What Are You Reading? (539)

Casee: Casee is out camping this week. Let’s hope she’s also reading all the books. 🙂

Holly: This was a much slower reading week for me than the last. I didn’t have much time to read over the weekend and I chose to watch movies on Monday rather than read. I finished Dragon Unleashed by Grace Draven, which I ended up really loving. The ending of that book was great. It was a slow moving story, but it worked well in context. I only wish the next book was available already. I started a new series, King Arthur and Her Knights by K.M. Shea. I’ve been craving Arthurian romances and I love the premise of this – a woman gets taken back in time to become the one true King of Britain – I read Enthroned and Enchanted. The first half of Enthroned was pretty bad and I almost quit reading. The second half picked up enough for me to want to read the next book. Enchanted was better than Enthroned, but not great. They’re pretty light reads without a lot of depth, but I am enjoying the gender swap and I’m hoping they get better as the series progresses.

I’m currently listening to a book called She Walks in Power by MaryLu Tyndall, a new to me author. It’s another gender swap where the heroine is the Robin Hood character. I’m early into it, but I’m enjoying it so far.

Rowena: My reading slowed down this week and because of that, I quit the book that I was reading because I wasn’t in the mood for a historical romance. That book was The Perfect Rake by Anne Gracie. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it but I’ve been itching to start Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews so I did. So far, so good so I’m hyped to finish it. Bring on Catalina and Alessandro, please!

What Are You Reading? (538)

Holly: After I finished The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series, I thought about starting a historical, but it just didn’t appeal. I ended up re-reading two old favorites instead; The Return of Eden McCall by Judith Duncan and Fall Into Me by Linda Winfree. It was nice revisiting both stories. I finished a re-read of Sweep of the Blade by Ilona Andrews, as well.

I tried to read Mr. Hotshot CEO by Jackie Lau. I liked the first couple chapters, but I lost interest and DNF’d it about 40% in. I may go back to it later, but I’m not sure. After than I read The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary, which was lovely. I’m so glad I picked it up. I can’t wait to read more of her books. I’m currently reading and listening to Dragon Unleashed by Grace Draven. The first few chapters were a little slow, but I’m fully invested in the story now.

Rowena: This week is the week that I finished the Kate Daniels series. I’m really sad about it but boy was it an epic journey and I’m so glad that I finally made the time to finish it up. I freaking loved Magic Binds, Iron & Magic, and Magic Triumphs. All books were fantastic and I looked like this a lot while reading all of these books:

Right now, I’m catching up on the Ryder serial that Ilona Andrews is writing on their blog, and loving that. I’ll start The Perfect Rake by Anne Gracie next. I’m so glad to finally be reading again.

What Are You Reading? (537)

Casee: I have been binging on MC contemporaries the last week or so. I read four books in Joanna Wylde’s Reapers MC series. I’m currently reading Down & Dirty: Zak by Jeanne St. James. It’s the first book in the Dirty Angels MC. I’m only on chapter two so I can’t really say if I like it or not.

I was listening to Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews, but I didn’t finish it on audio. I ended up reading the last few chapters. Unfortunately I haven’t been into listening to audio books lately. I need to get back into it for sure.

Holly: This week I read the rest of Hailey Edwards’ Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series. I finished How to Claim an Undead Soul, then read How to Break an Undead Heart, How to Dance an Undead Waltz, How to live an Undead Lie, How to Wake an Undead City and How to Kiss an Undead Bride. I have 2 other novellas to read, but I’m taking a break from the series for now.

I finished listening to One Fell Sweep and started Sweep of the Blade by Ilona Andrews. I also reread The Time in Between and The Will by Kristen Ashley.

I think I’m going to start How to Marry a Marquess by Stacy Reid next.

What Are You Reading? (536)

Casee: I’ve been glomming Kristen Ashley for about a month now. I started to read Golden Trail by KA, but it was pretty terrible. After that, I decided to take a break. Now I’m glomming Joanna Wylde’s Reapers MC series. I’m reading Devil’s Game, which is the third book in the series. I wasn’t very impressed with the first book, but it was good enough for me to move onto the second. I’m really glad I did. I’m really loving this series.

I’ve been listening to Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews for weeks. I don’t know if I’m going to finish it. I really want to move on to the last book in the Kate Daniels series.

Holly: Holly: I started Wayfarer’s Keep by T.A. White, the third book in her Broken Lands series, but I ended up setting it aside a few chapters in. I needed some space between books before I finish the series. I’ll go back to it later. I finally read Deal with the Devil by Kit Rocha, a post-apocalyptic romance featuring mercenary librarians. It was really good. I loved the girl power and overall strength of the characters. I read How to Save an Undead Life by Hailey Edwards, the start of The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series. I liked it so much I immediately started the second book, How to Claim an Undead Soul. This is a UF series, so not a lot of romance yet, but I’m anxious to see where it goes.

What Are You Reading? (535)

Casee: I’ve been reading Kristen Ashley. Only Kristen Ashley. Reading Kristen Ashley for a month straight is traumatizing to say the least. It’s also awesome!

I’m listening to Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews. This is the start of Hugh d’Ambray’s series. The narrator is different (not in a good way) so it’s taken me a bit to get into it. I might switch to reading it.

Holly: Things have been crazy the past couple weeks and we missed WAYR. I’m including my reads for the past 3 weeks here. I read an ARC of Archangel’s Sun by Nalini Singh, which I really enjoyed. The romance wasn’t my favorite, but I loved Sharine’s personal growth through the novel. I alternated reading and listening to The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James. The end was a little anticlimactic, but I loved the story overall. The narration was wonderful, too.

I read A Winning Season by Rochelle Alers, a new-to-me author. I enjoyed the story. It was sweet and romantic. I also really enjoyed Accidentally Compromising the Duke by Stacy Reid. I’m not sure how excited I am to finish the series, however. I didn’t love the secondary characters that are featured in later books.

I finally read A Heart of Blood and Ashes by Milla Vane, which I’ve been trying to read since November. Once I pushed through the first chapter I really fell into the story. Pathfinder’s Way by T.A. White, another fantasy romance, was very good. I really liked the female lead. I also read Mist’s Edge, the second book in the series, which I didn’t care for as much. I’m anxious to read the third book.

I reread Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs, Repeat by Kylie Scott, The Gamble and Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley. I listened to One Fell Sweep and Wildfire by Ilona Andrews.
