Book Watch: Misguided Angel by Melissa De La Cruz.

Posted July 9, 2010 by Rowena in Promotions | 5 Comments

Another book that I’m pretty anxious to get my hands on is the fifth book in the Blue Bloods series by Melissa De La Cruz. The book is titled, Misguided Angel.

Check out the cover:

And now on to the blurb:

After inheriting the dark Van Alen Legacy, Schuyler fled to Florence–with her forbidden love, Jack. Now the two of them must embark on the mission Schuyler was destined to complete: to find and protect the seven gates that guard earth from Lucifer, lord of the Silverbloods.

As the Blue Blood enclave weakens yet further, fate leads Schuyler closer to a terrifying crossroads–and a choice that will determine the destiny of all vampires.

Sounds like it’s going to be another winner and I cannot frickin’ wait to get my hands on this book! With Schuyler and Jack on a journey together (for once) and Oliver heartbroken and alone, I’m dying to know what happens. Does Ollie find his own girl? What happens with Jack and Schuyler? What about Kingsley, does he come back from where he is right now? Why the heck does Kingsley fall for Mimi of all people? Why does Mimi, the hoe-cake get a happy ending? The questions are endless…and I must know so that is why this book is on my radar.

The release date is October 26, 2010 and I’ve got ants in my pants and I want to do a boogie dance but I’ll save that for the week before…hehe.

So tell me, who is as anxious as I am for this book? Anyone? Is anyone Team Oliver out there besides Haven, I guess? =P

Posted June 25, 2010 by Rowena in Promotions | 6 Comments

Over at my adult book blog, Book Binge, we do book watches of book that are on our radars that we can’t wait for and I’m going to be doing that feature over here as well. I can never keep a set schedule so I’m just going to keep it spontaneous and do it here whenever the mood strikes. It’s kind of like Waiting on Wednesday, only I do one whenever I remember, can, feel like it. =)

Today, I’m posting about The Keys to the Repository by Melissa De La Cruz.

This book comes out on Tuesday and I’m super anxious to get a copy. I just finished reading the entire Blue Bloods series up to date last week and everything is so fresh in my mind. I’m addicted to the series and while I understand that Keys to the Repository isn’t Book 5, I still want to read the goodness that I know will be in this book.

Check out the cover:

Kinda creepy but intriguing at the same time.

Me likey!

Check out the product description as well:

Lavish parties. Passionate meetings in the night. Bone-chilling murders. Midterms. The day-to-day life of Schuyler Van Alen and her Blue Bloods friends (and enemies) is never boring. But there’s oh-so-much more to know about these beautiful and powerful teens. Below the streets of Manhattan, within the walls of the Repository, exists a wealth of revealing information about the vampire elite that dates back before the Mayflower. In a series of short stories, journal entries, and never-before-seen letters, New York Times bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz gives her hungry fans the keys to the Repository and an even more in-depth look into the secret world of the Blue Bloods.

Review: The Van Alen Legacy by Melissa De La Cruz

Posted June 21, 2010 by Rowena in Reviews | 4 Comments

Genres: Paranormal Romance

Main Character: Schuyler Van Alen
Series:
Blue Bloods, Book 4

With the stunning revelation surrounding Bliss’s true identity comes the growing threat of the sinister Silver Bloods. Once left to live the glamorous life in New York City, the Blue Bloods now find themselves in an epic battle for survival. Not to worry; love is still in the air for the young vampires of the Upper East Side. Or is it? Schuyler has made her choice. She has forsaken Jack for Oliver, choosing human over vampire. But old loves die hard…And even coldhearted Mimi seems to suffer from the ties that bind.

Young vampires unite in this highly anticipated fourth installment of the New York Times best-selling series.

This is the latest installment of the Blue Bloods series and like the other books, I enjoyed it.

There was a whole lot of action, a whole lot of OMGWTH? kind of things popping off in this book and it made for one heck of an enjoyable ride.

In this book, everything with Bliss comes to light and we see Schuyler on the run from the vamps in New York with Oliver. She’s been gone for a year and her and Oliver are hard at work trying to clear her name. She’s all alone in the world now except for Oliver. Her grandma and grandpa are gone, her mother is still in a coma but she’s got Oliver.

She doesn’t have Jack though and while she is still madly in love with him, she doesn’t have him anymore because she ended it and Jack is going to bond with Mimi.

Her life is in shambles and she doesn’t think it can get any worse…but they do because the Silver Bloods are now on the hunt for some Schuyler and they want her gone because like Grandpa Lawrence said, Schuyler was going to be the salvation of the Blue Bloods. Or, she was going to be the one to rid the earth of all of those no good Silver Bloods so it’s no wonder they want her dead and gone.

It’s been a year since she’s been on the run going from one place to another, never settling in for too long. Always on the move and the toll its taken on her and on Oliver is starting to wear thin. Oliver has been the ever faithful best friend, always there for her is just too bleeping sweet. I heart Ollie.

They’ve got one final chance to clear Schuyler’s name but before they can meet with the leader, Jack pops back into the picture and throws Schuyler’s entire world off its rocker. They’re battling the Silver Bloods together and Schuyler finds herself back in New York and things are even more crazy than ever.

The emotions are high in this book, I was happy, excited, sad and hurt for most of the characters. Everything from Schuyler and Oliver and then Schuyler and Jack, Mimi and Kingsley (whoa buddy did this one come out of the wood works but it was still good stuff) and then Bliss and Dylan. Reading this book was like riding a roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain. It took you up, down and round and round. I enjoyed it a lot!

Jack is back and he’s different. Things between him and Schuyler are still as crazy as ever. They still love the hell out of each other even though it’s been a whole year since they’ve seen each other and with Oliver in the picture, it was hard for Schuyler to do anything about her feelings for Jack because she doesn’t want to hurt Oliver. It was just one big ol’ pot of ugly. My heart went out to Oliver and I found myself softening toward Jack for some unexplainable reason. In the first few books, I liked Jack but I didn’t exactly love him.

In this book, I liked him a great deal but part of my heart still belongs to Oliver. Schuyler and her indecisiveness made me want to choke her out but in the end, I got over it.

If you’re a fan of this series then you’re going to enjoy this book. It answers a lot of questions but also rises some new ones. You won’t want to miss out.

Final Grade: B

Review: Revelations by Melissa De La Cruz

Posted June 17, 2010 by Rowena in Reviews | 5 Comments

Genres: Paranormal Romance

Main Character: Schuyler Van Alen
Series:
Blue Bloods, Book 3

Have you ever wondered what secrets lurk behind the closed doors of New York City’s wealthiest families? They’re powerful, they’re famous… they’re undead.

Schuyler Van Alen’s blood legacy has just been called into question – is the young vampire in fact a Blue Blood, or is it the sinister Silver Blood that runs through her veins? As controversy swirls, Schuyler is left stranded in the Force household, trapped under the same roof as her cunning nemesis, Mimi Force, and her forbidden crush, Jack Force.

When one of the Gates of Hell is breached by Silver Bloods in Rio de Janeiro, however, the Blue Bloods will need Schuyler on their side. The stakes are high; the battle is bloody; and through it all, Carnavale rages on. And in the end, one vampire’s secret identity will be exposed in a revelation that shocks everyone.

Melissa De La Cruz has done it again! I can’t believe how fast it took me to read this book. I’m not going to tell you about all of the drama that I went through to read this book. Oh well, okay I’ll tell you…I finished Masquerade at work and so I came home and watched the Laker game (I couldn’t miss the Laker game even for Jack Force) and then after the Laker game, I went over to my shelf to look for Revelations. It’s not there. Not a big deal, it must be on my shelves upstairs.

Only, it’s not.

Ugh.

I tear my house looking for it but it’s nowhere to be found. By now, it’s after 11pm and you’d think I’d give up but I’m on a mission. I go outside to my car and search through my car and still I find nothing. I walk back into my house, frustrated beyond relief and it’s now almost 11:30pm and I’m pouting because the bookstore is closed and I can’t go get another copy. I’m texting my friend Theresa to see if maybe I didn’t take the book from her house like I thought I did but she doesn’t have it and then just before I’m about to give up, I remember that my other friend B Nice read the book. So at 11:36pm, I texted her.

And at11:42pm, I jump into my car and drive to B Nice’s house to pick up the book just so that I can read it.

I got home a little after midnight and read until almost 3:30am. I went to bed that night, one happy camper. And yes, Theresa created a monster. I know this.

Anyway, on with the review. This book was a trip because there was so many things going on. Lawrence lost custody of Schuyler because Charles Force is a bitter old fart. So she’s got to move in with the Forces. She’s got to live with the girl who almost tried to kill her and her forbidden crush. It couldn’t have been easy for her, to be uprooted from all that she knew and dropped into the one place that she would never want to go to. She couldn’t talk to her best friend and she never felt more alone than she did.

Watching Schuyler deal with everything that was thrown at her was at sometimes hard to get through. I felt bad for her but then she would do things that would get on my nerves as well. I can’t stand the whole Oliver/Schuyler/Jack because I really love Oliver. For most of the entire series, I’ve loved Oliver more because he was SO good to Schuyler. He was fiercely loyal to her and passionately in love with her. I hate that he kept getting the short end of the stick.

Every time Schuyler would say that she didn’t want to hurt Oliver, I would say, “Then don’t.” But her indecisiveness got on my nerves but because there was so many other things popping off, I didn’t dwell too much on the whole love triangle thing.

This book sure did pack a massive adventure between the two covers and for the most part, I enjoyed it. The way that everything connects to everyone made me trip out because talk about small world. The vampires put small world into a whole other catagory but seeing everything come together in this book was interesting.

I still hate the ever living daylights out of Mimi but I’m softening toward Jack even though I can’t really tell you why. I love the hell out of Kingsley and I’m starting to become indifferent to Bliss. I still love Ollie to pieces too. Awww Ollie.

If you haven’t tried this series out, you should. It’s a great way to spend a few hours, getting to know these characters, falling into this world. It’s a good time, kudos to De La Cruz for creating a world that I don’t mind falling into every chance I get.

Review: Masquerade by Melissa De La Cruz.

Posted June 16, 2010 by Rowena in Reviews | 2 Comments

Genres: Paranormal Romance

Main Character: Schuyler Van Alen
Series:
Blue Bloods, Book 2

Schuyler van Alen wants an explanation for the mysterious deaths of young vampires. With her best friend, Oliver, Schuyler travels to Italy in the hope of finding the one man who can help – her grandfather. Meanwhile, back in New York, preparations are feverishly under way for the Four Hundred Ball, an exclusive gala hosted by the city’s wealthy, powerful, and unhuman- a true Blue Bloods affair.

But it’s at the after-party, a masquerade ball thrown by the cunning Mimi Force, that the real danger lurks. Hidden behind the masks is a revelation that will forever change the course of a young vampire’s destiny.

Rich with glamour, attitude, and vampire lore, this second installment in the Blue Bloods saga will leave readers thirsting for more.

Melissa De La Cruz knocked it out of the park with this latest addition to the Blue Bloods series. My friend Theresa has seriously created a monster when she told me about these books. I read this book in one day. I was an hour late for work because I had to know what was going to happen in this book and now that I’m finished with it, I’m dying to know who the Silver Blood is.

So many things pop off over the course of this book and if you’re a lesser person it might get overwhelming but me? I ate.it.all.up. I couldn’t get enough of this book and while I like Jack a little more…do I think he’s good enough for our Schuyler?

Not by a long shot.

His relationship with Mimi gets in the way of my wanting him to get with Schuyler and while we’re talking about him getting with Schuyler, did I miss something?

Because, it hasn’t been that long since he bumped into her at the club and though it feels like forever ago since he kissed her so passionately, I’m not getting how he’s in love with her. I mean, that kind of felt forced and might be why I’m not totally sold on him and Schuyler yet. I can understand him being infatuated with her, being mighty intrigued by her and hell even in lust with her but love? I’m not seeing that. But as much as that stumped me, I hecka loved this book.

My heart soared, my heart broke and I fell a little more in love with these characters. From Schuyler to Oliver (awww Ollie) to Bliss and Dylan. These guys totally rock my socks and I cannot wait for more from this series. I absolutely adore this series and could not pimp it out enough.

It’s a great story that will have you totally dying for more so pick this book up and read it already but start with Blue Bloods first.

Trust me, you have to read these books!
