night pleasuresRowena’s review of Night Pleasures (Dark Hunters #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Dear Reader,

Have you ever wanted to know what it’s like to be immortal? To journey through the night stalking the evil that preys on humans? To have unlimited wealth, unlimited power? That is my existence, and it is dark and dangerous. I play hero to thousands, but am known to none. And I love every minute of it.

Or so I thought until one night when I woke up handcuffed to my worst nightmare: a conservative woman in a button-down shirt. Or in Amanda’s case, buttoned all the way up to her chin. She’s smart, sexy, witty, and wants nothing to do with the paranormal-in other words, me.

My attraction to Amanda Devereaux goes against everything I stand for. Not to mention the last time I fell in love it cost me not only my human life, but also my very soul. Yet every time I look at her, I find myself wanting to try again. Wanting to believe that love and loyalty do exist.

Even more disturbing, I find myself wondering if there’s any way a woman like Amanda can love a man whose battle scars run deep, and whose heart was damaged by a betrayal so savage that he’s not sure it will ever beat again.

Kyrian of Thrace

The first of the actual Dark Hunter Books.

Kyrian of Thrace is one sexy motherfucker. He’s one of those guys that junior high girls tape to their walls at home, the kind of man older women dream of having an affair with. This man is simply the whole package. And he never dies? Yesss. He’ll slay your demons, he’ll love you all night and give you some many orgasms that you’ll be sore for a week. The stuff dreams are made of, that’s Kyrian of Thrace for you.

His story is one of my favorites of the series, and I love him to pieces. The story of him and Theone, in his mortal life really breaks my heart. No one deserves to be hurt like that. Especially since most warriors of his time were almost NEVER loyal or faithful to their wives at home, but Kyrian was. Kyrian never once cheated on Theone, he was utterly and completely in love with his wife and saw no reason to dishonor the vows he made to her. But to come home and be betrayed by the one person you loved most in the world, the woman you left your family for, the woman who was supposed to love you with all that she was, just as you loved her, it’s something that isn’t easily forgotten.

But I do believe that to truly move on from being hurt from one person, is to move on to the next person. I was really cheering Amanda on because she had a lot going against her in this story. Kyrian wasn’t going to allow anyone to get close to him, but she broke through his defenses and saved him. Restore his faith in women, restored his faith in trusting others and it really was a great way to end the story.

This book is a must read. Just ask anyone of the many people I’ve pimped this book out to, they’ll tell you how awesome it is. So, get it, read it and love it. I have no doubt that you will.

Grade: 4 out of 5

Throwback Thursday: The Quotes (4)

Posted January 16, 2014 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

This week’s Throwback Thursday quote comes from the Dark Hunters series by Sherrilyn Kenyon.  Who remembers that series? Who is still reading that series?

I loved me some Zarek back in the day.  I remember his book making me cry buckets but I haven’t done a re-read in ages.  Maybe I should fix it.  Who remembers this book?  Who remembers Zarek?

Author Spotlight: The Dark Hunters.

Posted February 5, 2010 by Rowena in Features | 11 Comments

Sherrilyn Kenyon stays busy writing stories for the Dark Hunters series. There’s over 20 books/stories in that series alone. The series is so monstrous that it comes with a Dark Hunter companion to help you along your reading adventure.

If you’re a regular reader of this blog then you should know we’re all about the heroes here. We love us some hottie, manly stud heroes that rock our socks.

In the Dark Hunters series there’s a bunch of Dark Hunters, Dream Hunters, Were Hunters and all sorts of other paranormal creatures lurking in the darkness. After all, they’re the things that go bump in the night. =P

My question to you is: Who’s your favorite Dark Hunter, Dream Hunter, Were Hunter, Whatever Hunter from this series? There’s a whole lot to choose from but out of them all, who is your favorite?

I think it’ll help us see who has a shot at being the next last hero standing.

My favorite hero from this series is a tie between Zarek of Moesia from Dance with the Devil and Acheron Parthenopaueous. I love the both of them for the same reason. They were so tortured in their human lives. I couldn’t help but feel for them, want better for them and really to have someone show them the kind of love that really exists out there. I wanted them to see for themselves that there is good in the world and I think that’s why I waited so long for Ash’s book. I needed to see him get his happy ending. I was thoroughly happy with Zarek’s story (I don’t care what you think Holly, Zarek is the bomb![Holly: OMG, watch me stab my eyes out.]) and I wanted that same thing for Ash and wasn’t disappointed. I think of all of the books that I’ve read in this series to date, Acheron is my favorite. Such a good book it was!

So tell me…who’s your favorite Dark Hunter and why? Share your thoughts with us, won’t you?

Book Watch: Bad Moon Rising by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Posted June 16, 2009 by Rowena in Promotions | 7 Comments

This is my crack. My addiction that I can’t seem to kick (not that I really want to, okay yes I do). There’s just something about this series that I can’t get enough of and even though the series is going down a path that I can’t get behind, still I’m looking forward to reading this book. What makes me sleep better at night, is knowing that I won’t be buying this book because it only comes out in hardcover and well, even though I know I’ll read it…I won’t be buying it.

No siree.

I’ll be reading this book in the bookstore like all the other cheapskates out there. But for those of you guys who are addicted just like me and have to own a copy for yourself, this book goes on sale on August 4, 2009 so be at the bookstore and get your book then.

Check out the synopsis:

A stunning and suspenseful new landscape emerges in the thrilling Dark-Hunter world—a world where nothing will ever be the same again. . .

Fang Kattalakis isn’t just a wolf. He is the brother of two of the most powerful members of the Omegrion: the ruling council that enforces the laws of the Were-Hunters. And when war erupts among the lycanthropes, sides must be chosen. Enemies are forced into shaky alliances. And when the woman Fang loves is accused of betraying her people, her only hope is that Fang believes in her. Yet in order to save her, Fang must break the law of his people and the faith of his brothers. That breech could very well spell the end of both their races and change their world forever.

The war is on and time is running out…

Ooh it’s Fang and Amee’s book, well hot damn, finally.
