What I’ve Been Reading This Week

What a nutty week! With my little one’s b-day and then the hair/make-up party yesterday…and the camera breaking and me not getting anything but blurry pics on my cell phone…I need a nap! We were everywhere yesterday! Chuck E. Cheese (yes, I finally caved), Sweet and Sassy salon for the “Glitter Glam” party, the mall, the ice cream shop…I could go on and on! All this fun also meant that I didn’t read much – which was fine since I was having so much fun!

Flashpoint – Another great book in the Troubleshooters series by Suzanne Brockmann. Damn. It feels like I’ve been reading this series forevah! But it’s so good! I do have to say that although I really liked this story I think it’s the weakest link so far. I truly missed the WWII element that Brockmann had in her previous books and basically we only got a glimpse of Team Sixteen. A little taste of Cosmo (I’m sure in prep for the next book which is his) and just a flavor of the rest of the team, which they didn’t call by name. Tom Paoletti played a small part as well. As much as I liked the characters in this one I was disappointed to not hear more about the rest of the crew.

Magic and Mayhem by Cathryn Fox and Sylvia Day (RAW author) was a cute little novella. Spells, incantations, sex, hot neighbors (just like Shannon M’s)…good stuff.

Tangled Webs: A Black Jewels Novel by Anne Bishop was next. I enjoyed this one a lot. After reading the BJ Trilogy and then the Dreams Made Flesh anthology I was really looking forward to this book. It was nice to see the SaDiablo family again with Lucivar, Marian, Daemon (yum) and Jaenelle and of course Saetan and Surreal. The book started off and I kept thinking that it was all over the place…but it turned out that it all coalesced into a great story and there was a purpose to all the different places it was going at the beginning. Of course I was only about 60 or 70 pages in before I was hitting a touching moment and crying.

Hot Target – book 8 in Brockmann’s Troubleshooters was last on my list for this week. The book was great. I liked all of the many stories going on in the book. I didn’t think Cosmo and Jane’s story was quite as strong as many of the other relationships but I never doubted their love for each other at the end of the book.

Happy Reading!

  1. I love the troubleshooters series. I just finished Breaking Point which is Max and Gina’s story. All I can say is Oh. My. God. It was very good. I am trying to get caught up with this series. One of these days…

  2. Hi Tracy

So your daughter’s birthday is on the same day as mine. She must be a very well behaved little girl 🙂

I guess Bk 8 would ot be the place to start in the Troubleshooters series LOL If I were to start now I’ll probably never get caught up until 2012!

  3. I am trying to get through Pleasure Unbound but I rather read Your Scandalous Ways!
I still can’t get over ass hero trying to strangle heroine during sex book.

  4. Jill – I just got BP from the library and I can’t wait to read it. It was like the Alyssa/Sam storyline and it’s driving me nuts not knowing! lol

Wave – No, you certainly cannot start with Book 8! Bad girl! lol The first 6 are utterly fabulous and I highly recommend them. Book 7 was still very good…just not AS good as the previous IMO. Book 8 was very intense and good as well. Her dedication in book alone had me in tears – so touching.
Yes, my 6 year old IS a very well behaved child. You’re not saying you are, are you? 🙂

KB – I still can’t get over your blog a post about the strangling. NO THANK YOU! I’ve heard Pleasure Unbound is great!

  5. Book 8 was very intense and good as well. Her dedication in book alone had me in tears – so touching.

Me too! I was at the gym when I was reading it and I started to tear up. The person next to me must have thought I was a nutjob.

Jessewave, you mustn’t start in the middle. The books have continuing storylines. Believe me it is so worth it and you will be glad that there are so many books, because all them are fantastic! Here is a link to a post I did on the series. It lists the reading order of the books 🙂

  6. Hmmm… I hate to disagree with you but Cosmo was my first, and I fell so much in love with him and Janey that I went out and bought all the rest and have read them (and re-read them) all in about six weeks. The only ones I haven’t read are the first one and the Christmas one (both are on order) and the new one due out this month. 🙂

I think that the problem with Flashpoint, and it’s not really so much a problem, is that there needed to be a clear break (trying to say this delicately so as not to give anything away here) between the two major incidents in Tom’s life. Not having a lot of Team 16 show up in there seemed to me like a good way to make the transition.

  7. KB – I thought Hot Property was the one with the horrid scene. Is it PU? I’m confused.

See I’m just anal enough that I like to start at the beginning. It’s very rarely I make impulse buys but when I do and find out that there are books before it I get very frustrated! lol

Ruth – I agree that there had to be a break…but I thought it was actually too much. I understand the introducing of new characters, and I like those characters very much. But I had no idea who was working for TI and who wasn’t, etc. It was odd. I was actually surprised to see Cosmo doing freelance work since he’s still a SEAL. I’ll just have to read on and see what happens next! 🙂 And I’m looking forward to it.

  8. How funny that you’re finding Pleasure Unbound eh. Christine had given it an A so that’s why I’m surprised…don’t you two usually have the same taste in books?

  9. Tracy: PU has gotten a bit better than I last spoke. *G*, I would probably give it between a B- or B. My review should be posted by the weekend.

  10. Hi Tracy *BIG WAVES* wanted to stop by and see what you were reading and how things are.

Love Brockmann myself. Are you up to Into the Storm? I can never keep the books in order in my mind just too many…lol

Have you picked up Roxanne St.Claire’s Bullet Catcher series? Ohhh la la talk about DIK hero status.

I have to agree with Christine’s A for Pleasure Unbound. Great world she created with really interesting characters. It also helped that there was a great romance. Just bummed I have to wait until April for Shade’s book. I think Wraith’s book comes right after which is a relief because it’s his story I really want =)

Big Happy Birthday to your lil’ one…Oh to be 6 again!

  11. Hey Sam!! So good to see you. I miss you on MS!!
I haven’t gotten to Into the Storm yet – it’s 2 books away. I’m slowly making my way through the series. I haven’t read Roxanne St. Clair yet but she’ll be a guest at the DIK blog sometime before the end of the year so I need to read SOMETHING of hers!
Thanks for the b-day wishes for the lil one. She had a good day and a good week I think!

  12. Wow. So many more to add to the TBR pile! Actually The Black Jewels Trilogy is waiting for me in my bookshelf. I’ve been looking for the Suzanne Brockman books that Shannon recommended to start with. I’ve heard so much about her but haven’t read a single book yet. 😮

This week I read, if I can remember:
    PLEASURE UNBOUND by Larissa Ione
    TEMPTING DANGER by Eileen Wilks
WOLF AT THE DOOR by Christine Warren
THEN CAME YOU by Lisa Kleypas
INTO THE SHADOW by Christina Dodd
Read half way through DEMON KISS by Eve Silver
Started STOLEN by Kelly Armstrong (but I wasn’t in the mood at the time)

that’s about it. I intended to read the RITA finalists before the conference, but for some reason they just aren’t calling to me. Oh well.

  13. The Black Jewels Trilogy is just sooo stinking good – an absolute recommend!

Wow – you read some great books this week Ciara! I have a few of those in my tbr….will get to them eventually! 🙂

I know how you feel about the RITA books. I’ve been trying to do the same with the RAW authors and they’ve just not been calling me lately. I need to jump back on the horse! 🙂

  14. Oh Ciara – those Brockmann books are fab, fab, fab. Get them from your local library if you can’t find them elsewhere. Worth it!

  15. You know what I find hard to believe? that I haven’t commented yet HUH? well there you go a comment *g* actually I am swinging by the library tonight to pick up all the Brockman books in otherwords a stimulation overload. EVIL SARAI

  16. Oh you’ll just love them!!! I think the first two were fab but they REALLY get ultra fab starting with book 3. IMO.

  17. Sorry about the camera troubles. Especially right in time for your kid’s birthday. 🙁

How many troubleshooter books are there now? Like I need another series to catch up on… I know it is a favorite among my friends, though, so I’d be remiss if I didn’t hop on the bandwagon. ;p

Yay! Another A for Pleasure Unbound. Samantha… I’m with you! I’m looking forward to Shade’s story, but I’m dying for Wraith’s! I went back to reread something about him in the beginning of the book and ended up rereading the whole book! I don’t usually do that.

  18. I know – camera troubles suck! lol

I can’t believe you reread the entire book! That’s crazy. Although I did it with both Rhage & Z’s stories so I shouldn’t be too surprised! 🙂 I think PU will be sometime this week or next! 🙂
