Casee: I’ve had a pretty good reading month so far. Well, compared to the past two month. I finished Blood Fury by JRW, which I really enjoyed. I am finally reading Archangel’s Viper by Nalini Singh. I can’t believe this book got buried so far down in my TBR pile. I am not ashamed to admit that the Guild Hunter series is my favorite series by Nalini. I usually devour everything she releases right when it comes out, but I missed this one somehow. I am really enjoying Venom and Holly’s story.

Next up is either Storm Gathering by Rebecca Zanetti or Kato: The Stone Warriors by D.B. Reynolds. I haven’t decided yet.

Holly: I had a book hangover from The Others series this week. Nothing I picked up after them really appealed, so I ended up going back and re-reading the series. I feel like I really zipped through them the first time, so it was good to go back and take my time with the stories. I also re-read Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews for a joint review with Rowena.

I’m currently reading The Darkling Bride by Laura Andersen (which is fabulous so far) and listening to Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase.

Rowena: This week was for reading The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory. I heard so many good things about it and I really zipped through the book the first time that I read it because there were things that annoyed me in that read that I didn’t think were a big deal until I started writing down my thoughts for my review. The things that annoyed me became much bigger and so I had to read it again, slowly to figure my mind out about it. In the end, I didn’t like it. There were parts that showed promise but overall? It wasn’t for me.

After reading The Wedding Date, I started and finished Runaway Groom by Lauren Layne and loved the hell out of that book. Gage and Ellie entertained the socks right off of me and I was wearing socks because it was cold that night. That was such a great book. I enjoyed it so much more than I enjoyed the first book in the series, Ready to Run. After that, I jumped into Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews and I’m finishing that up today so that I can jump into Living Out Loud by Staci Hart.

Cole should have killed Anja the moment he realized she was his mate. Instead, he let her live and now they’re on the hunt, chasing the morons who think they can force her to marry another man. Like hell. And while this shapeshifting bear might have his share of sins, he’s not going to let little things like murder and mayhem prevent him from having the woman meant to be the keeper of his heart.

Bought by the Bear
Josilyn Martinez just needed the money to help raise her nephew. That's it. There's no other reason she would take a job posing as a shifter's mate so he can assure his grandmother he's settled down. There's no reason to stay at his place so they learn "more about each other." And there's definitely no good reason she should get involved with the hard, hot, and handsome shifter that's hired her.
Xander just needs a fake mate for a week to get his grandmother off his back. But what's a bear shifter to do when the impostor mate he hired turns out to be his actual mate? All sweet, luscious curves and a heart of gold, Xander's not going to let his mate get away. Now all he has to do is show her that they belong together, one kiss and touch at a time...

WAYR-New

Casee: I am still reading Blood Fury by JRW. Last night was the first time I really had a chance to sit down and really read the whole week. The book really took an interesting turn that made me want to continue to read it, so I didn’t go to bed until late. Well late for me anyway. I’m looking forward to finishing up this weekend (fingers crossed). This morning when I was scrolling through Instagram, I saw Nalini’s post about her upcoming Guild Hunter novel and I realized that I haven’t read Archangel’s Viper. W.T.F. That will be rectified after I finish Blood Fury. As Nalini’s number one fan, I am ashamed.

Holly: I’ve been fighting migraines all week, but I still managed to get some reading done. I finished Natural Witch by K.F. Breene, which I really enjoyed. It’s a spinoff of the Fire an Ice trilogy and features Penelope, the natural witch Regan discovered in (I think) book 3. I’m really looking forward to the next book. Then I read The Others series by Anne Bishop. I read Written in Red, Murder of Crows, Vision in Silver and Marked in Flesh. I’m currently about halfway through Etched in Bone. I didn’t intend to read the entire series at one time, but I couldn’t seem to stop myself from picking up the next after I finished each one.

Written in Red is currently $2.99 for the Kindle if you want to give it a try. It’s a very compelling series, though light on romance.

Rowena: What a busy week I’ve had. Between work and basketball, I’ve been all over the place so while I have been reading, I haven’t been reading much. I finished Irresistible You by Kate Meader and I really enjoyed that one. Much more than I enjoyed the novella that jump-started the series for me. Remy and Harper were a great couple and their romance was super sweet. Right after I finished that book, I jumped into So Over You by Kate Meader, the next book in her Chicago Rebels series and I enjoyed that one even more than I enjoyed Remy and Harper. Vadim and Isobel were so much fun and their story super, super adorable. I really adore the second chance romances and Kate Meader did such a great job telling theirs.

Now, I’m reading Undone by You by Kate Meader (yes, it’s a Meader kind of week for me) and once again, I’m having a fabulous time with Cade and Dante. Their romance is super hot and both guys are super yummy. I cannot wait to read Bren and Violet’s story. I’m super anxious for that one. Up next will probably be The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory. I’ve been hearing great things about that book so I’m looking forward to diving into that romance.

What Are You Reading? (+ Historical Giveaway)

WAYR-New

Casee: I am still reading. Regularly. I don’t even have to try or make time. I’ve just been reading. It’s miraculous. I just finished Devil’s Cut by J.R. Ward and moved onto the new book in her Black Dagger Legacy series, Blood Fury. I’m only a chapter or two into Blood Fury, so I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. Devil’s Cut was just okay. Not my favorite of the trilogy, which was disappointing because I really adored The Bourbon Kings series. I loved the soap operaish-ness of it all. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I enjoy Blood Fury as much as I enjoyed the first two books in the series.

Holly: This week I listened to The Lion’s Lady by Julie Garwood, then reread Guardian Angel and Castles, just because. I also read Binti: The Night Masquerade by Nnedi Okorafor, which I really enjoyed. I definitely recommend reading the series in order. Then I read Brooklynaire by Sarina Bowen. I heart Nate and Becca.

Now I’m reading Natural Witch by K.F. Breene, which is set in the same world as the Fire and Ice trilogy. I’m enjoying it so far.

Rowena: I had a great reading week. Lots of extra time on my hand so I jumped into my kindle and read my little heart away but first, I gave up on Man Hands by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby. It just wasn’t for me so I moved on to Brooklynaire by Sarina Bowen and I adored that book. Becca and Nate were so great and I loved seeing everyone else, too. After that, I read Shot on Gold by Jaci Burton and that book was okay. There wasn’t enough conflict for me to really love it but it was good. After that, I read In Skates Trouble by Kate Meader and that was short and…just okay. The heroine and the hero got on my nerves and there wasn’t a lot of page time to get over all of it but in the end, I was glad for the set up into the first full-length book in the series so that was cool.

Now, I’m reading Irresistible You by Kate Meader and so far, I’m quite enjoying it. I can see why everyone enjoys this series so much. It’s fast-paced, entertaining and the romance is sizzling hot. I’m so in.

What Are You Reading? (+ Contemporary Giveaway)

Posted January 26, 2018 by Casee in Features, Giveaways | 9 Comments

WAYR-New

Casee: Life may be busy for me these days, but I am making time to read. Yes, I have put myself on a reading schedule. I have to admit that I’ve never done this before, but it is actually working. I’m currently reading Judgement Road by Christine Feehan and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve heard that it gets very dark, but I haven’t quite gotten there yet. I’m not necessarily against darker romances so I am curious to see if it will bother me. I hope this reading schedule continues to work out for me because I have so many good books to read!

Holly: Amazon’s audio add-on feature has really changed my life. I’m doing a lot more audiobooks now that I don’t have to subscribe ($14.99/mo was always too much for me for the number of audiobooks I actually listen to). Now that I’m commuting to work, I love being able to listen in the car and at my desk. This week I listened to Honor’s Spelendour, The Secret and The Wedding by Julie Garwood, as well as Good Boy by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy and Pretty Girls Dancing by Kylie Brant. I picked up most of the audio add-ons when they were only $1.99.

Aside from those, I read Happiness for Humans by P.Z. Reizin, which was a strange rom-com featuring an AI named Aiden who played matchmaker. I started Pretty Girls Dancing by Kylie Brant in audio and ended reading it to the end because I was impatient to find out what happened. Binti and Binti: Home by Nnedi Okorafor were sci-fi novellas recommended to me by Ames. I enjoyed both and immediately started the third.

I also re-read The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan and The Year We Hid Away by Sarina Bowen.

I’m currently reading Binti: The Night Masquerade.

Rowena: My reading week started off strong. I read The Trouble with True Love by Laura Lee Guhrke and really enjoyed that one so I thought I’d jump into Man Hands by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby and…it’s been 4 days and I’m still reading this book. I don’t think it’s for me. It’s not that I’m bored with it, it’s more that the humor is immature and not making me laugh and the characters…I’m having a hard time connecting with them. All of them. The main couple and the people in their lives. It’s all just…ugh. If I can’t finish it tonight then I’m going to toss in the towel and read either Brooklynaire because of NATE AND BECCA!!! Or I’m going to jump into Shot on Gold by Jaci Burton. Wish me luck!!

What Are You Reading? (+ Paranormal Giveaway)

WAYR-New

Casee: I was not looking forward to this week’s post because telling you that I’ve been reading the same thing for six weeks is worse than telling you that I haven’t been reading at all. Last night, I finally finished Year One by Nora Roberts. I won’t say too much about it, but look for my review soon. It’s been a long time coming. I’m going to start Judgement Road by Christine Feehan next and hope it doesn’t take another six weeks.

Holly: I had a pretty busy week without a lot of reading time. I listened to The Gamble by Kristen Ashley on audio, as well as The Secret by Julie Garwood. The only book I managed to read this week was Beyond Scandal and Desire by Lorraine Heath for my joint review with Rowena. This was my first book by Heath. I really enjoyed it. I’ll definitely be reading more in the future. Now I’m reading Whiskey Sharp: Jagged by Lauren Dane.

Rowena: It’s been a good reading week for me. I started the week off finishing The Truth about Love and Dukes by Laura Lee Guhrke for my book club meeting and while I enjoyed the book, it wasn’t a favorite. The stuffiness of the hero, in the beginning, was such a turnoff but I was glad that I finished the book because he got way better and the heroine was a straight boss. It was good but that’s it. After that, I read Breaking the Ice by Julie Cross and you guys, that book was freaking good. I thought Cross did a splendid job on writing Fletch and Haley’s complicated romance. I can’t wait for the next one.

After that, I read Love Between Enemies by Molly E. Lee and that didn’t go over well. I couldn’t stand the female protagonist and ugh. Just ugh. You’ll see why when my review is posted. Now I’m reading The Trouble with True Love by Laura Lee Guhrke because I heard it’s better than the first one and I’m mighty curious about Irene’s sister, Lady Clara. I’m hopeful that it’ll be good.

Now, someone has put a bounty on her head…

Venom is one of the Seven, Archangel Raphael’s private guard, and he’s as infuriating as he is seductive. A centuries-old vampire, his fangs dispense a poison deadlier than Holly’s.
