MR-New

Casee: January was good to me reading wise. Whenever I looked outside and saw all the horrible snow, I picked up a book to get my mind off of it. I’m glomming Lexi Blake right now and am loving her.

  1. Bound Together by Christine Feehan | 4.25 out of 5
  2. Blood Vow by J.R. Ward | 4 out of 5
  3. Island of Glass by Nora Roberts | 4 out of 5
  4. Innocent in Death by J.D. Robb (reread) | 4.75 out of 5
  5. Moonshadow by Thea Harrison | 4.25 out of 5
  6. Naked in Death by J.D. Robb (reread) | 4.25 out of 5
  7. Power Game by Christine Feehan | 4 out of 5
  8. Satisfaction by Lexi Blake | 4.5 out of 5
  9. Love and Let Die by Lexi Blake | 4.25 out of 5
  10. Dominance Never Dies by Lexi Blake | 4.25 out of 5

My absolute favorite of this month was Satisfaction by Lexi Blake. I loved Bran. Loved him. Loved, loved, loved him. I thought Drew was it for me with the Lawless series, but I am pretty sure that it’s Bran. If you haven’t read this series, you should. Revenge and romance. Check. Then of course I had to go back and read about all the Taggarts. I’m also really enjoying rereading the In Death series, even if I’m doing it out of order.

Holly: I had a pretty blase reading month. A lot of re-reads and not-so-stellar books.

  1. Malsum Pass by Kimberly Forrest | DNF
  2. Bluebird Winter by Linda Howard (reread) | 2.75/5
  3. Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley (reread) | 3.5/5
  4. Wild Man by Kristen Ashley (reread) | 3/5
  5. Law Man by Kristen Ashley (reread) | 2.5/5
  6. Fairytale Come Alive by Kristen Ashley (reread) | 3.5/5
  7. The Gamble by Kristen Ashley (reread) | 3.25/5
  8. Stolen Magic by Marina Finlayson | 3.25/5
  9. Murdered Gods by Marina Finlayson | 3/5
  10. The Winter Over by Matthew Iden | 3.25/5
  11. Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs (reread) | 4.75/5
  12. Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley (reread) | 4/5
  13. Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs (reread) | 4.5/5
  14. Heart of Fire by Linda Howard (reread) | 5/5

My favorite new read of the month was probably Stolen Magic by Marina Finlayson. I enjoyed the premise and the world. I didn’t enjoy that it ended on a cliffhanger. My least favorite new read was probably Murdered Gods. It felt very short and ended on another cliffhanger (yes, I’m still whinging about that).

Rowena: January was a great reading month for me. I started the year off right and went ham with my reading. I read a lot of great books:

  1. Small Admissions by Amy Poeppel | 4 out of 5
  2. Solo by Jill Mansell | 1 out of 5
  3. Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen | 4 out of 5
  4. Winning the Wallflower by Eloisa James | 4 out of 5
  5. Satisfaction by Lexi Blake | 4 out of 5
  6. Nine Rules to Break when Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
  7. Sustained by Emma Chase (re-read) | 5 out of 5
  8. Sidebarred by Emma Chase (re-read) | 5 out of 5
  9. Accidentally on Purpose by Jill Shalvis | 3 out of 5
  10. Seven Minutes in Heaven by Eloisa James | 4 out of 5
  11. Fury on Fire by Sophie Jordan | 3 out of 5
  12. By Your Side by Kasie West | 3 out of 5
  13. #famous by Jilly Gagnon | 3 out of 5
  14. Hollywood Dirty by Alessandra Torre | 4.25 out of 5
  15. Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally | 4 out of 5
  16. Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven | 4 out of 5
  17. The Bastard Billionaire by Jessica Lemmon | 4 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre and Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen. Both books were fun reads that kept me entertained from beginning to end. Some honorable mentions to Winning the Wallflower by Eloisa James and Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally.

My least favorite read of the month probably goes to #famous by Jilly Gagnon and Fury on Fire by Sophie Jordan. Famous by Jilly Gagnon was a bit young for me and Fury on Fire wasn’t bad but it wasn’t my favorite either.

This month we’re giving away:

Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre
Satisfaction by Lexi Blake
Any book from Holly’s List (since I didn’t have a true favorite this month)

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Monthly Reads: December 2016

Posted January 10, 2017 by Holly in Features, Giveaways | 9 Comments

MR-New

Casee: I read one, you read that right, one book. Which is better than November when I read none books. That’s right. None books. I’m praying that 2017 goes much better than the end of 2016.

  1. Justice Ascending by Rebecca Zanetti | 4.5

It was my favorite book of the month.

Holly: December seemed to fly by and drag on at the same time. My reading time was limited, so I did a lot of re-reading (again).  Last month I binge-read Ilona Andrews, so it seemed fitting to binge on Patricia Briggs this month.

  1. Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
  2. Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4 out of 5
  3. Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4 out of 5
  4. Fair Game by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5
  5. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs (re-read_) | 4 out of 5
  6. Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4 out of 5
  7. Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
  8. Bone Crossed by Patrica Briggs (re-read) | 3.5 out of 5
  9. Silver Bourne by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 3.75 out of 5
  10. River Marked by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 3 out of 5
  11. The Thing About Love by Julie James | 4 out of 5
  12. One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews (re-read) (sort of) | 4.25 out of 5
  13. Bound Together by Christine Feehan | 4 out of 5
  14. Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 4 out of 5

My favorite read of the month was probably One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews. It was sort of a re-read, because I read it as it was being written (they released it as a weekly serial), but the full-length release this month included additional material, so I’m counting it as new. I adore this world. I suggest everyone read the series. Honorable mention goes to The Thing About Love by Julie James. She always writes such smart romances.

I didn’t really have a least favorite read of the month. If I had to choose, it would be River Marked by Briggs. I liked the book, but it was slower than a lot of the others in the series.

Rowena: I didn’t get a lot of reading done in the entire month of December. I was busy with basketball, the holidays and covering for people out at work. I did get some reading in, just not as much as I hoped. In the new year, I’m going to read when I feel like it and not be too hard on myself when I don’t read as much as I thought I would.

Here’s what I read in December:

  1. Bad Boy by Elliot Wake | 2.75 out of 5
  2. This is Our Song (Shaughnessy Brothers #4) by Samantha Chase | 4 out of 5
  3. That Thing about Love (FBI/US Attorneys #7) by Julie James | 4.5 out of 5
  4. Delicious (Marsdens #1) by Sherry Thomas | 3.75 out of 5
  5. Rules of Contact (Play by Play #12) by Jaci Burton | 4 out of 5
  6. The Hero (Sons of Texas #1) by Donna Grant | 2 out of 5
  7. Off the Rails by Jill Sorenson | 3 out of 5
  8. The Fixer (Games People Play #1) by Helenkay Dimon | 4 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to The Thing about Love by Julie James because that was a damn good book. Julie James continues to shine and I adore her stuff. My least favorite read of the month goes to The Hero by Donna Grant. It was just meh for me.

This month we’re giving away:

One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews
The Thing about Love by Julie James
Justice Ascending by Rebecca Zanetti

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Monthly Reads: November 2016

Posted December 5, 2016 by Rowena in Features, Giveaways | 9 Comments

MR-New

Holly: I spent the majority of November re-reading old Linda Howard favorites. I tend to go back to old favorites when I don’t have a lot of reading time because they’re easy to 1) finish in a single sitting or 2) set aside when I get busy.

  1. Fluency by Jennifer Foehner Wells | 3.5/5
  2. White Out by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4/5
  3. Soaring by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 3/5
  4. Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard (re-read) | 3.5/5
  5. Dying to Please by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4/5
  6. The Way Home by Linda Howard (re-read) | 3/5
  7. Midnight Rainbow by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4/5
  8. Diamond Bay by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4/5
  9. Heartbreaker by Linda Howard (re-read) | 3.5/5
  10. White Lies by Linda Howard (re-read) | 3.5/5
  11. Mackenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4/5
  12. Mackenzie’s Mission by Linda Howard (re-read) | 3.5/5
  13. A Game of Chance by Linda Howard (re-read) | 3/5
  14. How You See Her by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4/5
  15. Cry No More by Linda Howard (re-read) | 4.5/5
  16. Tears of the Renegade by Linda Howard (re-read) | 2.75/5
  17. Against the Rules by Linda Howard (re-read) | 3/5
  18. The Cutting Edge by Linda Howard (re-read) | 2.75/5

I don’t really have a favorite or least favorite read this month. Fluency was my only new read in November and it was just okay.

Rowena: November was a weird reading month for me. I’ve been trying to get back into reading the books on my review pile but I kept reading other books. I re-read a couple of books because I couldn’t get enough of the people in that world so I went back and revisited them. I also read a lot of books that I have bought myself and I think in the new year, I’m going to request less and read more of the books I already own. My attempt to keep myself honest on that front is to join Super Librarian Wendy’s TBR Challenge next year. Wish me luck on that.

  1. The Other Sister by Dianne Dixon | 2.5 out of 5
  2. Irresistibly Yours (Oxford #1) by Lauren Layne (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5
  3. I Wish You Were Mine (Oxford #2) by Lauren Layne (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5
  4. Fighting for Devlin (Lost Boys #1) by Jessica Lemmon | 4.25 out of 5
  5. Shut Up and Kiss Me (Lost Boys #2) by Jessica Lemmon | 4 out of 5
  6. Downed (Gridiron #3) by Jen Frederick | 4.75 out of 5
  7. First Step Forward (Grand Valley #1) by Liora Blake | 4 out of 5
  8. Idol (VIP #1) by Kristen Callihan | 3.5 out of 5
  9. Size Matters by Alison Bliss | 3.5 out of 5
  10. Managed (VIP #2) by Kristen Callihan | 4 out of 5
  11. Fly with Me (Wild Aces #1) by Chanel Cleeton | 4 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to Downed by Jen Frederick. Ace Anderson and Bryant Johnson were great characters and their romance completely worked for me. Jen Frederick continues to shine for me and she continues to impress the socks out of me with every book she releases. Downed was another example of that.

My least favorite read of the month goes to The Other Sister by Dianne Dixon. This book reminded me of my issues with The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. Every character was unlikable and I just couldn’t deal with all the meanness and drama. Everyone got on my nerves and meh. I just didn’t like it.

This month we’re giving away:

Downed by Jen Frederick
Any book from Linda Howard’s backlist

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Monthly Reads: October 2016

Posted November 7, 2016 by Rowena in Features, Giveaways | 6 Comments

MR-New

Casee: I completely feel like a piece of book poo. This is the second month that I’ve read less than 10 books. Since April, I had my reading mojo back. I conquered it. It was great. I felt great. The problem here is that I’m not in a slump. It’s that my concentration is shot. I feel like a toddler that can’t concentrate longer than 5 minutes at a time. It’s terrible.

I read two (so ashamed) books in October. Neither of them were good.

  1. Deadly Silence by Rebecca Zanetti | 2.5/5
  2. Family Sins by Sharon Sala | 3/5

Holly: Surprisingly, October was my best reading month of the year so far.  I binge-read Ilona Andrews’ backlist this month, which helped. So did my re-read of Thea Harrison’s Elder Races series.

  1. Rules of Contact by Jaci Burton | 4.25/5
  2. Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowena | 4.25\5
  3. Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison (re-read) | 4.5/5
  4. The Oracle by Thea Harrison (re-read) | 4.5/5
  5. Lord’s Fall by Thea Harrison (re-read) | 4/5
  6. The Wicked by Thea Harrison (re-read) | 3.5/5
  7.  Kinked by Thea Harrison (re-read) | 4.25/5
  8. Dragos Takes a Holiday (re-read) | 4.25/5
  9. Pia Saves the Day by Thea Harrison (re-read) | 4/5
  10. Peanut Goes to School by Thea Harrison (re-read) | 4/5
  11. Alphas: Origins by Ilona Andrews | 3.5/5
  12. Questing Beast by Ilona Andrews | 3/5
  13. Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews | 4.25/5
  14. Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews | 4.5/5
  15. One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews | 4.25/5
  16. Silver Shark by Ilona Andrews | 3.25/5
  17. Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews | 4/5
  18. Fate’s Edge by Ilona Andrews | 4/5
  19. Steel’s Edge by Ilona Andrews | 4.25/5
  20. Steadfast by Sarina Bowen (re-read) | 4.5/5
  21. Keepsake by Sarina Bowen | 4.5/5
  22. Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen (re-read) | 4/5
  23. Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen | 4.25/5
  24. Saving Grace by Julie Garwood (re-read) | 4.5/5
  25. The Lion’s Lady by Julie Garwood (re-read) | 4.5/5

My favorite reads of the month were probably the Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews. I’m not going to choose a favorite since I enjoyed all three, but Sweep in Peace might edge the other two out..just barely. Honorable mentions go to Keepsake and Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen and Rules of Contact by Jaci Burton. My least favorite read of the month was probably Silver Shark by Ilona Andrews. I actually really enjoyed it, but I was sad to see it end and I’m irritated there aren’t more in the series.

Rowena: Normally, this is the time where my reading slows down but this year was a little different in that the entire freaking year was like a slow down because I just haven’t been reading like my normal self. That makes me sad but even with all of that going on, I still got some books read last month.

  1. Results May Vary by Bethany Chase | 4 out of 5
  2. The Goal (Off-Campus #4) by Elle Kennedy | 4 out of 5
  3. P.S. I Like You by Kasie West | 4 out of 5
  4. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne | 4.25 out of 5
  5. Undecided (Burnham College #1) by Julianna Keyes (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
  6. Sincerely, Carter (Sincerely, Carter #1) by Whitney Gracia Williams (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
  7. Addicted (Outlaws #2) by Elle Kennedy | 3.5 out of 5
  8. Keepsake (True North #3) by Sarina Bowen | 4.5 out of 5
  9. Shadow Rider (Shadow #1) by Christine Feehan | 2.5 out of 5
  10. Twisted Palace (Royals #3) by Erin Watt | 2.5 out of 5
  11. Ruled (Outlaws #3) by Elle Kennedy | 3 out of 5
  12. Someone Like You (Oxford #3) by Lauren Layne | 5 out of 5
  13. One Snowy Night (Heartbreaker Bay #2.5) by Jill Shalvis | 4 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to Someone Like You by Lauren Layne. It was a book that I’ve been looking forward to for such a long time and seriously, it’s Lincoln Mathis! I’m so stinkin’ glad that the hype in my head for Lincoln’s story was upheld because it was so stinkin’ good. I loved it so much! But the book doesn’t come out until next month so I won’t be giving it away just yet. Honorable mentions to Keepsake by Sarina Bowen (Yay for Zach) and The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. Both books were fantastic!

My least favorite book of the month goes to Shadow Rider by Christine Feehan and Twisted Palace by Erin Watt. Both books left me disappointed. I wanted to like Shadow Rider but the hero drove me right up the wall and Twisted Palace was a let down because it was different from what I expected and have come to love about this series. I was left wanting more from everyone (except Reed) and the new characters made me want to punch someone right in the face so meh.

This month we’re giving away:

clean-sweep

Keepsake by Sarina Bowen
Archangel’s Heart by Nalini Singh
Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews (or Sweep in Peace, winner’s choice)

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Monthly Reads: September 2016

Posted October 5, 2016 by Rowena in Features, Giveaways | 6 Comments

MR-New

Casee: The month of September was a pathetic month for me. I’m ashamed to even tell you all the number of books I read. The patheticness (a word made up for me) that was my reading is laughable. I didn’t even do any re-reads.

  1. Apprentice in Death by J.D. Robb | 4.25 out of 5
  2. Leopard’s Fury by Christine Feehan | 3.5 out of 5
  3. Race the Darkness by Abbie Roads | 3.75 out of 5

My favorite book by far was Apprentice in Death. Eve Dallas. Let’s not even address the fact that I only read three books. The most interesting book I read was Race the Darkness. Abbie Roads is a new to me author and I’m looking forward to sharing my review with you.

Holly: September was a pretty sad month for me, too. I did a couple re-reads and that was mostly it.

  1. Golden Trail by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 3.5 out of 5
  2. Fate’s Edge by Ilona Andrews | 4 out of 5
  3. Heat Exchange by Shannon Stacey | 3.5 out of 5
  4. Blonde Date by Sarina Bowen (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
  5. Rock Chick: Revolution by Kristen Ashley | 2 out of 5

My favorite read of the month (ha ha) was Fate’s Edge by Ilona Andrew’s. I love the world and the characters. My least favorite read was Rock Chick: Revolution. That was such a ridiculous book, I can’t even talk about it.

Rowena: September was another busy month for me as my daughter started her senior year in high school. So we’ve had basketball, senior pictures and starting at a new Ward to get through and all in all, it’s been a really good month for us personally and as a family. I can’t believe that Brenna is a senior in high school. I remember the first day of Kindergarten. She’s so grown now and I miss when she was little.

My reading wasn’t as grand as I’d hoped but what’s new? I went through a reading funk in September and still managed to get some books read so I’m going to count my blessings. 🙂 Here’s what I read last month:

  1. Four Letter Word (Dirty Deeds #1) by J. Daniels | 1 out of 5
  2. Three Amazing Things about You by Jill Mansell | 3.5 out of 5
  3. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins | 3.5 out of 5
  4. The Boy is Back (Boys #4) by Meg Cabot | 4 out of 5
  5. To Love and To Cherish (Wedding Belles #3) by Lauren Layne | 4.5 out of 5
  6. The Billionaire Next Door (Billionaire Bad Boys #2) by Jessica Lemmon | 4 out of 5
  7. The Viscount and the Vixen (Hellions of Havisham #4) by Lorraine Heath | 4 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to the third Wedding Belles book, To Love and to Cherish by Lauren Layne. It was such a great book with a steamy romance that I adored. Logan and Alexis rocked my socks and I was very happy with their story. Honorable mentions go out to The Billionaire Next Door by Jessica Lemmon (Yay for Tag!), The Boy is Back (Boys #4) by Meg Cabot and The Viscount and the Vixen (Hellions of Havisham #4) by Lorraine Heath. All were fabulous reads as well.

My least favorite read of the month goes to Four Letter Words (Dirty Deeds #1) by J. Daniels. There was too much immaturity and crap that I just didn’t get and didn’t like. The hero and the heroine got on my nerves and I almost DNF’d it but muscled through but in the end, I was still dissatisfied with everything. shrugs

This month we’re giving away:

To Love and to Cherish (Wedding Belles #3) by Lauren Layne
Race the Darkness by Abbie Roads
Fate’s Edge by Ilona Andrews (or book 1, On the Edge, if the winner hasn’t read it yet)

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Also, be sure to tell us what book you’re interested in winning. You can put your name in for more than one book, but you’ll only be allowed to win one, so choose wisely.
