What Are You Reading? (399)

Casee: I’m reading. I’m actually reading a book. Thank you, Brenda Novak. I’m reading Hello Again by Brenda Novak. It’s the second book in her Hanover House series. This series keeps me on the edge of my seat and I love that about this series. I’m just happy to be reading again.

Holly: I read some contemporary roms this week. I guess I’m finally finished with my ConRom hiatus. I read Sustained by Emma Chase, which was amazing! Rowena recommended it and she was so right, I loved that book. Then I read Sidebarred, the follow up novella featuring the same family. So.Freaking.Good. I reread Stay by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy and The Promise by Kristen Ashley.

I think I’m going to read Dream On by Stacey Keith next.

Rowena: It’s been a quiet week for me at home so I did manage to get some reading done. I read Played by Jen Frederic and that was a good read. It wasn’t my favorite book in the series but Ty and Ara were lovely characters and it was good to see everyone else again. I’m curious who is next in that series. I wouldn’t mind reading Nichole and Remy’s story.

After that book, I read Holiday Wishes by Jill Shalvis and that was another sweet romance. Sean was everything I hoped he would be when we first met him in Fin and Pru’s book. Now I’m reading A Duke in Shining Armor by Loretta Chase and so far, it’s great! No complaints here.

Casee: I’m reading zip. Zilch. Nothing. I don’t even know what to say anymore.

Holly: I had a pretty busy week and didn’t have as much time to read as I’d have liked. I re-read Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley.  Then I read Temporary by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry, which was enjoyable, but I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. Recently Ilona Andrews blogged about The Kingpin of Camelot by Cassandra Gannon, and I had to try it. It was so much fun! It was sweet and silly and over the top in the best possible way. If you’re looking for something light to read, I highly recommend it.

I’m almost finished with Whiskey Sharp: Unraveled by Lauren Dane. I’m really enjoying it. I’m not sure what I’m going to read next.

Rowena: I read two books this week and one of them I hadn’t planned on reading until I opened it. I read The Final Score (Play by Play #13) by Jaci Burton and that was a cute romance about two best friends that make that leap from besties to lovers to soulmates. 🙂 I also read If There’s No Tomorrow by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I finished that book last night and man, it was good stuff. It was one of those books that make you think about the choices you make and the consequences bad decisions have.

I haven’t started a new book yet but my plan is start Chasing Christmas Eve (Heartbreaker Bay #4) by Jill Shalvis when I get home tonight. I’m stoked to finally read Spence’s book.

What Are You Reading? (393)

Casee: Nothing. I’m reading nothing. Send help.

Holly: A few weeks ago I bought Magic Waking and Soul’s Blade by Eva Chase. They’re Arthurian based UF novels I was pretty excited to read. Life got busy and I didn’t have a chance to read them until this week. Sadly, they didn’t work as well as I’d hoped. Magic Waking was just okay. I loved the flashbacks to Merlin and Arthur 1500 years ago, but the pacing was kind of slow through the modern stuff. Soul’s Blade I ended up DNFing. The plot moved pretty slow and I could see it was going to end on a cliffhanger, so I’m putting it off until the next book is out (Dragon Reborn, November, 2017). I’m a little bummed because I had high hopes, but maybe the third book will tighten things up a bit.

After that I read Kristen Ashley’s latest release, The Time in Between by Kristen Ashley. It wasn’t a bad read, but I think I enjoyed the previous two books in the series more. Next up is Temporary by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry. I love both authors and I can’t to read this collaboration.

Rowena: Brenna started college this week so it’s been a whirlwind of activity for us. She was dropped from one of her classes that she needed to play basketball (the dropped class put her below the required number of units she needed to play) so she needed to crash courses until she could get in and on Wednesday, she was able to get into a class that she needs. Thank goodness because I wanted to punch someone…the day before classes were due to start, El Camino? Really?

Anyway, I still made time for books though I only read one book. Or, I finished Royally Endowed by Emma Chase, which was a great read and then I jumped into Temporary by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry and that was a solid romance too.

Now I’m reading Fallen Heir (Royals #4) by Erin Watt and I’m pretty sure this book is going to be a DNF for me. I’m really bummed about that because I really did love Easton before but now? I just can’t deal with all of this stupid shit going on and the shine of my love for this guilty pleasure series is gone and I don’t think I’m going to continue this series. shrugs So now I’m jumping into If There’s No Tomorrow by Jennifer L. Armentrout and I hope I have better luck with this story and characters. Wish me luck.

What Are You Reading? (392)

Casee: August has been a nonexistent reading month for me. It’s really depressing. I was hot on Devil’s Cut by J.R. Ward, then I fizzled. It wasn’t the book because I know that I love that series. So I put that aside for now and am going to start Love Another Day by Lexi Blake. I love Lexi’s books. She hasn’t let me down so far and I’m hoping she’ll help me get back into my groove.

Holly: Rowena and Ames forced me to start watching Game of Thrones, so I binge-watched Season 1 and didn’t read anything new this week.

I reread Kristen Ashley’s Fantasyland series, because GoT reminded me so much of it (and thank Ames for that, too, since she put it in my head). I read The Golden Dynasty, Fantastical, Wildest Dreams, Broken Dove and DNF’d Midnight Soul. The first half of Midnight Soul is great, but then it peters out and gets totally boring. I also reread Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie and Clean Sweep, so I can review it with Rowena.

Hopefully I can get some new books in this weekend.

Rowena: Another good reading week for me so this is what I look like right now:

This week, I read Royally Screwed (Royally #1) by Emma Chase and I really liked that one. It got me in the mood for some royal romances so I kept right on reading the books in that series. I also read Something about You (FBI/US Attorneys #1) by Julie James again for my book club meeting and Jack Pallas was just as fabulously sexy as I remember. I read Clean Sweep (Innkeepers Chronicles #1) by Ilona Andrews for my joint review with Holly and that was an enjoyable read. It was different from all of the paranormal books that I read and it was a good different. I really liked Dina and Sean. I’ll be coming back to this series once I finish up the Royally series by Emma Chase. I also read Royally Matched and Royally Raised by Emma Chase and adored both of those books. Oh man, Prince Henry was the bomb and so was Sarah. I adored her. Her story made me cry.

Now, I’m reading Royally Endowed (Royally #3) by Emma Chase because it’s Logan and Ellie’s book. Of course, I was going to jump right into that as soon as it came out. Logan is all kinds of yummy and I wanted to see who Ellie grew up to be. I’m super enjoying the book right now. Woot!

What Are You Reading? (391)

Casee: It was another slow reading week for me. I have been reading Devil’s Cut by J.R. Ward for a week now. I love this series. It is so soap opera like. I adore it. I dare say that I like it more than the BDB. I really admire JRW for ending it with this book. I’m hoping that I have some quiet time to really get into it this weekend. I know once I do that I won’t be able to put it down.

Holly: This was a quiet reading week for me. I read Fused in Fire by K.F. Breene, the conclusion to the Fire and Ice Trilogy. It wrapped up the overarching storyline, but I still have so many questions! Luckily the author’s note said she plans to explore the world more through different characters. I started several books and couldn’t get in to them. Hidden Fire by Elizabeth Hunter ($.99 for Kindle right now!), Charred Heart by Lizzy Ford (currently Free for Kindle!), and A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I think I was suffering  a book hangover from the Fire and Ice Trilogy and that’s why I couldn’t get into them. I’m going to set them aside for now and come back to them later.

I ended up rereading Sweep in Peace and One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews. I started Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie last night. I’m a little concerned I won’t love it as much as I used to, because it’s been years since I’ve read it. I’m sure it’ll hold up and I’m worrying for nothing.

I’ve been craving Arthurian romances since I finished Spellbinder by Thea Harrison, but I’ve been having a hard time finding any. Amazon popped up with a recommendation for Magic Waking by Eva Chase. I’m going to start that next.

Rowena: It’s been a productive reading week for me and I’m glad to finally be reading on a regular basis. This summer has been a struggle on the reading front so really, I’m glad to be reading something again. This week, I read Links by Lisa Becker, which was an overall good story but I struggled with the dialogue and the heroine a bit. The hero was fantastic though. After that, I jumped into Gentlemen Prefer Heiresses by Lorraine Heath and I really enjoyed that one. It was a quick read but I adored both Andrew and Gina in the other books and they really shined in their own story. My only gripe is that I wish it had been longer…but that was just me being greedy. Their story was damn near perfect.

Right now, I’m finishing up Royally Screwed by Emma Chase and it’s got me silly grinning at work. I really am enjoying Nicholas and Olivia’s story and I can’t wait to buddy review this one with my friend, Ames. After I finish Royally Screwed, I’m going to jump into Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews so that I can finally see what everyone else has been going on and on about. Everyone loves Ilona Andrews so I’m going to find out if I love her too. Finally.
