What Are You Reading? (318)

Holly: I ended up doing a lot of rereading this week, though I didn’t intend to. I reread Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley, which took me forever. Mostly I just picked it up here and there when I had some free time. Then I read Wild Embrace by Nalini Singh, because I was jonseing for something from that world and, surprisingly, I hadn’t read it yet. That led me to reread Heart of Obsidian, Caressed by Ice and then Archangel’s Kiss (yes, in that order..don’t ask).

Rowena: It’s been a slow reading week for me (what’s new?) but basketball season for my daughter’s senior year has finally come to a close so I need to take care of a few things but after all of that is taken care of, I’ll be driving over to Holly’s for some quality book nerd fun. Ha!

I started reading Faking It by Jennifer Crusie but I was bored with it so I gave up almost half way through my re-read so now I’m reading Archangel’s Kiss by Nalini Singh and so far, I’m digging it. I’m not that far in but I’m hopeful. After this, I’ll be digging into my copy of Havoc by Jamie Shaw. I’m anxious to find out how that series ends.

Casee: I’m still glomming Lexi Blake. I’m reading A Dom is Forever from her Masters and Mercenaries series. I’m still loving it as much as I did at the beginning.

I also have reread a couple of Julie Garwood books. I love her historicals.

Holly: I didn’t read anything this week. I skimmed a couple books but that’s about it.

Rowena: This week, I finished Act Like It by Lucy Parker and then moved on to Pretty Face. Both books were strong books by Lucy Parker and I’m pretty anxious for more. She’s got a way with words and I’m really glad that I took a chance on her stuff.

Right now, I’m reading Good Boy by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy and so far, it’s pretty good. Blake Riley has such an infectious personality and I’m really loving him. I’m really looking forward to seeing how he wins Jess over. I should be done with this book today so after this, my plan is to read Havoc by Jamie Shaw.

Casee: I’ve been really into Lexi Blake lately. Ever since I read Satisfaction, I’ve been glomming her Masters & Mercenaries series. I love the Taggarts and their counterparts. I’m reading Dungeon Royale, which is book 6 in the series. Surprisingly, I’ve been reading the series all out of order. That would usually send my organized brain into chaos, but for some reason, it’s been working.

Holly: I can’t believe it’s Friday already. I had a terrible reading week. I tried to read The Bear Who Loved Me by Kathy Lyons, but I couldn’t get into it. I got through about half before I set it aside. I think I might have a hangup about bear-shifters. I kept picturing Baloo from The Jungle Book while I was reading and that just wasn’t hot. You know?

I started Wild Embrace by Nalini Singh this morning. I somehow completely forgot about it. I’m excited to read something new from her.

Rowena: I’m not reading much right now and I blame that on my binge watch of Shooter. You know, the TV show based on the movie with the same title that was based on a book and stars Ryan Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger. I liked the movie well enough but boy am I really enjoying the TV show. Like, I’m completely obsessed with it.

I am reading one book but I haven’t gotten that far into it and I’ve been reading it all week. Weird but I’ve been distracted by TV. I’m reading Act Like It by Lucy Parker and will hopefully get Pretty Face by Lucy Parker read right after. That’s all I got for you guys this week. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

What Are You Reading? (315)

Casee: I’ve been doing some good reading this last week. I finished Power Game by Christine Feehan which I really enjoyed. Bellisia and Ezekiel were a breath of fresh air. I’ve also been rereading the In Death series. I love getting to know Eve and Roarke all over again. It really makes me remember why Eve Dallas is one of the best heroines in romance (in my not-so-humble opinion).

Today I’m reading Satisfaction by Lexi Blake. I am loving this book. So far it’s even better than Ruthless. Revenge and romance go together perfectly, don’t they? I can’t put it down.

Holly: I did some more rereading early in the week. Fairytale Come Alive, Law Man and Wild Man by Kristen Ashley. I love the drama and angst in the first half of Fairytale Come Alive. Then I completely skip the last 1/4 because it’s so cheesy. I almost couldn’t finish Law Man. Mara drove me crazy. The first part of Wild Man is bad, but it’s good once I get past the 1/4 mark. Heart of Fire and Bluebird Winter by Linda Howard (which, incidentally, I always read as Bluebeard..heh). Heart of Fire is always a favorite. I enjoyed it just as much this time around. Bluebird Winter is just okay. I don’t feel like the story was as fleshed out as some of her other novellas. I’d have liked to see more for Derek.

For new books, I read Stolen Magic and Murdered Gods by Marina Finlayson. I enjoyed both, but I’m irritated that they were so short and ended on cliffhangers. I hope the next one releases quickly.

Rowena: I read all of the books last week and this week I’m catching up on shows and movies so my reading has slowed down some. After last week’s post, I read Seven Minutes in Heaven by Eloisa James (great read), Fury on Fire by Sophie Jordan (good), By Your Side by Kasie West (not her best but still good), #famous by Jilly Gagnon (okay), Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre (fabulous) and finished up with Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally (I need another Hundred Oaks books pronto!). All in all, I had a really great reading week.

I started The Bastard Billionaire by Jessica Lemmon the other day but I haven’t made much progress yet as I’ve been busy with other stuff but I’m hoping to get that read today. After I finish this, I’ll be reading Act Like It and Pretty Face by Lucy Parker. I’ve been hearing great things about those books so I’m looking forward to digging in.

Casee:I’m reading Power Game by Christine Feehan. I’m about halfway through it and really enjoying it so far. I’m also rereading the In Death series and am falling in love with Eve and Roarke all over again.

So far this year has been kind to me.

Holly: My youngest brought home a cold this week, and we’ve both been laid low by it. I hate being sick, but at least I got some reading time in. I did some re-reading. The Gamble, Mystery Man and Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley, and One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews. I also read Playing the Player by Amy Andrews. It was a cute contemporary romance, but I though the final conflict was a little contrived. Right now I’m reading Malsum Pass by Kimberley Forrest, which I picked up after seeing Tracy’s review of it. I’m about 40 pages in and so far so good.

Rowena: With all of the rain that we’ve been getting here in Southern California, I’ve really picked up my reading game and that makes me happy. I read Satisfaction by Lexi Blake, which was an enjoyable contemporary romance. I really liked the way that Bran went about getting things done in this book as opposed to his bonehead brother Riley in the last book. Bran was a breath of fresh air and I absolutely adored him. After that, I read Nine Rules to Break when Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean because that’s my book club discussion book and book club is on Monday. It was just as wonderful as it was the first time that I read it. <3

Next up, I read Sustained by Emma Chase again for the Totally Doable Challenge that I’m participating in this year and it was my favorite freaking read of the week. I cried, I laughed and I fell in love with Jake Becker and the McQuaid family all over again. I loved them so much that I re-read Sidebarred, too. Oh man, I have so much love for all of those characters. So much love. Next up, I read Accidentally on Purpose by Jill Shalvis and while the story was solid, the characters got on my hot damn nerves throughout too much of the story for me to give it anything more than a 3.

Now, I’m reading Seven Minutes in Heaven by Eloisa James. I’m about a third of the way into the book and I’m enjoying it. Can’t say much about the story yet but it’s going good so far. After this, I’m going to read Fury on Fire by Sophie Jordan and get to know North because I’ve been mighty curious about him since book 1 (his book is book 3). Wish me luck! 🙂
