Casee: I’m reading Blood Vow by J.R. Ward. It is book two from the Black Dagger Legacy series. I like it because it’s a fresh new view into the BDB. The BDB is most definitely intertwined, but the heart of it is on the fringes.

Holly: I spent the week finishing my reread of the Mercy Thompson series. I re-read Night Broken for the first time since it was released and my head didn’t explode so I’m calling that an improvement. I also read Fire Touched and then Dead Heat. My husband and I are binge-watching Vikings, so that’s been taking up my reading time.

WAYR-New

CaseeI’m finally off my forced reading hiatus thanks to Justice Ascending by Rebecca Zanetti. It is book three in her Scorpius Syndrome series. However badly I was looking forward to reading this book, I still had to make myself read the first chapter to get into it.

If you’re ever on a reading hiatus that isn’t by choice, I strongly suggest making yourself read. I received that advice from a reliable source and it worked. Hopefully, I’ll be back full time now.

Holly: I spent the week re-reading the Mercy Thompson series. Things have been pretty crazy around here and I haven’t had a lot of free reading time. I read Moon Called, Blood Bound, Iron Kissed, Bone Crossed and Frost Burned. I also re-read Alpha and Omega and Cry Wolf. I got some good UF/Fantasy recs last week, so I’m going to focus on those next.

Rowena: It’s been a pretty hectic week for me with my kid playing basketball all over Los Angeles and Orange County. My days have been spent working and my evenings were in the gym, cheering the Lady Saxons on to victory. I’m going to take credit for all of our wins because I cheered loud. Ha! I did manage to get a book or two read in between work and basketball. I finished Delicious by Sherry Thomas and thought the book was really slow in the beginning and while I enjoyed the ending, that didn’t make up for the slow beginning. I’d give it about a 2.5 because while it was enjoyable, it was really wordy. After that, I started two books but didn’t get much read in one of those books.

I read and finished The Hero by Donna Grant and that book suffered from inappropriate lust that had me rolling my eyes down the street. Just…no. Now, I’m focusing on the other book that I started but didn’t get to. I’m reading Off the Rails by Jill Sorenson and so far, it’s pretty good so I’m hopeful that it’ll stay that way. I trust Jill Sorenson to take care of me and my reading needs.

Holly: I had a pretty sad reading week. I managed to finish The Thing About Love by Julie James and I read Alphas: Origins by Ilona Andrews,  but otherwise I just skimmed a couple re-reads. I’m actually in the mood for something similar to Ilona Andrews or Patricia Briggs. Anyone have any recommendations?

Rowena: I’m not sure if it’s the end of year giving me the blues or what but I only read one book this week. Well, after I finished This is Our Song by Samantha Chase. That book ended up being good. I liked it but just as I was going to start my book club book, I got an eARC of The Thing about Love by Julie James and well, I never even opened my book club book, I just jumped right into the Julie James….and I loved it. Of course, I loved it. Julie James takes care of my reading needs each and every single time and this time was no different. Such a good book. Now, I’m reading my book club book, haha. That book is Delicious by Sherry Thomas and it’s slow going. I’m hoping it picks up soon because I only have 3 days to finish this book and I’m only on chapter 5. Wish me luck!

Holly: I spent the week rereading old Linda Howard favorites. Dying to Please, Midnight Rainbow, Diamond Bay, White Lies, Heartbreaker, Tears of the Renegade, Against the Rules, Mackenzie’s Mountain, MacKenzie’s Mission, White Out and Heart of Fire. It’s amazing how well they hold up, even after all this time.

I started Moonshadow by Thea Harrison but I couldn’t get into it. That has nothing to do with the book and everything to do with my current reading mood. I’m going to try again this weekend. Currently I’m reading The Thing About Love by Julie James. So far it’s fabulous.

Rowena: It’s been an interesting week of reading for me. I finished Managed by Kristen Callihan (good stuff), Fly with Me by Chanel Cleeton (great stuff), and Bad Boy by Elliot Wake (different and good but frustrating). Right now, I’m reading This is Our Song by Samantha Chase and it’s slow going right now. Hopefully it picks up. Fingers crossed.

What Are You Reading? (308)

WAYR-New

Holly: We skipped last week because we were all busy, so I’m doing 2 weeks in one. Not that I have much to report. We threw my grandmother a surprise 80th birthday party last weekend, so I was pretty busy with that. I read Fluency by Jennifer Foehner Wells last week, which I discovered while browsing for WTF Covers and picked up on a whim. It wasn’t too bad. It was slow in parts and I’m irritated that it ended in a cliffhanger, but overall I enjoyed it. I started the second book, Remanence, but I didn’t get far before I set it aside. I don’t know if I’ll go back to it or not. Book 1 was enjoyable, but I don’t know if I’m interested in continuing the series. I also started The Goal by Elle Kennedy, but once again set it aside around the middle of chapter 1. It just isn’t grabbing me. I’ll try again later. I re-read Soaring by Kristen Ashley, though it barely counts since I skimmed a lot.

This week I still had a lot of family in town. Most of my time was taken up with that, getting ready for Thanksgiving  (OMFG how is that next week already??) and spending time with my daughters, so I had another light reading week. I re-read Dying to Please by Linda Howard. I love Sarah, the heroine. I started Moonshadow by Thea Harrison (EEEE!!), but I’m barely into it. My baby is turning 5 this weekend, so I doubt I’ll have much reading time. I hope to finish it tonight, but we’ll see.

Rowena: It’s been a long ass couple of weeks but I’m getting some reading done (thank goodness). This week I read Shut Up and Kiss Me by Jessica Lemmon (liked it), Downed by Jen Frederick (loved it) and right now I’m finishing up First Step Forward by Liora Blake (really liking it) before starting Idol by Kristen Callihan. I’m on a roll and I’m hoping that this reading mojo stays with me for the rest of the year. Wish me luck on that. 🙂
