Casee: Wow. Like Rowena, April was an incredibly busy month for me. Anytime I became overwhelmed, I turned to reading. I haven’t done that in a long time. It is something that makes this girl very happy. Seriously happy. I read 12 books, which is a record for me.

  1. Stars of Fortune (Stars Trilogy #1) by Nora Roberts | 3.75 out of 5
  2. Brotherhood in Death (In Death #42) by J.D. Robb | 4 out of 5
  3. Whatever it Takes (Grey Justice #2) by Christy Reece | 3.75 out of 5
  4. Blood Kiss (Black Dagger Legacy #1) by J.R. Ward | 4 out of 5
  5. Allegiance of Honor by Nalini Singh | 4.5 out of 5
  6. Troublemaker by Linda Howard | 4 out of 5
  7. The Beast by J.R. Ward | 4.25 out of 5
  8. White Lies by Linda Howard | re-read 3.75 out of 5
  9. Mackenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard | re-read 4.75 out of 5
  10. Alone in the Dark by Karen Rose | 4.5 out of 5
  11. Dark Promises by Christine Feehan | 2.5 out of 5
  12. The Obsession by Nora Roberts | 4.25 out of 5

My favorite book was Alone in the Dark by Karen Rose. There is just something about her writing that pulls you in and doesn’t spit you out until the very end. My least favorite was Dark Promises by Christine Feehan. It was perfectly awful.

Holly: I managed to read 11 books this month. Yes, I’m still in a slump. I wish I’d get over this. I want to read, I just don’t know what. I keep picking up books and setting them aside. It’s so frustrating.

  1. For You by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 3.5 out of 5
  2. Phoenix Reborn by J.D. Tyler | 3.5 out of 5
  3. On the Edge by Ilona Andrews | 3.75 out of 5
  4. Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews | 4.25 out of 5
  5. Troublemaker by Linda Howard | 4 out of 5
  6. Own the Wind by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5
  7. Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5
  8. Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews | 4 out of 5
  9. Magic Stars by Ilona Andrews | 4 out of 5
  10. Magic Tests by Ilona Andrews | 3.75 out of 5
  11. The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata | 3.75 out of 5

My favorite reads of the month were Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews and Troublemaker by Linda Howard. I didn’t love Troublemaker as much as I’ve loved some of Howard’s book in the past, but it was so much better than some of her more recent releases. Bayou Moon was so great. I loved Cerise and William.

My least favorite read was probably The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. I didn’t dislike it at all, it just wasn’t as good as the others I read.

Rowena: April was a busy month for me and I didn’t feel much like reading for a lot of the month so my reading numbers are way down. Between how busy work was, getting sick for a bit and then all of Brenna’s basketball stuff on top of Relay for Life…it just didn’t leave a lot of time to read so I only read 8 books in the entire month. Yikes!

  1. The Natural History of Us (Fine Art of Pretending #2) by Rachel Harris | 3.75 out of 5
  2. Paper Princess (The Royals #1) by Erin Watt | 4 out of 5
  3. Branded by Fire (Psy-Changelings #6) by Nalini Singh | 4.5 out of 5
  4. Blaze of Memory (Psy-Changelings #7) by Nalini Singh | 3.5 out of 5
  5. Own the Wind (Chaos #1) by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 3.75 out of 5
  6. Summer of Sloane by Erin L. Schneider | 3.5 out of 5
  7. Sidebarred (Legal Briefs #3.5) by Emma Chase | 5 out of 5
  8. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson | 3.75 out of 5

My favorite read of the month is hands down Sidebarred by Emma Chase. It was a novella so there wasn’t a lot of page time to wow me but she did and I loved seeing Jake, Chelsea and the gang again. It was cute, fun and steamy and everything I love in contemporary romances. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

My least favorite read of the month is probably Blaze of Memory by Nalini Singh. It wasn’t a bad book but its probably the book that I enjoyed the least. It took me a long time to read that book, Katya and Dev frustrated me for a good chunk of the book but I did cry like a baby toward the end so the book was good, just not my favorite.

This month we’re giving away:

Sidebarred by Emma Chase
Alone in the Dark by Karen Rose
Troublemaker by Linda Howard

Monthly Reads: March 2016

Posted April 7, 2016 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

MR-New

Holly: I had a pretty sad reading month. Things are crazy for me right now and I’ve had very little time to dedicate to reading.

  1. Uncovered by Linda Winfree (re-read) | 3.5 out of 5
  2. The Return of Eden McCall by Judith Duncan (re-read) | 4 out of 5
  3. Gone From Me by Linda Winfree | 4 out of 5
  4. White Tiger by Jennifer Ashley | 4 out of 5
  5. Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5
  6. Allegiance of Honor by Nalini Singh | 4.25 out of 5
  7. Fall Into Me by Linda Winfree (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5
  8. Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.25 out of 5
  9. Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews | 4.25 out of 5

Not including re-reads, my favorite read of the month was a toss up between Magic Breaks, Gone from Me and Allegiance of Honor. All three were wonderful and I’m hard pressed to pick one over the others.

My least favorite read was probably Uncovered, but I didn’t dislike it. It just wasn’t quite as good as the others I read.

Rowena: March was a really good reading month for me. I got a lot of reading done and I’m pretty excited about that. Here’s what I read:

  1. After the Kiss (Sex, Love & Stilettos #1) by Lauren Layne | 4 out of 5
  2. Love the One You’re With (Sex, Love & Stilettos #2) by Lauren Layne | 4 out of 5
  3. Just One Night (Sex, Love & Stilettos #3) by Lauren Layne | 3.5 out of 5
  4. The Trouble with Love (Sex, Love & Stilettos #4) by Lauren Layne | 4 out of 5
  5. Once and Always (Sequels #2) by Judith McNaught (re-read) | 4 out of 5
  6. Because of Miss Bridgerton (Rokesby #1) by Julia Quinn | 4 out of 5
  7. Nobody but You (Cedar Ridge #3) by Jill Shalvis | 4 out of 5
  8. All Chained Up (Devils Rock #1) by Sophie Jordan | 4 out of 5
  9. Ignite (Wildwood #1) by Karen Erickson | 4 out of 5
  10. Undecided by Julianna Keyes | 4 out of 5
  11. This One Moment (Pushing Limits #1) by Stina Lindenblatt | 2 out of 5
  12. Dirty (Dive Bar #1) by Kylie Scott | 4 out of 5
  13. Eight Ways to Ecstasy (Art of Passion #2) by Jeanette Grey | 4 out of 5
  14. The Earl Takes All (Hellions of Havisham #2) by Lorraine Heath | 4.5 out of 5
  15. The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata | 4 out of 5
  16. Calling It by Jen Doyle | 2.75 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to The Earl Takes All by Lorraine Heath. This book surprised me. I wasn’t expecting to love it since the story itself is complicated and I wasn’t looking forward to losing one of the characters that I liked in the first book. But Edward and Julia’s story hit me in the feels and I sighed, I cried and I loved every minute.

My least favorite book of the month goes to This One Moment by Stina Lindenblatt. I couldn’t connect with either the hero or the heroine and they drove me right up the wall at every turn then when it was done, I still didn’t really care for either character. The story as a whole didn’t grab me and I was glad to have moved on after it was done.

This month we’re giving away:

The Earl Takes All by Lorraine Heath
Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews

Monthly Reads: February 2016

Posted March 8, 2016 by Rowena in Features | 7 Comments

MR-New

Holly: February was a good reading month for me numbers-wise, but I didn’t read many new books. Things have been crazy here so I’ve been re-reading more than anything else.

  1. Angels’ Dance by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 3.5/5
  2. Angels’ Judgment by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 3.75/5
  3. Angels’ Pawn by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 3.75/5
  4. Angels’ Blood by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 4.25/5
  5. Archangel’s Kiss by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 4.25/5
  6. Weapons Training by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 3.5/5
  7. Archangel’s Consort by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 4.25/5
  8. Archangel’s Storm by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 4/5
  9. Zoe’s Workshop by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 3.5/5
  10. Archangel’s Legion by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 4.25/5
  11. A Sip of Eternity by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 3.5/5
  12. Archangel’s Shadows by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 4.25/5
  13. Archangel’s Enigma by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 4.25/5
  14. Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.5/5
  15. Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4/5
  16. Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.25/5
  17. Fair Game by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4/5
    18. Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.25/5
  18. Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4/5
  19. Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.5/5
  20. Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4/5
  21. Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4.25/5
  22. River Marked by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4/5
  23. Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4/5
  24. Shifting Shadows by Patricia Briggs (re-read) | 4/5
  25. Before I Fall by Jessica Scott | 3.5/5
  26. Fire Bound by Christine Feehan | 3.75/5

As you can see, I binge-read Briggs and Singh. I was in the mood for UF and they fit the bill.  The only two new books I read were Before I Fall by Jessica Scott and Fire Bound by Christine Feehan. I enjoyed both, though the Scott shredded me. She always gets me in the feels.  I didn’t really have a least favorite this month, since pretty much all my reads were re-reads.

Rowena: February was a good reading month for me. I started the month off with some great reading but ended the month with three books that I wanted to like more than I actually did.

  1. Unraveled (Woodlands #3) by Jen Frederick | 4 out of 5
  2. Unrequited (Woodlands #4) by Jen Frederick | 4 out of 5
  3. Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega #2) by Patricia Briggs | 4.25 out of 5
  4. Fair Game (Alpha & Omega #3) by Patricia Briggs | 4.25 out of 5
  5. I Wish You Were Mine (Oxford #2) by Lauren Layne | 4.25 out of 5
  6. Blurred Lines by Lauren Layne | 3.5 out of 5
  7. Nowhere But Here (Thunder Road #1) by Katie McGarry | 4 out of 5
  8. Walk the Edge (Thunder Road #2) by Katie McGarry | 3 out of 5
  9. Sweet Seduction by Daire St. Denis | 2 out of 5
  10. Fully Ignited (Boston Fire #3) by Shannon Stacey | 3.5 out of 5
  11. The CEO’s Unexpected Child by Andrea Laurence | 2 out of 5
  12. The Forbidden Temptation by Anne Mather | 1 out of 5

My favorite read of the month is probably a tie between Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs and I Wish You Were Mine by Lauren Layne. Both books were great and I’m anxious to get some more books by those authors read. Dead Heat is the next book in the Alpha & Omega series and it’s Holly’s favorite book in the series so I’m looking forward to reading that this month and I’m super anxious for Lincoln’s book, which is the next book in the Oxford series by Lauren Layne. So much to look forward to!

My least favorite read of the month is The Forbidden Temptation by Anne Mather. The book dragged and dragged for such a short book. It didn’t really do a thing for me so I was glad to be done with that one but it’s been days since I finished it and I haven’t been able to read anything else. I hope it didn’t break my reading mojo.

This month we’re giving away:

I Wish You Were Mine by Lauren Layne
Any book from Holly’s list (I’m not going to choose one since I mostly re-read). Digital only.

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Also, be sure to tell us what book you’re interested in winning. You can put your name in for more than one book, but you’ll only be allowed to win one, so choose wisely.

Monthly Reads: January 2016

Posted February 15, 2016 by Rowena in Features, Giveaways | 7 Comments

MR-New

Rowena: January was a great reading month for me. I’m actually pretty proud of the fact that I read a good chunk of books from my TBR pile. This just might be the year that I actually make a dent in that sucker. Yay me!

Here is what I read in January:

  1. My Kind of Wonderful (Cedar Ridge #2) by Jill Shalvis | 3 out of 5
  2. Alpha & Omega (Alpha & Omega #0.5) by Patricia Briggs | 4.5 out of 5
  3. Cry Wolf (Alpha and Omega #1) by Patricia Briggs | 4 out of 5
  4. The Score (Off-Campus #3) by Elle Kennedy | 4.5 out of 5
  5. My American Duchess by Eloisa James | 4 out of 5
  6. Midnight Captive (Killer Instincts #6) by Elle Kennedy | 4 out of 5
  7. Midnight Revenge (Killer Instincts #7) by Elle Kennedy | 4 out of 5
  8. Against the Wall by Jill Sorenson | 4 out of 5
  9. Dare to Run (Sons of Steel Row #1) by Jen McLaughlin | DNF
  10. Roommates by Erin Leigh | 4.25 out of 5
  11. Jock Blocked (Gridiron #2) by Jen Frederick | 4.75 out of 5
  12. The Charlotte Chronicles (Jackson Boys #1) by Jen Frederick | 4 out of 5
  13. Before I Fall (Falling #1) by Jessica Scott | 4 out of 5
  14. Appealed (Legal Briefs #3) by Emma Chase | 4.5 out of 5
  15. Irresistibly Yours (Oxford #1) by Lauren Layne | 4.25 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to Jock Blocked by Jen Frederick because it was such a great read. Entertaining, great characters and a steamy romance? There was a lot to love about that book. Matty and Lucy were a great couple and I’m really loving the world that Frederick has created for this series. I’m mighty interested in seeing where she takes it.

My least favorite read of the month is one that I DNF’d. Dare to Run by Jen McLaughlin was something that I thought I could get into but I got about a third into it before I gave up because the heroine made me roll my eyes all the way to San Francisco and the hero wasn’t any better. It just didn’t work for me so I gave up.

This month you get just me. Holly didn’t read much last month so she doesn’t have much to add to this month’s Monthly Reads post.

This month, we’re giving away:

Jock Blocked by Jen Frederick

Monthly Reads: December 2015

Posted January 13, 2016 by Rowena in Features | 22 Comments

MR-New

Rowena: With the holidays and end of the year madness, it’s not a surprise that I didn’t get a lot of books read. But here’s what I did read in December 2015.

  1. Controlled Burn (Boston Fire #2) by Shannon Stacey | 4 out of 5
  2. Dirty Deeds (Mechanics of Love #3) by Megan Erickson | 4 out of 5
  3. Saving Grace (Love Under the Big Sky #2.5) by Kristen Proby | 2.75 out of 5
  4. Did I Mention I Love You? (DIMILY #1) by Estelle Maskame | 1 out of 5
  5. Dukes Prefer Blondes (Dressmakers #4) by Loretta Chase | 4.75 out of 5
  6. Lord Dashwood Missed Out (Spindle Cove #4.5) by Tessa Dare | 3.75 out of 5
  7. Scorched (Frigid #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout | 2.5 out of 5
  8. The Deal (Off-Campus #1) by Elle Kennedy (re-read) | 5 out of 5
  9. The Mistake (Off-Campus #2) by Elle Kennedy (re-read) | 4.5 out of 5

My favorite read of the month Dukes Prefer Blondes by Loretta Chase. I loved the hero and the heroine, the dry humor and the romance. Everything about both Oliver and Lady Clara worked for me, even Oliver’s obnoxious, always has to be right and snooty attitude toward everyone. I loved how he thought he was smarter than everyone and how Lady Clara called him on every little thing. Their story was fun, funny and charmed the socks right off of me.

My least favorite book was hands down, Did I Mention I Love You? by Estelle Maskame. The romance in that book drove me up the wall just as much as the main character and the love interest did. After finishing this book, I started wondering if maybe I’m getting over my love of YA contemporary romances. I’m starting to get pissed at the shit choices these young folks keep making. shrugs I guess we’ll see.

Holly: I read 14 books in December, but the majority were re-reads.

  1. Saving Grace by Julie Garwood (re-read) | 5/5
  2. Honor’s Splendour by Julie Garwood (re-read) | 5/5
  3. Lord of Scoundrels (re-read) | 5/5
  4. The Friend Zone by Kristen Callihan (re-read) | 4.5/5
  5. Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley (re-read) | 4.5/5
  6. Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh (re-read) | 4.5/5
  7. The Deal by Elle Kennedy (re-read) | 4.5/5
  8. Liam Takes Manhattan by Thea Harrison | 3.5/5
  9. The Legend of Lyon Redmond by Julie Anne Long (re-read) | 4.5/5
  10. Soul of Smoke by Caitlyn McFarland | 3/5
  11. Coming Back by Lauren Dane | 3.75/5
  12. Truth of Embers by Caityln McFarland | 4/5
  13. Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs | 4.5/5
  14. The Score by Elle Kennedy | 4/5

Of the six new books I read, Fire Touched and The Score were my favorites. I was so angry at Adam at the end of Night Broken, but by the 1/4 mark of Fire Touched I was no longer mad at him. I didn’t expect to love Dean as much as I did in The Score. Kennedy has done such a fabulous job with that series.

My least favorite read was Soul of Smoke. I really liked the world, but the heroine drove me batty.

This month we’re giving away:

Dukes Prefer Blondes by Loretta Chase
The Score by Elle Kennedy (digital format only)
