake of intergenerational peace, I’m crossing all my fingers and toes!!

  12. I’d like to win this book-
1st because I am dying to read this book (but who isn’t).
2nd because I recently quite my job to stay home with my baby and cash flow is low.
3rd because I’m home with baby I’ve got a little time on my hands for reading wonderful books.
Thanks for the chance to win.

My book club read “Hunger Games” and I was pretty much thinking “ho hum” when the person who LOVED it picked it for the group.

And then I got it and read it and WOW.

So I had the second one from the library and just finished it. It was amazing, though I hate when they leave things in suspense at the end of a second part of a trilogy. Empire Strikes Back made me insane when I was a kid for just that reason.

So NOW, I NEED “Mockingjay”. NEED. Not even WANT – I have to have it. Oh please oh please, don’t make me wait for the library to cough it up. I’ll be forced to go out and buy it and the budget is tight and I want Katniss to beat the evil President Snow (because who smells like blood, really? Ewwwww.)

I’m Team Gale. No wait, maybe I’m Team Peeta.

No, I’m Team Katniss all the way.

  14. I want this book because I’ve never read anything by this author, but all my bookie friends seem to be talking about it this week!

  15. I want this book because this series puts Team Edward & Team Jacob to shame. No offense to any Twihards. 😉

Also, b/c I applaude Collins’ for bringing YA books to another level.

    Thank you!

  16. I’ve been really, really wanting to read this trilogy since the first book came out, but I’ve been waiting all this time for the third book so that I could read it straight through.

I must say that The Hunger Games and Catching Fire are two of the most fantastic stories I have ever read.
They moved me in ways that are hard to describe.
I love the characters and I like how their personalities shine through in everything they do.
It was a wonderful journey from The Hunger Games to Catching Fire and I’m sad to see it end in Mockingjay but at the same time it has to end at some point.
I can not wait to read Mockingjay and see what happens and I want to thank you for having this giveaway and for making it international.

  18. Eeeek I almost missed this! I am so used to that all Mockingjay are US only.

I am dying to read it to see what happens in this lovely scary dystopian world..oh and who she chooses. Go team, oh I can’t choose either, lol.

The world is great, and she makes me believe it. Truly the bes dystopian YA out there.

I would like to win this book because ever since my daughter was assigned to read the Hunger Games, she has loved this author. I have even enjoyed reading them too. She can’t wait to read the third in the trilogy.
