What Are You Reading? (512)

Posted January 10, 2020 by Rowena in Features | 5 Comments

Holly: I’m glad Rowena is reading, because I’m not. I haven’t read a book yet in 2020, and this week isn’t looking good either. I took a new position at work and all my extra brainpower is going there. Fingers crossed things relax soon. I miss reading.

Rowena: I’m really kicking ass in 2020 on the reading front. I’ve read hella. This week, I read The One for You by Roni Loren, which was my first 5 star read of the year. I cried a bunch while reading that one. I have enjoyed the series so much and this book really ended the series on the right note. I loved the friendships, the romance, and I really loved Kincaid and Ash’s love for her. Gah, I’m a sap. I also read Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn, which was another good read though it took me quite a while to warm up to Meg, to Reid and to whatever it was they were planning and doing in the beginning but boy does it end on such a high note. I also read Headliners by Lucy Parker, which was another fabulous addition to that series. Parker’s redemption game with Nick Davenport was strong because going into that one, I wasn’t a really big Nick fan but after? LOVE!!! Team Davenport right here. Ha! After that, I read The Rebel King by Kennedy Ryan, which knocked me on my ass at every freaking turn. That entire duet was so intense and so angsty that it took me a while before moving on to my next read. Maxim and Lennix gutted me but Kennedy Ryan put me back together so all is well. I ended my reading week with Heartland by Sarina Bowen. What a sweet romance for Dylan Shipley. Sarina Bowen is a champ for keeping the True North books coming. I absolutely adore this series. I’m curious about Dylan’s friend Rickie and if he’s going to end up with Daphne, maybe? Though I really want to see Keith get a book. I need more of that musician in my life. Fingers crossed!

Now, I’m reading The Witness by Nora Roberts. Book club is next week and I’m preparing this month’s discussion and game so I better get my ass in gear and get this book read.

What Are You Reading? (510)

Posted December 20, 2019 by Casee in Features | 6 Comments

Casee: I am still read/listening to the same books I was last Friday. I’m reading For You by Kristen Ashley and listening to Wife by Penelope Sky. I really have nothing interesting to report on what I’m reading.

Holly: Things are still crazy here. I haven’t had much reading time. I did re-read Sweep of the Blade by Ilona Andrews and Repeat by Kylie Scott, but that’s all the actual reading time I had. I listened to two books, Complicated by Kristen Ashley – and Audible original – and The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare. I’m hoping I’ll have time to read this coming weekend, but don’t hold your breath.

Rowena: This week was another week that I thought I’d do good on the reading front and then…didn’t. I finished Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton for book club tonight and enjoyed that one again. It was a re-read but I read it years ago and didn’t remember much from it so it was a pretty fresh read. It took me a little to warm up to Ellie but I immediately loved Will. Ha! I started The Kingmaker by Kennedy Ryan but didn’t get very far into it so I’m hoping to finish that up this weekend and jump into The Rebel King by Kennedy Ryan though I might just jump into my eARC of Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas. Who knows. Wish me luck!

What Are You Reading? (509)

Casee: The beginning of the week was pretty slow for me. The last half of the week has been going pretty well. I’m currently reading For You by Kristen Ashley. I tried to listen to it on audio, but the narrator wasn’t for me. I’m really enjoying Feb and Colt.

I’m listening to Wife by Penelope Sky. It’s interesting to say the least. I’m halfway through it and still can’t decide if I like it or not. I do know that the heroine is driving me crazy.

Holly: I finished listening to The Fate of Mercy Alban by Wendy Webb, but I haven’t read anything else this week, aside from light skimming. I’m dealing with some family matters and I haven’t had the time, energy or inclination for anything else. Hopefully this weekend I’ll have a chance to read.

Rowena: I took my first business trip this week so I was able to get some reading done on my flight and at night before crashing after long days of work. I finished up Lady Derring Takes a Lover by Julie Anne Long and that book made me cry. I enjoyed it a lot, so it was another fabulous recommendation from Holly. I also listened to The A.I. Who Loved Me by Alyssa Cole and really enjoyed that one too. Alyssa Cole has a great writing style and I enjoyed listening to Regina King and Mindy Kaling. All around, it was a good reading week for me.

Right now, I’m reading my last book club book of the year. I’m reading Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton. It’s actually a re-read for me and I don’t remember a thing about it…except the soulmates thing. So far, so good. After this, I’ll be jumping into The Kingmaker by Kennedy Ryan.

What Are You Reading? (508)

Casee: I’m between books right now. I finished Hero’s Haven by Rebecca Zanetti last night. I’m either going to read You Were There Too by Colleen Oakley or Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. Spinning Silver is the book my book club chose for December. I can’t say I’m excited to read it even though the reviews are really great.

I’m listening to For You by Kristen Ashley. KA’s audiobooks are so long, but I still decided to give this one a listen. I’ve also been listening to the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh.

Holly: Last week I continued my Kristen Ashley re-reads with Soaring, The Time in Between, For You and Fairytale Come Alive. I also re-read Guardian Angel by Julie Garwood.

I tried to listen to The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost, but the heroine annoyed the crap out of me and I ended up quitting about halfway through. I really enjoyed How to Run with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper and Laird Wolf by Vivian Arend. Both had some issues, but overall were sweet, fun romances.

I’m currently listening to The Fate of Mercy Alban by Wendy Webb. I’m still pretty early into it, but I’m enjoying the narrator and the gothic feel of the story, despite it being set in Modern Day America.

Rowena: I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday if you’re in the states and celebrate that. If not, I hope you guys had a fabulous week and read all of the good books.

It’s been a pretty crazy Thanksgiving holiday for me with my entire family being in California for it but as crazy as it was, I had a great time bonding with them. Unfortunately, with everyone being in town and running around for my niece’s baby shower on Saturday (which came out super lovely) and my nephew’s CIF football game (boo! We lost the Championship game!), I didn’t any reading done.

This week is a new week though because I am reading two books. I’m just about done reading Lady Derring Takes a Lover by Julie Anne Long and I’m listening to The A.I. Who Loved Me by Alyssa Cole. Both books are great and I’m hopeful I’ll love them both by the time I’m done with them. After this, I’ll be reading The Kingmaker by Kennedy Ryan. For realsy.

What Are You Reading? (+ Julia Chapman Giveaway)

Posted July 12, 2019 by Holly in Features, Giveaways | 6 Comments

Casee: I’ve done quite a bit of Kristen Ashley reading/listening this month. KA just does it for me. I wasn’t too excited to listen to one of her audiobooks because they are so long, but I am so glad I did. Complicated was amazing on audio. I loved it. I also read Fire Inside and Walk Through Fire from KA’s Chaos series. I’m currently reading Wild Like the Wind by Kristen Ashley. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. I’m not a fan of the heroine so far.

I’m listening to Hard Sell by Lauren Layne. I didn’t think I would really care for this book because I didn’t like the characters in the first book of the series. It has been surprisingly good.

Holly: I did a lot of re-reading this week. I read Wildest Dreams, Fantastical and Midnight Soul by Kristen Ashley. I listened to How to Date Your Dragon by Molly Harper. The ebook was on sale with the audio addition, so I bought it. Then I had to listen to it again. Jonathan Davis isn’t my favorite male narrator, but I love Amanda Ronconi.

For new-to-me books, I listened to Mister O by Lauren Blakely. It was a cute Best Friend’s Sister romance. I’m taking a break from Blakely now so I don’t burn out. I read Untamed Delights by Suzanne Wright, the final book in the Phoenix Pack series. I’m sad to see it come to an end. I read Wait No More by Stephanie Nicole Norris, an Amazon rec. I liked the base romance, but the plot frustrated me some. Still, I’ll look for more of her books in the future. I also read The Whole 30: The Official 30-day Guide To Total Health And Food Freedom by Melissa Hartwig. It was an interesting read.

Rowena: I only read a couple of books this week but both books were quality reads and I’m very happy with both of them. I read Wolf Rain (Psy-Changeling Trinity #3) by Nalini Singh and I read Lauren Layne’s new release The Prenup. I really enjoyed Wolf Rain but I FLIPPIN’ LOVED THE PRENUP! I didn’t know what to expect because I kept hearing that Lauren Layne was going away from her steamy romances and because I LOVE her steamy romances, I was a little hesitant to start this one but I shouldn’t have worried because Lauren Layne delivered another emotional roller coaster of a romance that didn’t suffer any without the sex scenes, IMO. I enjoyed it so much that I cried. It was so stinkin’ good.

Now, I’m reading Beginner’s Luck (Chance of a Lifetime #1) by Kate Clayborne and I’ll probably listen to Like the Wind by J. Bengtsson for some buddy reads before I jump into my review pile for the month. Wish me luck!
