What Are You Reading? (+ Paranormal Giveaway)

Posted January 19, 2018 by Holly in Features, Giveaways | 9 Comments

Casee: I was not looking forward to this week’s post because telling you that I’ve been reading the same thing for six weeks is worse than telling you that I haven’t been reading at all. Last night, I finally finished Year One by Nora Roberts. I won’t say too much about it, but look for my review soon. It’s been a long time coming. I’m going to start Judgement Road by Christine Feehan next and hope it doesn’t take another six weeks.

Holly: I had a pretty busy week without a lot of reading time. I listened to The Gamble by Kristen Ashley on audio, as well as The Secret by Julie Garwood. The only book I managed to read this week was Beyond Scandal and Desire by Lorraine Heath for my joint review with Rowena. This was my first book by Heath. I really enjoyed it. I’ll definitely be reading more in the future. Now I’m reading Whiskey Sharp: Jagged by Lauren Dane.

Rowena: It’s been a good reading week for me. I started the week off finishing The Truth about Love and Dukes by Laura Lee Guhrke for my book club meeting and while I enjoyed the book, it wasn’t a favorite. The stuffiness of the hero, in the beginning, was such a turnoff but I was glad that I finished the book because he got way better and the heroine was a straight boss. It was good but that’s it. After that, I read Breaking the Ice by Julie Cross and you guys, that book was freaking good. I thought Cross did a splendid job on writing Fletch and Haley’s complicated romance. I can’t wait for the next one.

After that, I read Love Between Enemies by Molly E. Lee and that didn’t go over well. I couldn’t stand the female protagonist and ugh. Just ugh. You’ll see why when my review is posted. Now I’m reading The Trouble with True Love by Laura Lee Guhrke because I heard it’s better than the first one and I’m mighty curious about Irene’s sister, Lady Clara. I’m hopeful that it’ll be good.

What Are You Reading? (+ Historical Mystery Giveaway)

Posted January 12, 2018 by Casee in Features, Giveaways | 12 Comments

Casee: You guys, I am still reading Year One by Nora Roberts. Last week I was really into it, but due to unforeseen circumstances that actually have nothing to do with my remodel, I have had negative zero time to read. Which is really a shame because I really liked how this book began. I hope I can get back into this because I am also really looking forward to Blood Fury by J.R. Ward. Blood Fury is a book in Ward’s Black Dagger Legacy series, which I’m enjoying more than the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

Holly: I spent the week reading The Kingmaker Chronicles by Amanda Bouchet. A Promise of Fire, book 1, was pretty good. I had some issues with it, but I enjoyed it enough to immediately start the second. Breath of Fire was really slow moving through the first half, but picked up in the second. Heart on Fire, the final book, just irritated the crap out of me. It was about 300 pages too long and mostly consisted of the heroine whining. It took forever to read and honestly, I feel like that’s 7 hours of my life I’ll never get back.

Next I’m going to read Beyond Scandal and Desire by Lorraine Heath.

Rowena: This week was a little slow for me. I’ve been all over the place but I did manage to finish Beyond Scandal and Desire by Lorraine Heath and I really liked that one. On top of the sweet romance, there was a lot going on there that was just flat out interesting. The baby farming, the real story behind Mick’s birth and just everything. There was a lot of great stuff in there and I’m pretty excited for Gillie’s book.

After that, I read About that Kiss by Jill Shalvis and really enjoyed that one as well. Jill Shalvis has really hit her stride with this series and I’m enjoying the heck out of it now. I adored both Joe and Kylie and everyone else but mostly Joe and Kylie. I’m low key wondering if Molly is going to end up with Lucas. I’ve got my fingers crossed.

Now I’m reading The Truth about Love and Dukes by Laura Lee Guhrke for my book club. I’ve been reading it for two days and I’m not making a lot of progress in it. I’m low key bored but I have to finish it because it’s my book club book and book club is on Monday. Wish me luck!

Kat is unbothered by the family’s eccentricities as long as they stay away from her kitchen, but trouble finds its way below stairs when her young Irish assistant is murdered.

Intent on discovering who killed the helpless kitchen maid, Kat turns to the ever-capable Daniel McAdam, who is certainly much more than the charming delivery man he pretends to be. Along with the assistance of Lord Rankin’s unconventional sister-in-law and a mathematical genius, Kat and Daniel discover that the household murder was the barest tip of a plot rife with danger and treason—one that’s a threat to Queen Victoria herself.

What Are You Reading? (401)

Posted October 27, 2017 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

Casee: I’m still reading Hello Again by Brenda Novak and I still don’t care that I’m still reading it. I’m reading! I’m on a road trip so I expect to finish it this weekend and I can start new-to-me author Laura Kaye.

Holly: I finished the Rock Chick series with Rock Chick Reckoning and Rock Chick Reawakening. While I enjoyed certain aspects of each book, the series will never be my favorite. Then I read Radiance, Eidolon and A Matter of Trust by Grace Draven, a historical fantasy series. I adored Radiance and liked Eidolon, but it was much darker than the first. The change in tone was somewhat unexpected since the first book was a lighter read. A Matter of Trust is a short story that follows Radiance. It was cute. I enjoyed both full-length books and the novella, but I’m not quite ready to start the Master of Crows series, which is set in the same world.

I need a break and a palate cleanser so I’m reading Bountiful by Sarina Bowen.

Rowena: I can’t believe that we’ve been doing this feature for 401 weeks. We’ve been doing this for quite a while now. We’ve read hella books, too. 🙂 This week, it’s still a slow reading week for me because, at my house, the World Series has taken over. My Dodgers are playing and we’re hoping to bounce back from that game on Wednesday.

I was reading Hate to Want You by Alisha Rai but I’m not focusing on it so it’s taking a long time to read it so I think I’m going to put it down for now and read a baseball romance. Maybe that will be my ticket to focusing on reading since I’ve got baseball fever right now. I’m starting Changing the Game (Play by Play #2) by Jaci Burton. Wish me luck!

What Are You Reading? (248)

Posted June 26, 2015 by Holly in Features | 2 Comments

Holly: I barely read anything last week and this week started out the same. Then, on Tuesday, my house was quiet and I was in the mood, so I started reading. When I finished on Thursday I’d read 8 books. 8 books in a week isn’t that great for me, but 8 books in 2 days isn’t too shabby.

I re-read three Linda Howard books: Cry No More (thanks to Azteclady’s review), which devastated me just as much this time as the first. Seriously, this book packs some crazy emotional punch. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend you do…but make sure you have a big box of tissues near at hand. Heart of Fire features one of my favorite romance novel heroes, ever. I love Ben Lewis and Jillian Sherwood is the perfect match for him. The Amazon jungle setting isn’t one I thought I’d like, but Howard is such a master at pulling me in, I felt like I was on their adventure with them. Another highly recommended read. Last, I read Now You See Her, a much underrated book, in my opinion. I love Sweeney and Richard. The story only covers a few days, but the romance works very well. I also re-read Opening Up by Lauren Dane, so I can review it with Ames.

For new reads, I read Back to You by Lauren Dane, a great reunited lovers story. Vaughn and Kelly were everything I’d hoped they’d be. Sweet by Tammara Webber was wonderful, too. I loved Boyce and Pearl. On the recommendation of JenB, I bought Sincerely, Carter by Whitney G, a friends-t0-lovers themed contemporary new adult. It was such a cute book. I really loved Carter and Arizona. Finally, I read Archangel’s Enigma by Nalini Singh. When UPS dropped the ARC off at my house I did a happy dance and immediately hid it in the back of the closet so I could finish my to-do list for the day. You guys. Nassir. SO MUCH LOVE. The whole book was amazing, of course (I mean, it’s Singh) but Nassir. Sigh.

I started Shadow Woman by Linda Howard this morning. I feel like I tried to read this when it was first released and DNF’d it. We’ll see how it goes this time around.

What Are You Reading? (247)

Posted June 19, 2015 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

Rowena: In the last couple of weeks, I’ve noticed that my reading has gone way up and that makes me happy. I also realized why my reading has gone up. When I don’t have a plan of action, a list of books that I want and need to read then I don’t read as much. Actually, I don’t read at all. So I made a list of books that I have for review, books that I want to read and sorted them by release date and I’m tackling that reading list….AND LOVING IT.

In the last week, I finished After Hours by Claire Kennedy and didn’t like it. The characters got on my nerves and I wanted more from the game but didn’t get it so it fell flat for me. I also read Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis and enjoyed it. Not as much as some of her other books but it was still an enjoyable read. Aidan was yummy. After that, I read Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley and absolutely LOVED that book. I loved pretty much everything about it. The hero. The heroine. The romance. The secondary characters. I can’t wait to read more from this series.

Now I’m reading Pixelated by L.S. Murphy. It’s a contemporary YA romance that I’m liking a lot more than the YA’s that I read last week. I hope it stays that way. After this, I’m going to read Faking Perfect by Rebecca Phillips.

Holly: I haven’t read a book in over a week. I’m in a funk. It sucks. I re-read parts of Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley and Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh, but that’s it. Maybe next week. fingers crossed
