What Are You Reading? (532)

Casee: I’ve read so many books in the last week that I don’t know what to do with myself. I just finished Rock Chick by Kristen Ashley last night. I’m going to start the next book in the series today. I’m also reading Forever Only Once by Carrie Ann Ryan. This is my first book by this author and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’m about halfway through and it’s kind of boring tbh.

I’m listening to Magic Binds by Ilona Andrews. I just adore the narrator. Adore her. This is the ninth book in the series and I’m so sad that I’m almost done with it.

Holly: I didn’t get much reading in this week. I wanted to read, but I didn’t have a lot of time. I read Dream Maker by Kristen Ashley, then reread Complicated and Fairytale Come Alive. I’m about halfway through Song of Blood and Stone by L. Penelope. It’s been sitting in my TBR pile for ages. It’s a little slow going, but I like the world. I plan to read Brass Carriages and Glass Hearts by Nancy Campbell Allen next.

What Are You Reading? (531)

Casee: I have been on a reading binge this last week. I’ve read/listened to six books in June so far and we’re only halfway through the month. It’s like a Christmas miracle in June. I’m on a Kristen Ashley binge right now. I read Quiet Man and Dream Maker which are the first two books in KA’s Dream Team series. Of course after reading those two, I had to start the Rock Chick series. I read Rock Chick Reawakening, the prequel and now I’m reading Rock Chick. I’ve also been glomming Shannon McKenna this last week. I’ve been reading her Hellhound Brotherhood series. It’s just so-so. I’m on the third book which is called Hellbent.

I’ve been listening to the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews on audio nonstop. I adore this series. I listened to Magic Breaks and was blown away. It’s definitely my favorite in the series. I’m now reading Magic Shifts, which is the eighth book in the series.

Holly: I finished The Rise of the Phoenix by Mason Sabre. It was just okay. I enjoyed the story, but not the writing. I don’t think I’ll be continuing on. I asked for PNR/UF/F recommendations on Twitter and read Cupcakes, Trinkets and Other Deadly Magics by Meghan Ciana Doidge as a result. It was just okay. I feel like the series can be great with a little refining, so I’m going to continue on to see how things go. Also thanks to Twitter recs, I read the first three books in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. A Court of Thorns and Roses, book 1, was a bit slow in places, but still very engaging. The next two books, A Court of Mist and Fury and A Court of Wings and Ruin were fabulous. Definitely a series worth reading if you haven’t already. I read Sin and Surrender, the final book in K.F. Breene’s Demigods of San Francisco series. Not my favorite end to a series, but still a pretty solid read.

I ended up DNFing Entreat Me by Grace Draven. It’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling, which is generally a favorite of mine, but I wasn’t feeling it. I’ll try to come back to it later. I’m not sure what I’m going to read next. Maybe Pathfinder’s Way by TA White, another Twitter rec.

Rowena: I’m reading much of anything except Korean drama subtitles. I’m just not in the mood to read right now. I thought for sure that I would finally pick up Magic Binds by Ilona Andrews but I’m not even doing that. Maybe this week will be better? We’ll see…when I do finally start reading again, I’ll be reading Magic Binds.

What Are You Reading? (530)

Casee: You guys, I’m still reading the Rossi Crime Family series by J.L. Beck and C. Hallman. I’m reading Tame Me which is book four. When I was reading book three, I promised myself I wouldn’t read any more of the series. I lied to myself. I have no idea why I’m reading the series. I would never recommend these books. It’s a conundrum.

I finished listening to Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews yesterday. I LOVE THIS SERIES. Today I decided to give Echoes in Death by J.D. Robb a try on audio. Yeah, that one is a big no from me. I didn’t like the narrator at all. So now I’m listening to Magic Breaks and I love it, love it, love it.

Holly: I have had no reading time this week. I’m still listening to Entreat Me by Grace Draven. I started Rise of the Phoenix by Mason Sabre on Tracy’s recommendation, but I’ve only read a few pages so far. Hopefully I’ll have some reading time this weekend.

Rowena: It’s been a busy week for me and I haven’t had much reading time so I’m still making my way through Magic Binds by Ilona Andrews. My focus is being split between family stuff, work stuff and trying to keep hold of my sanity through this weird-ass time that we’re living in. But so far, I’m really enjoying Magic Binds and I’m hoping that this coming week will be a lot less chaotic so that I can focus better on the story.

What Are You Reading? (529)

Casee: I’m reading Keep Me by J.L. Beck and C. Hallman. This is the second book in The Rossi Crime Family. I don’t know why these books are so compelling to me. The heroes drive me crazy. I can’t stop. I keep asking myself why, but I have no answers.

I’m listening to Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews. This is book six in the Kate Daniels series. I adore this series on audio. I feel like the narrator really nails Kate’s attitude and emotions. I love this series!

Holly: I finished listening to The Traitor Queen by Danielle Jensen. I really enjoyed that series. She’s planning at least two more in the same world and I can’t wait to read them. I’m only sad The Traitor Queen wasn’t available in ebook format. I plan to buy it when it’s released in September. I also finished reading Alpha Night by Nalini Singh. It was good. I love Selenka’s Pack and hope we see more of them in the future. I DNF’d Oath Sworn by Kristen Banet after reading just a few pages. The writing wasn’t working for me. I’m not sure if it was me or the book. I may try again at a later date. I also read When He’s Dark by Suzanne Wright, the first book in the Olympus Pride series, an off-shoot of the Phoenix and Mercury Pack books. I liked it. I’m glad she’s writing more in that world. I started reading End Game by Hailey Edwards, but I put it aside about 25% in. I need to go back and read Rise Against. There are too many details I’m missing.

I’m currently listening to Entreat Me by Grace Draven, a Beauty and the Beast retelling. I’m loving the dynamic between the main characters. I’m looking for a good paranormal book or series. Any recommendations?

Rowena: As with a whole lot of weeks in 2020, this week was a slow reading week. I barely read this week and because of that, I barely finished Alpha Night by Nalini Singh last night but I’m now ready to jump back into Kate Daniel’s world with Magic Binds. I’ll probably start it over the weekend after I finish binging Goblin, which is a very good Korean drama.

What Are You Reading? (528)

Casee: I’m reading a pretty awful book that I can’t put down. It’s called Protect Me by J.L. Beck and C. Hallman. It’s book one in The Rossi Crime Family. This series is like a train wreck and I just can’t stop. I also have some good books in the wings that I’m really looking forward to reading.

I’m listening to Say You Want Me by Corinne Michaels. This is the second book in her Return to Me series. She is a new-to-me author and I’m really enjoying her books.

Holly: I didn’t have a lot of reading time this week. I’m still listening to The Traitor Queen by Danielle Jensen. It’s really good and I’m totally hooked, but I’ve had no time to listen to it. I really wish the ebook were available so I could read it in the evenings. Instead I’ve been reading Alpha Night by Nalini Singh. I’m almost finished with it. It’s really good. I’m not sure what I’m going to pick up next.

Rowena: Happy Friday, everyone! It’s been a really good reading week for me. I finished Magic Stars (love me some Derek and Julie!) and then I jumped into my TBR Pile for this month. I read and enjoyed His Bride for the Taking by Tessa Dare then I jumped into Protect the Prince by Jennifer Estep and really enjoyed that one. Now, I’m reading our featured review book Alpha Night by Nalini Singh and I’m not far enough into the book to know if I’m loving it or not but I’m hopeful since both Casee and Holly enjoyed it. After I finish Alpha Night, I plan on jumping back into the Kate Daniels world and reading Magic Binds. I can’t wait!
