DFRAT2013Check out Jordan’s Battle by E.A. WEST

Computer programmer Alaina Howard has a new office mate, and she couldn’t be happier that he’s handsome and unattached. Although initially uncertain of his position in the company, she quickly realizes that he’s good at his job and a valuable asset. If only she knew why the seemingly non-disabled man needed a service dog, things would be perfect.

Army veteran Jordan Blake is thrilled to get a job that allows him to pursue his dream of learning web development. The position is even sweeter thanks to the beautiful woman he shares an office with. The only drawback is that she seems suspicious of his need for a service dog to assist with an invisible disability.

Will Alaina’s suspicion and Jordan’s reluctance to talk about his disability keep them from developing the relationship they both desire?

jbRead an Excerpt of Jordan’s Battle:

Jordan leaned back in his desk chair and rolled his shoulders to relieve some of the tension. The longer he studied the Paradigm Computing website from both the public side and the back end, it sank in just how big a job he’d taken on. Although his dream of becoming a web developer was one step closer to coming true thanks to Russ Porter, Jordan couldn’t deny the weight of responsibility pressing down on him. Russ trusted him to learn huge amounts of information in a short period of time, and Jordan wanted to give a hundred and ten percent, the same way he always did. He just didn’t know if he could survive the pressure it would undoubtedly create.

Before his stress level could climb any higher, Jordan felt a nudge against his left leg. He released a breath and reached down to scratch his dog’s head. Abe always knew when to interrupt his thoughts. Given how long they’d been at this desk, they could both use a walk.

Jordan grabbed his dog’s leash as he stood, and the large, dark brown mutt followed his example. He caught Alaina watching him and smiled. He couldn’t ask for a prettier office mate than the blonde sitting at the desk across the room.

“I’m going outside for a few,” he said as Abe stretched.

Alaina lifted a shapely eyebrow, and distaste clouded her hazel eyes. “You’re a smoker?”

He laughed and stepped out from behind his desk. “No, I’m just going for a short walk.”

Her eyes widened as Abe stepped into her line of sight. “You brought your dog to work? Does Uncle Russ know?”

His office mate was his boss’s niece? Added stress he didn’t need. He shook off the anxiety before it could threaten him too much.

“Of course. Abe goes everywhere with me.” Jordan glanced down at his canine companion and turned him so Alaina could clearly see Abe’s labeled vest. Maybe it would keep her from asking questions he didn’t want to answer.

She leaned forward, her eyes on Abe. An adorable pink blush crept into her cheeks as she met Jordan’s gaze. “Oh! I should have realized he’s a service dog.”

Well, this was new. He’d never seen anyone surprised to learn Abe was a service dog.

#DFRAT Excerpt and Giveaway: The Dungeon by Velvet

Posted July 26, 2013 by Tracy in Reviews | 3 Comments

THE DUNGEON…where lust hurts so good.

Chef Kendall Hall had it all, a successful restaurant in Manhattan and a budding career as a television chef. With all of her accomplishments, there was still something missing… a satisfying love life. All that changes when she becomes a member of The Dungeon a sensual, sexy and stimulating club where role play and a wide spectrum of BDSM activities take place. It’s at The Dungeon where she meets her sub, whom she dominates, commanding him to do more than lick the bottom of her dirty boots. Dressed in black latex, wig, slutty make-up and shades, Kendall’s true identify is well hidden.

Casino owner Magnus Richards is handsome, charismatic and a member of The Dungeon. He has no idea that his Dominatrix is also his business partner. With his face concealed underneath a leather hood, Kendall is also clueless as to Magnus’s identity. As they work closely together on opening a new restaurant, Kendall and Magnus fall in love. When their identities are revealed, will it destroy their chance at true happiness?

Magnus was in the conference room waiting on his third appointment of the day. Jan had set up meetings with a few restaurateurs regarding leasing out the casino’s new space. The first two guys whom Magnus met with didn’t share his vision; they each wanted to open a family-style restaurant. Magnus was taken aback, since they each had swank Manhattan establishments. He had assumed that the owners would want to replica their New York places in Atlantic City, but he was wrong. Magnus didn’t waste any time telling them that the new restaurant at ACES was going to rival the topnotch restaurants in New York and Vegas. He wasn’t looking for another all-you-can-eat buffet, so needless to say those two meetings were short.

As he waited for the next meeting to start, Magnus couldn’t help but think about last night. He was back at his favorite place… The Dungeon, and as usual had the pain of his life. The scars from his previous visit had healed and he was ready for more punishment. The Grand Domme was busy breaking in a newbie, so Magnus started off the night in the Red Room. As he was languishing on the floor, in the corner, a vision appeared. She was dripping in black latex, wearing a long, flaming red wig, shades, and slutty makeup, which he loved. Through the eye slits in his black leather hood, he saw her strut in, order a drink and look around. He prayed that she picked him for the night, and sure enough, after finishing her drink, she walked straight over, and stood directly in front of him.

“Come with me,” she had said.

Magnus rose, and followed her out of the Lounge to a private suite. He could tell by her conversation that she was new to the game. Dominates never asked Submissives what they wanted – and he should know, since he played both roles – but the minute they entered the room, she asked, “Should we devise a safe word, before we get started?”

As the Top, she should have told him the rules, not asked. Magnus started to go back to the Lounge and wait for a more experienced partner, but she intrigued him. Although her face was practically disguised with the heavy make-up, wig and dark glasses, her body was banging, and he was anxious to find out what type of game she had. After deciding that kumquat was going to be the safe word, the party began.

She held up her whip, waved it twice in the air, making a cracking sound. “Get over here and kiss my ass.”

Magnus began slowly walking towards her.

“STOP!” she shouted. “Did I say walk? Get on your hands and knees, you dog!”

Sure didn’t take her long to get in the groove, Magnus thought, and smiled behind his hood. Now she was talking his language.

“I haven’t exactly been hunting Grebetz’s boss,” Lilly said.
“How about if you elaborate.” Dallas dragged the words out slowly.

He reached for the dagger in her hand and she gladly handed it over to him. What Lilly needed was for Dallas to trust her. She no longer wanted to get away from this man, quite the contrary as a matter of fact. It had been so long since a human male had touched her with the passion Dallas had, and Lilly wanted more of that even if Dallas didn’t believe she had control over his desires.

“I’ll tell you only if I still get my bounty for Grebetz,” she said bravely. Even male companionship wouldn’t keep her fed.

“I don’t think you’re in a position to make any kind of deal, Seraphelium,” Thaegan said.

Dallas turned abruptly to his partner. “Damn it, Thaegan, I’m warning you…” He breathed deeply as if steadying himself before turning back to Lilly. The hard expression on his face mapped emotions she couldn’t read. “Obviously there’s more going on here than we can tell you. We’re both a little on edge. This mission—”

“Oh, cut me some frickin’ slack.” Thaegan threw his hands in the air. “You may be team leader, but my ass is also on the line here. I don’t think a couple of quickies qualifies her to join the team.”

Dallas’ eyes narrowed to deadly slits. “Not that I have to explain anything to you, Ka’al, but we’re looking for something from her, the least I can do is explain why.”

“Oh, that makes perfect sense,” Thaegan said. “She’s some low-life criminal with a nice set of tits who botched up months of undercover work. And when we stepped in and stop her, she tried to gut you with a knife. When that didn’t work, she took me down with her f’d-up witchery. Then, when we’ve finally got her safely under control, she manages to screw your brains out and get you to release her because you didn’t believe a word I said and you let her get you sidetracked and thinking with your dick. And now we’re not going to interrogate the only person who might have some information we can finally use—because Gods forbid we might get all mean and nasty with a beautiful female who also happens to be a suspect.” Thaegan righted the chair where she’d been bound and stuffed his oversized body onto the tiny seat. “And now that I’m all settled into a sweet ringside seat—because I sure as shit don’t want to miss one minute of this crazy-ass show—why don’t we all just play nice in this cozy little sandbox and share a little top secret information? That just about cover it, partner?”

“How about if you shut up and let me handle this my way?” asked Dallas.

“You’ve done a bang-up job so far.” Thaegan leaned back, casually folding his hands behind his head. “By all means don’t let me stop you. Seems like your dick’s got one hell of a plan.”

#DFRAT Excerpt and Giveaway: Falling For Sarah by Cate Beauman

Posted July 25, 2013 by Tracy in Reviews | 4 Comments

Widow Sarah Johnson
struggled to pick up the pieces after her life was ripped apart. After
two years of grieving, she’s found contentment in her thriving business
as photographer to Hollywood’s A-list and in raising her angel-faced
daughter, Kylee…until bodyguard and long-time friend Ethan Cooke changes
everything with a searing moonlight kiss.

Sarah’s world turns
upside down as she struggles with her unexpected attraction to Ethan and
the guilt of betraying her husband’s memory. But when blue roses and
disturbing notes start appearing on her doorstep, she has no choice but
to lean on Ethan as he fights to save her from a stalker that won’t stop
until he has what he prizes most.

Sarah lay Kylee in her crib, covered her with a light blanket. Her daughter slept soundly in the center of the mattress, unaware that their lives were forever changed. She stared at the photograph of Jake hanging on the wall above the crib. She had taken the picture the day before he left to finish his deployment, before they were aware they’d made Kylee. His big, cheesy grin and smiling brown eyes filled the frame. Oh God, Jake. You’re gone. How can you be gone? I need you. I can’t do this by myself.

The dredges of shocked disbelief were melting away. Panic and dread quickly took their place. How was she going to live without him? Sarah glanced down at Kylee again as a thought circled through her mind. It brought such crushing pain she could hardly breathe. They would never meet. Jake would never touch the daughter he had helped create. Kylee would be robbed of ever knowing her father’s love.

Jake’s deep, infectious laugh echoed in her head and Sarah buckled. She would never hear it again. He would never kiss her or hold her again. Her breath shuddered in and out.

Ethan’s hands rested on her shoulders and she flinched. He turned her toward him. She stared into his eyes, saw the grief settled there, and a tear rolled down her cheek. “Tell me this isn’t real, Ethan. Please tell me this isn’t real,” she said on a sob.

He pulled her into his arms, holding her tight. “Come here.” He picked her up, sat with her in the rocking chair. Her long legs hung over the side, just skimming the floor as the chair swayed back and forth. Ethan cradled her close to his chest.

Finding comfort in the arms of her friend, Sarah wept as Ethan’s hand ran through her damp hair. “He’s really gone. I can’t believe he’s really gone.”

He lifted her chin as he spoke, choking on his own sorrow. “I’m making a promise to you right now, Sarah. You’ll never be alone through this. I’ll be here for you every step of the way, for as long as you need me.”

“I’ll always need you.”

“Then I’ll always be here.” He rested her head against his chest again as their tears fell, mixing together on the hands they held clutched together.

#DFRAT Excerpt and Giveaway: Medium Well by Meg Benjamin

Posted July 25, 2013 by Tracy in Reviews | 3 Comments

Danny Ramos has always had a gift when it comes to selling houses; it’s as if the homes talk to him. When his jealous boss, Araceli, assigns him to an old and neglected carriage house, he discovers that perhaps his abilities are more than simple intuition. Danny sees and feels the history of the house and the bloody murder that happened there while Biddy, his assistant, feels nothing. If Danny’s going to sell this house, prove to his boss that he isn’t crazy, save his job, and get the girl, he’s going to need all the help he can find, especially when the demon inhabiting the house possesses a client. Lucky for Danny, his sixth sense runs in the family.

Danny closed his eyes. He was a lunatic. That much had been clearly established by the events at the carriage house. But he wasn’t a stupid lunatic. He was not—repeat, not—going to put any moves on Biddy Gunter.

“Danny?” Her voice sounded anxious. “Are you okay?”

“Super.” He managed to come up with a smile that seemed halfway authentic, although he’d never used the word super before, outside of the McDonald’s drive-through line.

“Well . . .” She didn’t sound entirely convinced, but she produced a slightly shaky smile of her own.

And then he did something absolutely boneheaded—he leaned close enough to smell her faint scent of performance sweat and gardenias, the mixture of sweetness and musk, the essence of woman that clung to her skin. Immediately, he was a goner. Almost before he knew what had happened, he leaned further and pressed his lips to hers.

Her mouth was warm and soft and faintly startled. Or maybe it was her eyes that were startled. He tried his best to pull back, not to lose it completely. But pulling back suddenly didn’t seem to be an option.

His logical half screamed at him. Get the hell back. Make it quick. Say something clever and move on. Do not—do not—get involved with Biddy Gunter. Your assistant. The manager’s sister. The one who’s watched you becoming a first-class nutcase day by ghastly day.

And then Biddy’s arms looped shyly around his neck, almost as if this was her first kiss, yet when her mouth moved against his, he knew it was far from her first. He pressed his hands along her sides and gently pulled her closer, feeling the warmth and softness of her breasts pressed against him. His logical half shrugged its metaphorical shoulders and took a hike, while other parts of his body began to clamor for attention.

For a few moments, he let himself feel the heat, the clenching in his chest, the rush of need in his groin, and then he pulled back, slowly, to rest his forehead against hers. “Holy crap, Biddy,” he whispered. “What was that? What just happened here?”

A millisecond later he wished mightily that he’d confined himself to a simple Wow.

She stared up, her forehead furrowed.

“That was . . .” He fumbled through the meager stock of adjectives his numb brain could supply. “. . . very terrific. Very, very terrific.”

Okay, the results were official. He was both a lunatic and a moron.

Her brow had furrowed even more. Of course it had. He was obviously certifiable and an idiot to boot.

“Terrific,” she said, slowly. “Very, very terrific.”

Her lips trembled, and, for one agonizing moment, he thought she might cry. Then he realized she was more likely to giggle.

He closed his eyes again. Once upon a time, he’d been able to handle a simple kiss without making his partner crack up. Of course, it hadn’t been exactly simple, had it?
