What Are You Reading? (407)

Casee: I’m reading nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Year One by NR has been out for ten days and I still haven’t read one page. This time of year kills me. Oh and speaking of Year One, I am so embarrassed by my post “alerting” everyone that it was “free” on Amazon. I hope you all forgive my for my lameness. In my excitement I didn’t do enough research. Obviously.

Holly: I was on vacation this week which means I finally had some good reading time. I read Man Hands by Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby. It was cute. Light and fluffy. A good vacation read. Burn Bright by Patricia Briggs was fabulous. I adore Charles and Anna and I was so glad to get back to them. I’m just sorry it ended. Judgement Road by Christine Feehan was super dark and gritty. I tend to stay away from the darker MC romances because they aren’t my cuppa. I thought, based on her other books set in this world (this is a spin-off of her Drake Sisters/Sea Haven/Sisters of the Heart series), the book would go in a different direction. There were all kinds of Triggers in the book. I almost DNF’d it at one point because it was so graphic, and I’m not one to walk away for that.

I also did some re-reading. Kinked by Thea Harrison, Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh (currently free at Amazon!!) and Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase.

Rowena: It’s been a pretty quiet week for me so I tackled some of the books that I needed to read so I’m happy about that. I finished North to You by Tif Marcelo and that book was cute. I don’t think I liked it as much as everyone else did but it was still an enjoyable read and then after that, I tackled my book club read of the month. I read An English Bride in Scotland by Lynsay Sands and that was another enjoyable book though it wasn’t my favorite book we’ve read as a book club this year. Now, I’m reading The Matchmaker’s Playbook by Rachel van Dyken for my buddy review with Ames. So far, it’s okay. I’m struggling with the way that the hero thinks. I want to punch him in the nose right now because he’s hot and he knows it and he’s really conceited. I can’t wait for him to do like Kendrick Lamar and…be humble because right now this bitch needs to sit down.

What Are You Reading? (406)

Casee: I am on a road trip at this very moment. For some reason my husband never lets me drive. That works for me because me not driving = me reading! I have Year One to read which is the new Nora Roberts book. I’ve been waiting for it since I first saw it on Amazon at the beginning of the summer. The blurb is amazing. Hopefully I’ll be able to get through a big chunk of the book.

Holly: This week I read a bunch of new-to-me short stories from Kristen Ashley I discovered while browsing Goodreads. Merry and Bright, More Pleasure Than Pain, Valentinos, Every Year and Law Man Short Story. I was especially excited about Merry and Bright because it tells the story of how Elvira met Malik. I re-read Moon Craving by Lucy Monroe. Chantal from Breezing Through and I reviewed it together several years ago. I asked if she’d be willing to read it with me to see if we still feel the same about it all these years later. Look for that discussion soon. I also re-read The Return of Eden McCall by Judith Duncan, a book I re-read every year. It’s dated, but I adore it.

This week I’m determined to read some new books and not just re-read old stuff. Wish me luck?

Rowena: Lots of stuff was going on for me this week so I didn’t get nearly as much reading done as I would have liked. Oh well. That’s my life, for ya. I finished Love, Life and the List by Kasie West and started North to You by Tif Marcelo. I’m almost done with that book and then after this, I plan on picking up Complicated by Kristen Ashley and An English Bride in Scotland by Lynsay Sands. I need to get those books read in the next week for book club and buddy reviews. Wish me luck!

What Are You Reading? (405)

Holly: Things are crazy at Casa De Holly right now. I’ve had zero reading time. I’ve been re-reading a few Kristen Ashley books, but that’s about it. I’m hoping things will settle down in the next week and I’ll get back to reading for real.

Rowena: What a week! My sister went back to her home in Las Vegas on Monday and now my nephew from Colorado is in town and the rest of his family will be here next week so, my week has been family filled and I love it. I read some pretty great books this week and I’m super stoked about that.

First up, I read Hooking Up (Shacking Up #2) by Helena Hunting for a buddy review that I’m doing with our friend Bookish Ames and I really enjoyed that book. A lot more than I enjoyed the last Hunting book that I tried to read. Lex and Amie were a fantastic couple and their romance was super hot. I will be reading a lot more from Helena Hunting, thanks to this book.

After that, I read The Ones that Got Away by Roni Loren and that was an emotional read that was full of angst and drama but I enjoyed the heck out of that. I adored both Liv and Finn. They were a great couple and I loved seeing them come together in love after being apart for so long. The whole story was well written. I cannot wait for more books from this series.

My last read for the month of November was Roomies by Christina Lauren and that was another enjoyable book. I will admit that this was my least favorite read of the week because the first half of the book was really slow for me. Once the story picked up, it really picked up and I ended up really liking the last half of the book.

My first read for December is Love, Life and the List by Kasie West. I’ve only read one chapter so far so I don’t know how well I’m going to like it just yet but it’s a Kasie West, I have all the faith in the world that I will like this book.

What Are You Reading? (404)

Casee: Oh boy. I haven’t been reading much lately, but not because I’m back in my slump. We are remodeling and my life is in chaos. I’m not able to find a quiet place to read in my house to save my life. When I can sneak a few minutes, I’m reading Ride Wild by Laura Kaye. This is the third book in her Raven Riders series. So far it is really good. I just need more time to read it.

Holly: I had a pretty crazy week and didn’t have a lot of reading time. I did some re-reading and finished Play it Safe by Kristen Ashley. It’s an older book but I missed it the first time around. I’m not sure what I’ll read next.

Rowena: I finished reading Wrong to Need You by Alisha Rai and The Wedding by Julie Garwood earlier this week and I enjoyed both books but I haven’t been able to jump into a new read though I did pick up Hard Cherish by Nalini Singh. Wish me luck because I’m starting to feel like Will when he’s back and everything seems okay but he keeps getting stuck in the upside down. I was reading and loving life and then…I was not reading. Or not reading much.

What Are You Reading? (403)

Holly: I’ve been sick for the past week and a half, which has really cut into my reading. I just can’t concentrate on anything. I did read a couple books, but it took me days to finish them.

I read Complicated by Kristen Ashley. This was originally written as an audio-only release. The digital version came out on the 7th. I skipped the audio in favor of the ebook. It was a sweet contemporary romance. I love how Ashley writes small town romances. I started Christmas in Kilts, a Christmas anthology. I finished A Highlander’s Hope by Terri Brisbin, the first novella in the collection, but it didn’t do much for me. I’m not sure if it was the story or my reading mood. I’ve set the antho aside for now and I’ll come back to it when I’m feeling more in the mood for Historicals.

Other than that, I reread Mystery Man and Fairytale Come Alive by Kristen Ashley. I started about 10 other books, but none of them held my attention. Let’s hope I kick this cold this weekend and get back into the swing of things.

Rowena: …and I’m back! I am finally reading again after not reading for a couple of weeks. I buckled down and read some goodies this week and I’m super stoked to have gotten back to my review pile. Lots of good stuff in there.

This week I read Changing the Game by Jaci Burton, which was a cute baseball romance. Why haven’t I read more of her books?? She’s great. After that I read Hate to Want You by Alisha Rai, which was another fantastic romance and right now I’m finishing up Wrong to Need You by Alisha Rai and I’m liking this book more than Hate to Want You and I adored that one. After I finish this book, I have to do a quick re-read of The Wedding by Julie Garwood for my book club this weekend and then I’m going to jump into Hard Cherish by Nalini Singh.

This is me, reuniting with all of my books…
