New soul

Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.

No soul

Even Ana’s own mother thinks she’s a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she’ll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?

Heart

Sam believes Ana’s new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana’s enemies—human and creature alike—let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else’s life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?

Jodi Meadows expertly weaves soul-deep romance, fantasy, and danger into an extraordinary tale of new life.

What a lovely book, this one turned out to be.

I say that because it took a while for me to get into the story. When we first meet Ana, she’s really down on herself because its all she knows but as the story progressed and the closer Ana and Sam got to Heart, the more the story picked up until finally I was really enjoying it.

The journey to Heart revealed a lot to Ana about life outside of living with Li. You see, Ana was born into a world where people are reincarnated over and over again. Ana’s a new soul and so right off the bat, you know she’s different. She’s grown up thinking that she doesn’t have a soul and isn’t worthy of the good things in life so she’s only known the hard life that Li has raised her in. It’s hard to try to think any other way after it’s been beaten into you all your life but with Sam coming into her life, he’s changed it.

Oh how I adored Sam. I loved the way he was with Ana, the protective way that he was with her. He was so full of awesome that he made reading this book such a pleasure. Getting to know him was to love him and he made me so glad that I read this book. The way he helped Ana see things differently, feel differently just had me all agog over him.

Seeing Ana morph into a person of worth, someone who was worthy of life and everything life has to offer made for a great story. I loved seeing her come into her own and I really enjoyed the journey she went on, the people she met and the romance that was slow to build between her and Sam was just too cute for words.

Meadows did a fabulous job of telling this story. The world she created was refreshingly charming with a great mixture of fantasy and real life elements. It was an enjoyable ride and I’m so glad that I got to know both Ana and Sam along with the other characters in this book. They all banned together to make the story pop and even with the slow start, the middle and end made the journey more enjoyable.

..and that’s your scoop!
