Tracy’s review of Horsing Around by Wynter Daniels

City girl Paige Eastman arrives at her recently deceased father’s Ocala, Florida, horse ranch to settle his estate, but she finds more than material assets with his business partner, resident cowboy Jake Skinner. The two engage in a hot fling until Paige learns she must sell the struggling enterprise out from under Jake.

All Jake wants is a chance to turn the business around since Paige’s father nearly ran it into the ground. But his attention quickly shifts to wrangling the hot prima donna who is now his partner. Can they overcome their differences without dousing the fire burning between them?

Paige heads to Florida from New York about 2 months after her father has died. She’s to deal with his property and business but she soon finds out it’s a bit more complicated than that. You see Jake who she meets on the ranch, is/was her father’s business partner. He wants to make the ranch work but Paige’s father ran it into the ground and it’s not making a profit. So should she listen to Jake or sell the property?

I have to tell you when Paige first showed up on the ranch and was interacting with Jake all I thought of was – what. a. bitch. Seriously. She had attitude in spades. Granted she was there to deal with her father’s estate and her father had walked out on her and her mother 15 years earlier so I can understand she’s doing something she doesn’t want to do, but come on! Really, you refuse to help Jake when all he asks for is for you to fill a bucket with water?

Luckily her disposition improved as the story went on. I have to say this was more a relationship that started with sex and moved on from there. We are taken too deeply into their thoughts but it does show them growing emotionally attached quickly after sex – which seemed to work.

I won’t tell you what happened – either with the ranch or with Jake and Paige – but I will say that it had a satisfying end. It was a quick, short read that was also very sexy in that wonderful cowboy way.

Rating: 3.25 out of 5

What I Read Last Week

Posted October 11, 2010 by Tracy in Features | 18 Comments

Hello there!
Another week has started!  How was your weekend?  Mine was spent running errands, looking for Halloween costumes for, and with, my girls (which would drive many people, including me, to drink heavily) and hanging with the kids.
I can’t say I’m in a reading slump, exactly.  I haven’t stopped reading but I started 3, yes 3, books and kept putting them all down!  What is up with that?   See the thing is, none of them are bad.  They’re all quite good, in fact, but they weren’t keeping my attention.  I finally just picked 1 up this morning and said – I will finish this book and of course, it’s wonderful.   *sigh* oh well.  Hopefully the other 2 will end up being just as wonderful.
Um, what else?  Huh.  I guess that’s it.  On to what I read last week…
First up was Stud by Brigit Zahara.  I read this one for The Book Binge.  It was the story of a beautiful and highly paid prostitute, Sasha, who is swept away by gorgeous Kyan for a night of passion.  Only Kyan is not exactly what he seems and he wants more than one night from Sasha – he wants eternity.  Not bad.  Pretty good sex scenes but also graphic maiming scene as well (not between Sasha and Kyan) so not for the faint of heart. 3.5 out of 5
Next up was Love Bites by Adrienne Barbeau.  This was book 2 in the Vampyres of Hollywood series and it was a great vampyres against werewolves – as well as other kinds of wolves – story.  You can read my review here as well as enter to win a HC copy if you leave a comment by 11:59pm on Wednesday, Oct. 13. 4.25 out of 5  (and is it me or does the chick on the cover of the book look like Milla Jovovich?)
My Tracy’s TBR challenge read for the week was Love is Blind by Lynsay Sands and I freaking loved it!  This has got to be one of my favorite of her historicals so far.  They all have the typical Sands humor and this was no different.  Lady Clarissa is blind as a bat without her spectacles but her evil stepmother won’t let her wear them because she thinks that no man will want to marry Clarissa after they see her in them.  So the stepmother actually breaks the glasses – the bitch!  But nobody wants Clarissa cuz she’s a clutz and just a menace to society without her glasses.  But Adrian Montfort, the Earl of Mowbray, looks beyond the blindness and does some absolutely lovely things for Clarissa – such as reading to her since she has no glasses, and giving her on a picnic during a ball because her stepmother won’t let her eat or drink anything in public for fear she’ll spill.  It was just a touching and very sweet love story.  5 out of 5
Next was Unrequited by Abigail Roux.  A cute story that lacked a bit of depth.  One man who’s in love with another but is determined to forget about him during a month long vacation with his best friend.  Only the best friend has for him too.  You can read my review here if you’re interested.  3.5 out of 5
Next I read an Ellora’s Cave books for The Book Binge – Horsing Around by Wynter Daniels was cute.  It was a pretty short story and told of a woman who had come to settle her deceased father’s estate.  Only there’s a business partner there that she didn’t know about. They start a hot affair but then what’s to happen to them when she has to sell the business?  Like I said, cute, but short and I felt like I wanted more.  3.25 out of 5
Next was Shaken by Dee Tenorio.  This was a book that I will review on Wednesday about a man and his wife who are dealing with a divorce and grief over the loss of their daughter.
Next was another read for The Book Binge (trying to catch up!) called Waiting for Wednesday by Mari Carr.  Lane goes into the pub that Tristan’s family owns every Wednesday.  She looks forward to these weekly visits because her marriage is crap and Tristan has become her best friend.  When she tries to leave her husband and he beats her, Tristan is there for her.  But Lane disappears to try and get her life together and doesn’t come back for a year.  When she returns, divorces, Tristan can’t hide his love for her any longer and he’s determined that Lane will  accept him into her life. 4 out of 5  You can read my review here.
Last on the list for the week was another for TBB – Nebulous by Shiloh Walker.  A fantasy/historical read that deals with demons and reincarnation.  A good story but I was left hanging with one of the characters and now I want to read her story! lol  4 out of 5
My Book Binge reviews that posted since last Monday:
Moonlight Protector by Jessica Coulter Smith (this one was from almost 2 years ago! lol)
Happy Reading!

Guest Lightning Review: Tropical Heat by Wynter Daniels

Kris‘ review of Tropical Exposure by Wynter Daniels

Megastar Marin Shay disappears from the radar a few weeks a year for a vacation from the pressures of Hollywood. This time, though, instead of the usual bodyguards she gets stuck with—beefy middle-aged men with bad breath and even worse comb-overs—she lucks into some scorching-hot eye candy.

Tony and Josh share the same objective—taking care of Marin in every way possible. And when she proposes they indulge her fantasy of a ménage a trois, both men are definitely eager to please.

There’s only one problem—one of them is really a tabloid reporter who could ruin everything.

This was a spicy quickie story. It was a nice escape to a private beach in Central America. Marin is sick of being in the limelight all the time so plans this vacation every year that takes lots and lots of planning to trick the paparazzi so they will leave her alone for a little while. She gets there and gets a nice view of one of the guards taking a shower with the deck shower and is impressed and turned on by what she sees. After some mutual flirting she ends up in bed with them.

The only thing that I would have wished differently is to have seen the other bodyguard’s POV, you saw Marin’s and the reporter’s but not the other guy. So he ended up being this extra hand in the story. This is not a deep romance, it is an encounter, so do not look for a traditional HEA. It does not end badly or anything like that, there is just no declaration of love. I liked the ending, it was a little abrupt but good.

I give this a 3.5 out of 5

Marin is determined to have a great vacation. She’s constantly in the limelight as a movie star, which she loves, but sometimes she just wants to take a vacation and be herself without anyone trying to get anything from her or take her picture.
She plans a two week vacation using decoys and many plane changes to reach her destination. She’s enjoying herself but would enjoy herself more if she could take advantage of her two hot bodyguards. Turns out they’re more than up *ahem* for the job and the threesome begins.

But Tony is really a reporter for a scandal sheet and he’s there to get a story about Marin. When he starts realizing that she’s a great person, what will he do – and what will happen when she finds out?

This was another quickie from Ellora’s Cave. While it might have only been only been 34 pages long it definitely packed a great ménage punch. I would have liked to have seen just a bit more in the story regarding the tabloid reporter but it left a lot to my imagination. Not a romance but a cute story nonetheless.

What I Read Last Week

Posted July 5, 2010 by Tracy in Features | 10 Comments

Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a good week last week.  I seriously did not. lol  It was really the week from hell.  I’m getting ready to go on vacation and there’s always so much work to do in preparation that sometimes it just doesn’t feel like it’s worth the effort.  Of course I won’t say that once I’m actually on vacation. 🙂  More about that in another post.

On to what I read last week.  Fair warning…most of what I read was for review on The Book Binge as I was catching up with reviews before vacation.  Most were novella’s or shorts:

First up was Experimenting With Ed by Katie Allen.  Novella – Read for The Book Binge.  This was a damn good story about a women scientist, her boss who’s after her and Ed.  Ed is a quiet, unassuming, soft spoken man who has no clue who he really is.  He’s been altered, along with 4 other men, by the government to be the perfect soldier – but they all escaped.  Reading about Ed and Claire and their race to get away from Claire’s boss was great and funny too.  I just love Allen’s writing.  4.5 out  of 5

Next I read Snow Play by Barbara Elsborg. Read for The Book Binge.  This was a cute little quickie about a woman who goes on vacation and has a rotten time.  When things seem to be going as bad as they can she meets Zach and has a great time.  My first read by Elsborg but I liked her writing style and humor – I’ll have to look into reading more of her books. 4 out of 5

After that it was Take It Off, Warrior by Eliza Knight. Read for The Book Binge.  A cute novella about a women interviewing strippers for her friends’ bachelorette party and ends up meeting the time travelling warrior of her dreams.

Next was Ghost Flute by Kimberly Dean.  Novella – Read for The Book Binge.  Another good novella that takes place on an Indian reservation.  It involves a legend about a ghost playing a flute that lures women in a sexual way.  While house sitting Serena is being pulled by the music of the flute while Chayton, the man who’s attracted to her tries to stop it all. 3.75 out of 5

Winner Takes All by Jenny Urban and Elizabeth Silver was my next read.  This was a very hot book about 2 friends who make a bet and one literally has his ass on the line. You can read my review here. 3.75 out of 5

Good Cop, Bad Girl by Paige Tyler was next on the agenda.  Quickie – Read for The Book Binge.   I gotta say – right off – that this is my second book by Tyler and they are some good, cute reads.  However, of both of those books the covers have been horrid.  What is with that?  The poor woman! There are some EC Exotika books that have some decent covers…hers aren’t any of them.  Anyway, a cute story about a woman who is having a birthday party at her home and her and her friends are a little too loud.  A copy comes to the door to give her a citation for being too loud and she thinks he’s a stripper posing as a cop.  Oops.  She’s thrilled of course when he comes back later to give her her birthday spanking. 3.75 out of 5  You can read my review here.

My next read was Tropical Exposure by Wynter Daniels. Quickie – Read for The Book Binge.   The story of a famous woman who just wants to go on vacation and have some peace and quiet.  What she gets is two weeks of smexin with her bodyguards.  But one is actually a tabloid reporter.  What will happen?  Cute story. 3.5 out of 5

I started reading Demon Blood by Meljean Brook earlier in the week and after 2 chapters decided that I wanted to re-read Demon Forged again.  Let me tell you it was just as good the second time around…maybe better than the first.  I just love the series and this book has so much going on that it’s mind boggling – but it never was too much.  Love it! 5 out of 5 (again)

I read Demon Blood by Meljean Brook right after that and it was great.  I read a review by Ana at The Book Smugglers that says it perfectly:“If Demon Forged was essentially a Big Picture book without losing sight of the romance then Demon Blood is a Romance book without losing sight of the Big Picture”.  Rosalia and Deacon’s story. Just a darned good read.  Also read for The Book Binge. 4.5 out of 5

And last on the list was Two-Week Trial by Missy Jane. Novella – Read for The Book Binge. A cute novella about a wealthy man who finds the woman he’s wanted for years and goes about winning her over.  The woman is leery since she doesn’t think much of herself but eventually gives in to a two week trial.  3 out of 5

I just read over my summaries and realized that this was obviously the “cute” week. lol  Yes, a lot of the books were cute.

My reviews that posted at The Book Binge this week:
Kidnapping Kara by Alyssa Brooks
Good Cop, Bad Girl by Paige Tyler
Lion’s Heat by Lora Leigh

Also, my entire list of reads from June is up here.

Happy Reading!
