From "falling in love" to "it's complicated," New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristin Miller brings you three, full-length, deliciously hot paranormal love stories with sexy alpha heroes and the strong-willed women who bring these werewolves to heel.

The Werewolf Wears Prada

Melina Rosenthal worships at the altar of all things fashion. Her dream is to work for the crème de la crème fashion magazine, Eclipse, and she'll do pretty much anything to get there. Even fixing up the image of a gorgeous, sexy public figure who's all playboy, all the time. Even if he's the guy who broke her heart a year ago. And even if Melina has no idea that Hayden Dean is actually a werewolf...

Beauty and the Werewolf

Billionaire werewolf Jack MacGrath has almost everything—the respect of his peers, a mansion in San Francisco, a private jet, and fast cars. But without a mate, Jack's in trouble. Then he sees her. Gorgeous, demure, proud...and his enemy. Isabelle Connelly is werewolf royalty and falling for anyone lesser — to say nothing of a rival pack — would be, er, unseemly. Now she must choose between her duty to her family and her pack...or her perfect fated mate.

What a Werewolf Wants

Private investigator – and werewolf – Ryder McManus doesn’t believe in marriage. But then he never expected to find his fated mate, Josie, at his best friend's wedding festivities. When Josie and Ryder are together, the chemistry heats up. While he’s trying to stop the wedding, she’ll do whatever it takes to give the couple a dream day. But the secret he’s trying to expose might just ruin everything.

The Werewolf Wears Prada

Melina interviewed Hayden Dean for an article a year ago.  They sat in Starbucks and had a great time.  He then asked her out to an awards ceremony that he was attending that night and she was so excited.  He then stood her up and she was not only heart-broken but pissed as hell.  Now the magazine she works for has assigned her to write a behind the scenes look at none other than Hayden Dean.  The last thing she wants to do is hang around him but what choice does she have.  If she does a great job on the article her dream of working at the parent magazine will come true.

Hayden was captivated by Melina when he first met her – of course he was as he realized that she’s his mate.  Unfortunately, things in the city were going haywire and he had to do what his alpha father asked – that included standing Melina up.  Now that she’s back in his life he wants to make things work but he also wants to keep her safe.  He’s up for alpha of the San Francisco pack now that his father’s died but there are those who don’t want him in the position as he’s not a born werewolf.  He must find out who is behind all of the friction and keep Melina safe while doing it.

This was a very cute novella.  I really liked both Hayden and Melina and thought their chemistry was off the charts.  The situation with the rogue wolves who didn’t want Hayden as their alpha (along with all turned werewolves) was pretty intense at some points.  I thought it was a novella that was well done.  It had a great blend of romance, intrigue, suspense and the paranormal.

Beauty and the Werewolf

(This part of the review was previously here posted on Book Binge.)

Isabelle is the daughter of the Alpha of the Irish Wolf Pack. She is a painter and makes quite a bit of money on her paintings. Unfortunately when she first started she showed her dad a painting that she created and he reacted badly – telling her that painting was a waste of time. She was going to be the pack alpha one day and she should spend her days studying tradition and pack policy! Wow, what a kick in the gut. Isabelle didn’t give up her dream, however and continued painting in secret. Now her father is dying and she wants to show him all of her paintings at the same time hoping for his approval. She has been searching high and low for the last 10 or so paintings and finds out that there’s one up for auction in San Francisco. Her father doesn’t have much time left so she heads to SF to buy her painting back.

At the auction in SF Isabelle finds she has a competitor for her painting and she finds out his name is Jack McGrath. Her father hates the McGrath’s and has never said a nice word about any of them. Jack knows almost instantly that Isabelle is his Luminary – his fated mate. He’s not only excited to find his fated mate but if they bond it will stop his fast downward spiral towards death. In this world shifters live to be about 300 years old unless they find their fated mates and then they can live as long as 1000 years. Isabelle isn’t thrilled that Jack managed to buy the painting out from under her but then Jack says he’ll give her the painting if she attends a gallery event with him. How can she refuse when she’ll get her painting back?

What begins as a simple companion date soon turns into more and soon Jack and Isabelle are falling in love. Her father, however, needs to give his approval or Isabelle will have nothing to do with Jack, no matter how much she loves him.

This was a cute novella. It was a quick read but quite a bit happened in a short period of time. It didn’t feel rushed either so that was nice.

I really liked both Isabelle and Jack in this story though I would have loved to get to know both of them more. I also appreciated that Isabelle didn’t feel the fated mate connection right away. It made Jack work for it and put a little spin on it all. Jack was intriguing enough to keep my attention as he tried to make amends for all of his ancestors wrong-doing.

Isabelle’s father was a real piece of work but he eventually redeemed himself in a big way. I was happy that he loved his daughter enough to let her be happy even after he died. Isabelle’s friend Neil was overprotective and I couldn’t quite figure him out. On the one hand he was great to her but he proved he could be a real bastard when it came to Jack but took it so far overboard it was ridiculous.

A quick read but a nice little paranormal romance. This is the second book in the series but it read perfectly well as a standalone.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

What a Werewolf Wants

Josie’s sister, Carrie, is getting married.  Josie and her matchmaking service set them up and now their wedding and the few events leading up to it will be filmed.  Josie is excited for her sister but also excited about the show and what it will do for her business.

Ryder McManus is a turned werewolf and his best friend, Mitch, marrying Carrie.  Ryder is set on breaking them up.  They hardly dated before they decided to marry and Mitch hasn’t even told Carrie that he’s a werewolf!

Obviously Josie and Ryder butt heads on the issue as Josie thinks that Carrie and Mitch are perfect for each other.  She believes that Ryder is too jaded to see love when it smacks him in the face because of his job as a private investigator.  She sets out to prove that Carrie and Mitch are perfect for each other but while she’s doing it she starts to having feelings for Mitch as well.  Of course when both Carrie and Josie find out what Mitch and Ryder are the wedding might be off for good.

This was a great story and my favorite of the three in this set.  I loved Josie and Ryder together and their duo pig-headedness.  Seriously, the pair were hilarious in their stubbornness toward each other and what they were each trying to accomplish.  Mitch knew that Josie was his fated mate – his Luminary – but he knew that that didn’t even guarantee that they would work out. He was so jaded but that made it all the better when he finally realized how wrong he’d been about Carrie and Mitch and of course his feeling for Josie.

Their chemistry was off the charts and I just loved them together.  I loved shifter stories and I love stories that revolve around weddings so to put the two together was like a dream come true. Lol

Q&A

Q&A with Thea Harrison – Book Binge

About Moonshadow

1. For any new readers out there, Moonshadow is the first book in the Elder Races series spin off and will focus on the UK demesnes. Can you tell our readers a little about what to expect from this series? Any key people we should keep our eye on?

The Moonshadow trilogy focuses on the people caught in an ancient fight between the Light and Dark Courts. I pull a few elements from Shakespeare and a few from Arthurian mythology, and I set the story in the Elder Races world.

Isabeau, the Queen of the Light Court, is obsessed with the total extermination of King Oberon and his Dark Court. At the beginning of Moonshadow, Oberon has fallen into an ensorcelled sleep in Lyonesse and his magic rages out of control. The land of Lyonesse has been cut off from earth, and the knights of the Dark Court who are caught earth side are being hunted to death.

Definitely Isabeau and Morgan, the Captain of her Hounds, are key people in the trilogy, along with Oberon and his people. Oberon’s commander Nikolas is the hero of Moonshadow. There is also a secondary character, Robin, who makes an appearance in all three stories.

2. How many books do you have planned for the Moonshadow series?

Currently I’ve made a commitment to a trilogy, but if readers respond positively to the original trilogy, I have a second trilogy planned—so there could be a total of six stories.

3. Can you tell us if we’ll be seeing any of our friends from the Elder Races world in the new series? If so, which ones?

Yes, there will be some character crossover from the original Elder Races books. Dr. Kathryn Shaw has already made an appearance. Isabeau’s twin sister Tatiana, Queen of the Light Fae in Los Angeles, is also going to factor in the stories, along with at least one of her daughters, perhaps both. There are a few others who may make an appearance, but their roles are a bit more nebulous, so I’d better not say more at this time!

Drool

4. I like to picture the characters in my head while reading books so can you tell us who your inspirations (celebrities, models, etc..) were for Sophie and Nikolas?

Nikolas definitely looks like Paul Marron, the model I hired for the cover. As for Sophie, I have been picturing her like a younger Ashley Judd, only with dark, curling hair.

5. Your writing schedule must be busy these days, will we be seeing more Elder Races books or have you moved on?

I have not moved on from the Elder Races. I’ve simply taken a break to tell these other stories. I’ve also got another spin-off trilogy planned, so yes, I’m very busy! 🙂 It’s a big world, and there’s so much story to tell in it.

Random Questions

6. What is the first book that made you cry?

The first one that I remember is Black Beauty. I cried my eyes out as a child, and I must have read that book eleven or twelve times.

7. What is your writing Kryptonite?

Illness. When I reach a certain point—such as contracting the flu—I can’t get the words to flow. All my characters want to stay in bed!

8. What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

I have been so blessed to have met and befriended so many talented authors, and not only do they help me become a better writer, I hope they have helped me become a better person. I feel like I could write a dedication to them for my life and add, “all mistakes are my own, of course.” A short (not comprehensive) list of authors who impacted my life in a positive way while I wrote Moonshadow are: Patricia Briggs, Ann Aguirre, Kristen Callihan, Eloisa James, Jeffe Kennedy, Elizabeth Hunter, Grace Draven, Carrie Ann Ryan, and Katie Reus. I’m so grateful to each and every one.

9. If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

Be more self-protective, and believe in yourself more.

10. How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

I have one unpublished book that is currently on submission. I don’t have any half-finished stories—for good or for ill, I finish them all.

Thanks so much for having me on your blog today! Readers, if you want to get the latest news, you can follow me on Facebook and Twitter, and sign up for my newsletter for updates!

four-stars

A ruthless criminal unleashes his most feral desires in the new Leopard novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wild Cat.
Passion melts the will of an ice-cold criminal when he meets the one woman who can tame the beast inside him.
Leopard’s Fury
With her own bakery in San Antonio, Evangeline Tregre made a new life far from the brutal lair of shifters she was born into. Though she is all too aware of her leopard-shifter blood, she never felt the sensation of a wild animal stirring inside her. Not until Alonzo Massi walked into her bakery. The powerful shifter is as irresistible as he is terrifying, but his icy demeanor tells her to keep her distance.
Alonzo knows better than to let himself get involved with someone like Evangeline. She doesn’t deserve the type of danger that follows him, or the threat of his Amur leopard. But even with his lean muscle and iron will, Alonzo isn’t strong enough to stay away from the one woman who can make him feel at peace. And when their secret lives draw a mortal threat, Alonzo unleashes the feral passion he keeps pent up inside himself.

Evangeline Tregre escaped the bayou and her leopard legacy to make a home for herself in San Anotnio. The bakery she opened is her pride and joy and she has given it everything she has. When Alonzo Massi walks in, she instinctively knows he is different. Although his eyes are ice, Evangeline can see a thaw when he looks at her. Dubbing him her “Iceman”, Evangeline looks forward to the days when Alonzo comes into her bakery. When a fellow leopard tries to tell her that it’s her duty to be his mate, Alonzo unexpectedly shows up and it’s then that Evangeline sees that Alonzo is a leopard himself. At that point, no matter how drawn she is to him, Evangeline wants nothing more to do with him. Evangeline’s childhood has made her leery of leopards and she has sworn to herself that she will never again be a part of a lair.

Alonzo Massi has carefully cultivated his Italian image to hide himself and his family from his Russian uncles. If it were ever to be discovered that he was alive, his uncles would come after him with a vengeance. Alonzo is a rare breed of leopard, an Amur leopard. Vicious and wild, the only person that can keep Alonzo’s leopard under control is Alonzo himself. All Alonzo’s leopard wants is blood. It doesn’t matter whose blood. Due to their upbringing, Alonzo and his leopard have a thirst for blood. The only time Alonzo’s leopard has ever been calm was the moment he walked into Evangeline’s bakery. For over a year he’s gone back to her bakery even though it threatens his life to have such a routine schedule. See, Alonzo has just taken control of a mafia family. He’s your complete anti-hero.

After a meeting with the crime bosses at Evangeline’s bakery, Alonzo learns that Evangeline is a leopard and it’s all over for both of them. Before he knew she was leopard, he may have been able to let her go, but not anymore. Her leopard is the only thing that calms his leopard and Evangeline settles him in a way that no one ever has. The problem is that Evangeline is terrified to be a part of a lair, which Alonzo realizes is exactly what he is head of. Between his brother and his cousins, Alonzo does have a lair and he can’t lie to Evangeline and tell her that he doesn’t have one.

I did like Leopard’s Fury and the uniqueness of both Evangeline and Alonzo. Evangeline in that she was so independent and didn’t take what Alonzo dictated lying down. She went through the choices in her head thoroughly and with a clearheaded for the most part. Alonzo was a mob boss, but it was a necessity, not something that he wanted to do. The last thing he ever wants to do is put Evangeline and their potential children in danger. I really felt both their plights and it did pull at me. Evangeline especially fought hard to decide if her feelings for Alonzo were worth the possible risks to their future children. If his leopard was a risk to their children. Another thing I liked about this book was that the sex didn’t come until the latter half of the book, so it wasn’t convoluted by sex, which Feehan books tend to be. Overall, a good read.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Excerpt

Son of a bitch.

I groan as I roll onto my back. I’d like to say this is the first time I’ve been knocked unconscious. I’d also like to say my boobs are the same size, but hey, such is my life.

Dirt. All I sense is that and dank heaviness that accompanies a . . . cave? Through the fog taking up residency along my brain, I make out a dim glow. It takes me a moment to realize it’s coming from my light-saber arm. I push up on my hands, grimacing when my fingers sink into the soil. Yet it’s what I see when I glance up that has me scrambling to my feet.

A lonely hand scuttles by me, chasing after a rat. Oh, but it gets better. I press my back against a dirt wall as a foot hops by, chasing after the hand, that’s chasing after the rat, with a decapitated head rolling —I shit you not—merrily behind them.

It’s like some kind of fucked up nursery rhyme. I don’t want to know the next verse, especially not with the collection of zombies gathering from all sides. These are different from the ones who pulled us onto shore. Their grisly faces are more emaciated and their bodies are in a more advance stage of decomposing. As they shuffle toward me, pieces of their skin fall in small moist clumps.

I hold out my hand. “Stay back.”

They collectively moan.

And move closer.

I grit my teeth, summoning that spark from deep in my core. The dank air seems to enclose around me, giving me a chill and snuffing out my inner heat.

Shit, shit, shit.

On wobbly legs, I slide my back against the dirt wall, my hands out. The zombies gather closer, cocking their heads, their empty sockets mesmerized by the glow of my arm. At first, I think they’re simply curious. But then their short thick tongues push forward, appearing to lick what’s left of their lips.

I jump when another hand scrambles by, its pinky brushing against my foot. My back presses against the dirt wall as I slide against it. I’m not sure where to go. I only know I can’t stay here.

I bang my fists against the wall, trying to stimulate my fire. My left hand doesn’t react, tensing uselessly. But that spark I so need triggers from my right arm, igniting flames along the path of my blue veins only to putter out.

Come on, light.
