Publisher: Avon, Harper Collins

TITLE: Someday Soon
AUTHOR: Debbie Macomber

SUMMARY:

Opposite Attract
Cain had chosen his lifestyle. He thrived on the challenge. No drug, he told himself, could produce the physical or emotional high of a successfully completed mission. No drug and no woman.

Then why was he standing on a cold San Francisco pier like a lovelorn teenager, hoping for a glimpse of Linette Collins?

And then he saw her. For a moment it felt as if someone had hit him against the back of his head. He went stock-still.

She stood in line at a fish and chips place. The wind whipped her hair about her face and she lifted a finger to wrap a thick strand of dark hair behind her ear.

The smart thing to do was to turn around, and walk away as fast as his feet would carry him. He’d gotten what he wanted. One last look at her. His curiosity should be satisfied.
But even as his mind formulated the thought, Cain knew that just seeing Linette again wasn’t enough

THOUGHTS/OPINION:
Cain is a mercenary. He’s more than happy with his life and has no plans to change it. Then he meets Linette at a party and a connection is made.

It’s been 2 years since Linette’s husband died of Leukemia and she’s just coming out her grief. She’s not really ready to date but when she meets Cain she realizes that she needs him as much as he needs her. However, Linette believes that Cain in is the military.

Not long after meeting they are more than comfortable with each other and Cain asks Linette to spend Christmas with him at his ranch in Montana. Linette agrees and they have a great time being together cutting down a Christmas tree and having snowball fights among other things.

Unfortunately the time is cut short by Cain getting called in on a mission. He leaves Montana saying that Linette won’t be seeing him again. But Cain can’t seem to get Linette out of his mind and keeps coming back to San Francisco to see her.

Cain’s and Linette’s relationship in its early stages was kind of wonderfully heartbreaking. Cain needs to be with Linette, but she finds out he’s a mercenary and has a serious problem with it. She just doesn’t want to fall in love and have him die again. She just wouldn’t be able to handle it. Their relationship is on again off again for almost a year with many, many things going on in between.

This was a fun book to read. As much as I just wanted to throw the characters together to get them moving along in the story it was nice to see that they didn’t just meet and fall into bed together (in fact they don’t sleep together until much later in the book when they’ve known each other about a year). There are so many things going on this book, including a secondary story going on with Cain’s friend Tim Mallory and his physical therapist which was great.

Was the author new to you and would you read something by this author again?
I can’t recall ever having read a Macomber book before but I may have a long, long time ago. I just can’t remember! I’ll read more of her work.
