Booking Through Thursday

…this week’s question is:

What’s the most desperate thing you’ve read because it was the only available reading material?

If it was longer than a cereal box or an advertisement, did it turn out to be worth your while?

Rowena Says:

The most desperate thing I’ve read? Hmmm, well I remember at one of Brenna’s doctor’s appointment, I forgot my book (I know, the shame!) and so I had to sit in there and read a brochure about penis’ and vagina’s and all that crap. It was so not the business but I do remember reading a book that I did NOT want to read, I think it was one of the Cynster books by Stephanie Laurens, there was absolutely nothing to read besides that book and I so didn’t want to read it but I did anyway and ended up loving it. Shocked the socks right off of me.

I guess, I answered the second part of my question already so NEXT….

Isabel’s Turn:

What’s the most desperate thing you’ve read because it was the only available reading material? There have been many a time I forgot to bring a book while waiting for the doctor. Sometimes they’ll have a decent read. However, once I get at the dealership get my car’s oil changed. All they had were some car magazines and Guns and Ammo. So that’s what I read.

If it was longer than a cereal box or an advertisement, did it turn out to be worth your while?

The car magazine had a lot of pictures of cool looking cards, so that one was. Guns and Ammo, no.

Does the back of a tampon box count? Am I the only person that gets bored in the bathroom and reads whatever’s handy? Like an air freshener can? You can learn some crazy stuff by reading those. Like, all about how it’s illegal to sniff them and such. Very entertaining.

Otherwise…..I guess reading about erectile dysfunction and vaginal discharge at my GYN’s office is about it.

Surprisingly, yes. I learned a lot from those pamphlet’s in the doctor’s office about men and women’s bodies and why things happen the way they do. But then, I’m the curious sort and like knowing things. 😛

  1. Ha! Holly, I’m one of those who will read air freshener cans and stuff when I get bored in the bathroom. Ha ha. I thought I was the only one who did that. I’ll pick up like, anything in the bathroom and just start reading it for the heck out it. LOL.

  2. That’s actually why I thought of the question, Holly – I was trapped at my cousin’s house without a book (I know, I know) and I was forced to read all the cleaning supply labels.

  3. Yep, that’s happened to me before. I’m more ashamed of the fact that I forgot my book than I am of the fact that I read cleaning supply labels. LOL

  4. Hi Rowena, thanks for visiting! OMG, that was bad, wasn’t it? LOL. And I always appreciate clinics which stock up their women’s mags at the waiting area. Ha.

    Happy BTT!

  5. I really don’t have anything to add except to say I HAD to read all the responses to see what you all said. I’ve been known to go buy the same book a second time when I forget my book. ONTOH I leave a book in my purse (usually a re-read) at all times. So it’s usually not the book I don’t have, it’s the purse.

  6. Yep, nothing like learning about Toxic Shock from the tampon insert. Scared myself stupid with that one but then that shouldn’t be a surprise.

    I’ve done everything mentioned.

I remember being caught just behind a major car accident on the highway (no off ramps) and we weren’t going anywhere. Luckily I remembered I had a book in the trunk (Bob cleans my car out every once in a while and books end up here) so I was all high and mighty cause I had something to read. Ugh. It was so bland and I didn’t care and yet I didn’t notice that all the traffic behind me had backed up (with police help) to the last off ramp. It wasn’t until the car beside me started to move that I noticed nothing was behind me. Duh!

  7. Forgot to mention we were there for 3 hours and I think I read 20 pages. I never picked the book up again and have blocked the name from my memory.

  8. Oh yeah, I’m right there with you on the stuff in the bathroom. Too funny. But some times you just HAVE to read, there’s like no choice.

Probably the most desperate I was to read had me pulling out the car guide manual out of the glove compartment. This was for my previous car but I found it kinda interesting – the things you can learn about your car, cuz I admit I usually don’t read them.

  9. Wow! I’m not the only one who’s read the owner’s manual to the car. 🙂 After that episode, I stuck a book on historical trivia (IOW, something that it wouldn’t matter if I put it down and didn’t read it again for a couple of months) in the cubby for those unanticipated waits.

And yes, I’ve read the labels of pretty much everything in my bathroom. 🙂
