Critically acclaimed author Mia Sosa delivers a sassy, steamy enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy about a wedding planner whose new job opportunity forces her to work side-by-side with the best man who ruined her own nuptials: her ex-fiancé's infuriating, irritating, annoyingly handsome brother. Perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory, Helen Hoang, and Sally Thorne!

A wedding planner left at the altar. Yeah, the irony isn’t lost on Carolina Santos, either. But despite that embarrassing blip from her past, Lina’s managed to make other people’s dreams come true as a top-tier wedding coordinator in DC. After impressing an influential guest, she’s offered an opportunity that could change her life. There’s just one hitch… she has to collaborate with the best (make that worst) man from her own failed nuptials.

Tired of living in his older brother’s shadow, marketing expert Max Hartley is determined to make his mark with a coveted hotel client looking to expand its brand. Then he learns he’ll be working with his brother’s whip-smart, stunning—absolutely off-limits—ex-fiancée. And she loathes him.

If they can survive the next few weeks and nail their presentation without killing each other, they’ll both come out ahead. Except Max has been public enemy number one ever since he encouraged his brother to jilt the bride, and Lina’s ready to dish out a little payback of her own.

But even the best laid plans can go awry, and soon Lina and Max discover animosity may not be the only emotion creating sparks between them. Still, this star-crossed couple can never be more than temporary playmates because Lina isn’t interested in falling in love and Max refuses to play runner-up to his brother ever again...

The Worst Best Man is the first book that I’ve read by Mia Sosa and it won’t be my last. This was a hate to love romance that I was looking forward to digging into and while it was good, I struggled with parts of the story.

So Lina was all set to marry Andrew but the night before the wedding, Drew decides that marriage to Lina isn’t for him so he leaves Lina at the altar and has his brother Max break the news since he was the reason Drew came to this decision. Drew sounds like such a delight, huh? eye rolls So Max delivers the news, Lina is rightfully hurt so they part ways. Ten years later, Lina has made a name for herself in the wedding planning world and she’s got a shot at working exclusively with a big hotel but when she shows up at her meeting, Max and Drew are there as well. She’s got to choose who to work with and she, of course, chooses to work with Max.

Seeing these two reunited was where I struggled with the story. I struggled with all of the pranks, I struggled with Lina’s attitude toward everything, especially because I felt like she was pissed off at the wrong person and I just couldn’t connect with the romance because of all that. I wanted Lina to be more mature about everything, to show both Max and Drew that she was better above stupid pranks. I did really enjoy her family though. They were such a great bunch. I also enjoyed getting to know Max and was glad that he was able to just take everything in stride.

Overall, the story was good and though I could have done without a bunch of different things, I didn’t hate this book. I liked Lina though I struggled with her character at times, I really enjoyed Max. He was probably my favorite part of the book. There was enough there to let me know that Mia Sosa is an author that I’d like to read more of so I’m giving this one 3.5 out 5 stars.

PRETENDING HE’S MINE by Mia Sosa

Chapter One

A woman in my condo is experiencing a toe-curling orgasm—and to my knowledge, this is the first time I’m in no way responsible for it.

Because this dumpster fire needs more tinder, the person bringing herself pleasure within the confines of my not-so-humble abode is my best friend’s younger sister.

I’d prefer to sustain a thousand paper cuts than listen to her moans, the catch of her breath, the rustling of the sheets around her body. But she’s crashing at my place, and she left the door of the guest bedroom open—just a tiny, torturous crack. The sliver of soft light coming from the adjoining bathroom beckons like a portal to another world. Come, the deep, booming voice of James Earl Jones says. The embodiment of your hidden and fucked-up fantasies lies in this realm.

I squeeze my eyes shut. Dammit. This isn’t right. It’s a personal moment, and I shouldn’t be privy to it. Summoning what’s left of the self-control that’s served me well for more years than I’d care to admit, I turn away from the light and slink down the short hall to my kitchen. There, I refit my wireless headphones and find a tall glass for the water that brought me out of my room.

I’d resigned myself to remaining as far away from Ashley as possible while she stayed the night. Instead, an innocent trip to the fridge has left me thirsty for something else altogether. I’m not even sure why I took off my headphones as I passed her room. But I did. And now I know what she sounds like when she comes.

I need to shut down this line of thinking immediately. But hell, the portal is open, and despite my good intentions, I’m tempted to step through and explore this other world.

No. I shouldn’t. I really shouldn’t.

Picture her in pigtails and remember what it was like to help her stand after an epic fall on the bike she loved to ride.

Forget that she’s now a sexy woman, and banish any inappropriate thoughts about her to a parallel universe that will never intersect with this one.

Although temporary, the solution is simple. Fifty push-ups will round out my workout and help stifle my libido. With my get-over-my-lust-for-Ashley plan in place, I set the glass in the sink, cut the light switch, and spin around. A warm body skids into me, its owner’s soft mouth brushing against my bare shoulder.

She shrinks back and yelps.

Instinctively, I tug Ashley forward, steadying her and mentally unbalancing myself in the process. With my chest flush against hers, I try to memorize the way we fit together, greedy to gain something from this unexpected contact.

“Julian? Please tell me it’s you.”

The tremor in her voice pulls me out of my stupor. I breathe heavily through my nose as I drop my arms and step back slowly. Turning to the counter and grasping it for support, I eke out, “It’s me, Ashley.”

As she sighs in relief, the memory of her curves imprints itself in my brain like a freshly inked intricate tattoo, simultaneously mesmerizing and painful.

Fuck the fifty push-ups. I’m going to need a hundred.

“Thanks for the save,” Carter says as we walk back to the opposite end of the bar. “I would have been fine, but having a fight in Aruba is not my idea of a relaxing vacation.”

It hits me then. Carter lives in an alternate universe where skinny men overpower guys twice their size simply by force of will. The guy continues to stare at us despite his girlfriend’s efforts to engage him in conversation until she grabs him by the chin to redirect his gaze toward her. But seconds later, when I peek behind Carter, Greg’s again preoccupied with Carter and me, likely wondering if we’ve tricked him out of a fight he clearly wanted to have.

“So that didn’t go as planned,” Carter continues.

“Carter, be serious for a minute. That guy’s going to be on you the entire vacation if you don’t convince him you truly had no designs on his girlfriend.”

“Well, I didn’t.”

“Yes, you did, and he’s looking for a reason to make you pay for it.”

“And what do you suppose I do about that?”

I’m going to regret this. It’s a bad idea, yes, but I don’t want the remaining two days of my supposedly stress-free vacation to be affected by the Hulk. And I don’t want Carter’s mug pulverized. It’s a nice face, and it’s growing on me. “Kiss me.”

Carter shakes his head as though the idea is ludicrous. “What?”

Oh, for God’s sake. “Kiss me, Carter.” I jab my finger into his chest. “And make it look like you can’t get enough of me. Our audience is watching.”

Carter’s gaze darts to my mouth, and then he peers at me as he bites his bottom lip. After he puffs out a harsh breath, he asks, “You sure about this?”

“Just do it already,” I say through clenched teeth.

After a moment’s hesitation, Carter springs into action, closing the space between us and sliding his hand around my waist so that we’re chest to chest. He reaches under my hair and cups my neck, his fingers gently coaxing me to tilt my head upward. The tenderness with which he’s approaching this charade roots me to the spot. My brain, on the other hand, is running like a turbocharged engine. Will a single peck be enough? Should I touch him? If I moan, will Greg and his girlfriend hear me?

None of this contemplation matters, though, because I float away into a dream state when Carter presses his lips to mine. Oh, they’re so soft. And warm. Oh God, they’re fuzzy-socks-on-a-frigid-day warm. And I’ve never kissed a man with a beard. The brush of it against my cheek makes me think of frantic sex, the kind where neither person takes the time to remove their clothes completely. I gasp against his mouth, and he slips his tongue inside, the contact that much more startling because he’s simultaneously drawing small circles against the nape of my neck with a single finger. A random thought penetrates the haze: Greg can’t see Carter’s finger. Oh, but I can feel it, so it must be just for me.

My arms hang at my sides. I make several attempts to place my hands somewhere on Carter’s body as he presses butterfly kisses against my lips and jawline, but nothing feels right. “Did you know the average person will spend more than twenty thousand minutes kissing during their life?” I squeeze my eyes shut after I share that fun fact. Dammit, when did I become this awkward?

Carter smiles against my neck. “That’s a lot of kissing.”
