Suze is used to trouble, but this time she's in deep: Ghostly Jesse has her heart, but Paul Slater, a real flesh—and—blood guy, is warm for her form. And mediator Paul knows how to send Jesse to the Great Beyond. For good.

Paul claims he won't do anything to Jesse as long as Suze will go out with him. Fearing she'll lose Jesse forever, Suze agrees. But even if Suze can get Jesse to admit his true feelings for her, what kind of future can she have with a guy who's already dead?

This book was a trip.

Paul Slater is so slimy and bad for Suze but I can’t help but like him, only because he’s a bad ass and all women like the bad asses! The other reason I thought that Paul was better suited for Suze (totally against my better judgement of course) is because he’s, well alive. The only other person that could capture Suze’s heart, is a dead guy who lives in her room named Jesse and as much as I loved Jesse, I didn’t see how they could have a future together with her growing older and Jesse staying 20 forever as a ghost.

If you think about it, Suze would never get to introduce her boyfriend to her parents, friends and loved ones. She would never go out on an official date because well, Jesse doesn’t eat and no one can see him, so while she’d be out on their “date” she’d be talking to herself and her family would probably check her into the nearest mental institution.

See her dillemma there?

With Paul, underneath all of the Billy Bad Ass techniques, he’s got a heart beating somewhere in there and he really likes Suze, so it would just go to show that he’d change for her, right? He was totally redeemable in this story, I mean, he got on my hot damn nerves with how persistent and how truly unlikeable and shady he could be but what great hero doesn’t need a total makeover in the character department before turning into the man we all know and love in the end? I had every faith that Meg Cabot could turn his character around…

…well atleast I hoped he would….

…in the beginning and middle of the book.

And then I came to my senses. Jesse is where my heart belonged and he was the man that I wanted Suze to somehow end up with. I didn’t care how Meg brought them together, I only knew that it was those two that I wanted standing in the end, riding off into the sunset together.

With all the crap that Jesse has pulled Suze out of and all of the feelings bottled up inside of Suze for Jesse, they totally deserve some kind of happy ending and I was so anxious to read it.

This book was fanfrickin’tastic!

There was more Brotherly love from the Akerman brothers toward Suze and I seriously loved reading the scene where Brad and Jake’s party totally crashed and burned. I loved seeing the fight between Suze’s “men” and the coming out of Jesse to her friends. I loved how CeeCee, who didn’t believe in ghosts and all of that crap that her Aunt is famous for, believed in Suze and was curious to find out all about “Jesse”.

I enjoyed the scenes with Father Dominic, Adam, Brad, Andy, Jake and even nerdy David. This series is filled to the brim with fabulous characters that reach right into your insides and squeeze your heart with loads of laughter and just all around good characteristics. This is an all star cast and I am totally in love with this little Mediator World that Meg Cabot has created.

Haunted is a great story and I had high hopes for Twilight.

Great, great book!

The Reading Order: I read and reviewed the other books in this series over at my old book blog, Sanctuary’s Finest, but here are the links to the other reviews I did for this series.

Book 1: Shadowland
Book 2: Ninth Key
Book 3: Reunion

  1. This was actually the first one I read in this series, and I loved it, but it had the effect of me loving Paul and not really getting what was so great about Jesse.

  2. Rowena

really? I liked paul too, even when I first met him in the book before this book (I think) but in the end, I wanted Suze to end up with Jesse…somehow.

This was a great book, did you read the rest of the series?
