What Are You Reading? (334)

Casee: I have not read one book this month. It’s pathetic. I was reading Going Dark by Monica McCarty, but I gave it a break. It is a possible DNF because of the politics in it. I really hate leaving books unread, so it’s highly possible that I’ll go back to it. Currently I’m reading Archangel’s Viper by Nalini Singh. Everyone loves her Psy/Changeling series (as do I), but the Guild Hunter series is my favorite. It’s gritty and powerful. I’m actually having a hard time getting into it. So I’m starting to think it’s me. Hello.

Holly: I’m on vacation this week (hooray vacation!). One would think that vacation would equal tons of reading time, but we’ve been busy snorkeling and swimming. I managed to read Archangel’s Viper this week. It was fabulous. I loved Viper and I especially loved Holly (I’m pretty sure Nalini Singh used me as her inspiration for the character. No big deal. I mean, she didn’t say so but it’s pretty obvious, right?). Next up is Spellbinder by Thea Harrison. If I don’t have time tomorrow I plan to read it on the plane home Sunday.

Rowena: It’s been a pretty busy week for me with prom last weekend and my kid’s graduation coming up next week. A lot of preparation going on (haha, not really), mostly it’s just me watching how to make money lei videos on YouTube, haha. I did manage to get some reading done.

To start the week, I read Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon for book club. That was a great re-read. It’s been so long since I read a Dark Hunter or rather, a Sherrilyn Kenyon book and I enjoyed it. What’s surprising for me is that my sisters really enjoyed it too. They enjoyed it so much that they’re both knee deep in the Dark Hunter series and they hate paranormal romances. Yay for book club changing their lives. Ha! After that, I read I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne, Dating You, Hating You by Christina Lauren, and Wired by Julie Garwood. I enjoyed all of the books and my favorite read of the week is probably I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne. Nick and Taylor were great and Lauren Layne once again made me thirsty for more Oxford stories so I’m a happy camper there.

Right now, I’m reading Some Kind of Hero by Suzanne Brockmann. I’ve only read the first chapter but I’m hopeful that I’ll enjoy this one too.

Casee: I’m still glomming D.B. Reynolds. I’m reading Vincent, which is book eight in her Vampires in America series. I just adore this author. I can’t wait until the next book in her Stone Warriors series comes out.

Holly: This week I continued reading Keri Arthur’s Riley Jenson series. I finished books 2-4; Kissing Sin, Tempting Evil and Dangerous Games. Though I enjoyed them for the most part, there are some things that are bothersome to me (mostly the choices Riley makes) so I’m going to take a break from the series for now.

I did a re-read of Silver Silence by Nalini Singh. I still love Valentin. He makes the whole book for me. After that I read Tanner by Sarah Mayberry. I love Mayberry’s books. This was no exception. Tanner was adorable and I really liked the pro-rodeo setting.

I started The Darkest Corner by Liliana Hart last night. It’s the start of a new series. I’m only a couple chapters in. It’s shaping up to be a good story.

Rowena: This week was for haggling with insurance folks over who is going to pay for the damage to my car from some punk ass who hit me last week. It’s an on going battle right now so I didn’t get a lot of reading done. I did manage to read one book though. I read and enjoyed Second Chance Season by Liora Blake and now I want more Braden. I can’t wait for Braden’s book. Now, I’m reading Black Tie Optional by Ann Marie Walker. So far, it’s good and I’m hopeful that it will continue to be good. After this, my plan is to read Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han. I’ve been itching to get that book read since it came out. Wish me luck!

Casee: It’s been a decent reading week for me. I’ve been plugging away at D.B. Reynolds Vampires in America series. I just finished Sophia. Now I’m reading Duncan, which is book five in the series. My favorite part of this series is that the original couple, Rafael and Cyn, are in every book. The pov’s always rotate between the two, so it’s always from a fresh perspective.

Holly: I finished up my reread of the Kate Daniels series with Magic Stars and Magic Binds. Can the next books just be out already?? I’m dyyingg.

I started the Riley Jensen series by Keri Arthur. Full Moon Rising (book 1) was okay. There were some areas that were problematic for me (mainly the way Riley acted), but I enjoyed it enough to continue on. I’m starting book 2, Kissing Sin, today.

Rowena: I actually have books to report for this week. Woot! I finished The Girl with the Make Believe Husband by Julia Quinn and while I enjoyed it, I struggled a bit with it because I’m not a fan of the secret keeping trope that is involved in this one. Still, Quinn entertained me overall so I wasn’t mad about reading it. After that, I read Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett and I really enjoyed that one. It was light, fun and touching. I enjoyed both main characters and the love interest was too cute for words. Right now, I’m reading Shadow Reaper by Christine Feehan and to be honest, I think this is going to be my last book in this series because it’s slow going and I’m just not feeling it right now. I’m going to give it a little more and if things don’t pick up, I’ll be adding another DNF to my reading list for the year. My plan is to pick up Second Chance Season by Liora Blake. I really enjoyed the first book so I’m looking forward to digging into this one.

Happy reading everyone!

Casee: I found a new author last week and I’m super excited. It took me a few days to finish The Stone Warriors: Damian by D.B. Reynolds, but I flew through Raphael. Raphael is the first book in Reynolds Vampires in America series and I absolutely loved it. Except for the ending. It kind of sucked because I hate cliffhangers. That didn’t stop me from immediately buying Jabril. I can’t wait to start it. There are something like eleven books in the series and that makes me very happy.

Holly: I’m still reading the Kate Daniels series. This week I finished Magic Gifts, Magic Rises, Magic Breaks and Magic Shifts

Rowena: I’m still not reading much of anything. You guys, I’m starting to sound like a broken record. I did finish Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs last night but I haven’t started anything else. My plan is to read The Girl with the Make Believe Husband by Julia Quinn this weekend but I’m not sure if that’ll really happen or not. Fingers crossed though.

Casee: I’ve found a new-to-me author and I am so excited! I’ve never read or heard of D.B. Reynolds before Wednesday and I have no idea why. Her upcoming release The Stone Warriors: Kato came up on my recommendations on Amazon so I picked up the first book in the series, The Stone Warriors: Damian. Finally Amazon has done something right. I am thrilled.

Holly: I read Small Magics by Ilona Andrews this week. It’s a collection of short stories set in the Kate Daniels world. I hadn’t read most of them, which is odd since I thought I’d read every book in that series.

Rowena: This week was a busy one for me because I had stuff planned and then I had to pack and get ready for my trip that I am on right now. My family and I are in Utah for a baby blessing so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that I didn’t read much this week. I’m still reading Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs but I should finish it up tonight and then once I’m back home, I plan to jump right into Ironed Kiss by Patricia Briggs to keep the Mercy Thompson party going. 🙂
