A VAMPIRE BOUNDFor countless days and nights, the vampire Lucian has been chained, starved, and tortured in a Himalayan cavern. Prisoner and pawn of his powerful Ancestral father, Lucian has all but given up any hope of escape. Until a beautiful stranger risks her life to save him...

A WOMAN SET FREETwo years ago, Claire and her friend Zoey were kidnapped by vampires and sold as human slaves. Claire managed to escape, tracking her missing friend through the vampire underworld—and stumbling upon the only man who could help her. A dangerously captivating vampire in chains...

A LOVE EVERLASTINGBinding herself to a creature she doesn't trust, Claire frees the vampire from his nightmare prison. But now he needs Claire's blood and body to regain his strength. To defeat his father. And to sustain his deepest, darkest needs. Can Claire give herself to this seductive creature...without becoming a slave to desire?

Tracy’s review of Chains of Darkness (Men in Chains #2) by Caris Roane

Claire was abducted by vampires two years ago along with her friend Zoey and was held prisoner at the home of Daniel – the evil bastard trying to take over the world. She didn’t have it so bad, however, as she was nanny to a little boy (Josh from book #1). She was rescued and now wants to find her friend Zoey, if she’s still alive. She needs the help of Lucian who is a vampire and also Daniel’s son. She’ll even try to help Lucian find the extinction weapon that Daniel wants in exchange for his help, but only so Lucian can destroy it.

After reading book one in this series I was actually looking forward to reading the second book. Unfortunately this book has little to recommend it. I found myself first rolling my eyes when Lucian is rescued by Claire. He’s been a prisoner for a year in a cave and chained to a wall. She gets him to safety and does he bathe? No, he gets dressed and goes clubbing. What?

Then the book went on and I soon got very bored as the H/h seemed to be doing the same thing over and over: Meet, fuck. Save someone, fuck. Battle the evil guy, fuck. Rinse, repeat and fuck. God!  Let’s do as little as possible and then fly to some secret home and screw our brains out – cuz that seems like a good idea when people are trying to kill you, right? There was also a lot of multiple orgasms, that apparently only a vampire can give you, with lots of blood drinking. They managed to fall in love through all of it but by that time I truly didn’t care.

I have the third book right here but I’m debating on taking my chances. Will it be good like book 1 or horrible like book 2? IDK, what do you think? sigh Decisions, decisions.

Adrien is an Ancestral vampire, one of the strongest of his kind ever to exist. Scarred, tormented and extraordinarily powerful, he's been imprisoned high in the Himalayan mountains...until a beautiful woman releases him from his chains and demands his help.

Two years ago, Lily's home was invaded by vampires who killed her family and kidnapped her son. Now she has one mission—to get him back. And the only man who can help her is a vampire whose strength has made him legendary. But can she ally herself a creature who frightens her...and ignites her darkest needs?

As Adrien ushers Lily into his hidden vampire world, he must show her that his kind can be trusted. But when saving her son requires her to unleash a weapon that will destroy his entire race, can he say the same for her?

Tracy’s review of Born in Chains (Men in Chains #2) by Caris Roane

Adrien is a vampire who has been incarcerated for a year by the man who believes he is now the leader of the vampire people, Daniel. Daniel works with an evil human who gives Lily Haven a mission. Go to Adrien, put a blood chain around his neck that will tie him to her and then find something called the extinction weapon – a weapon that could destroy the entire vampire race. Lily obviously doesn’t want to do it but her son is being help captive and it’s the only way to get him back. Lily hates vampires as they killed her family and Adrien hates humans.   A match made in heaven, right? Not quite. They’re forced to work together and not be more than 10 feet out of the others site. This compels them to have to call a truce and eventually learn more about the other and their races.

Despite hating each other they find that they can’t stay away from each other. There’s something stronger at work in their lives and neither can figure out what it is. They seek help from friends of Adrien’s but it may not be enough to save their lives – or the life of Lily’s son.

This is the first book in the Men in Chains series and while it was a good read I found the romance to be pretty rushed.  The entire story – while it really does feel like Adrien and Lily have known each other for many weeks – takes place in a matter of 3 days, I think. That’s very little time to not only fall in love but to go from hate to love. I found that part of it to be a bit disappointing as I would have liked it all to have been drawn out a little more.

Adrien was a good hero. Yes, he was a vampire but he and his brothers, before their incarceration, had been like a police force. The vampire society had no law enforcement or judicial system but Adrien and his brothers did their best to keep the peace and get evil vampires out of commission.   He had a hug capacity for love and I loved that about him. He was a good man….uh, vampire. 🙂

Lily was a decent heroine. I was glad that she didn’t neglect to see the good in Adrien despite her hatred for his kind. I wish she would have come clean sooner about her reasons behind why she was helping look for the weapon but that’s just personal preference I think.

I’m looking forward to reading book 2 to see what happens with Adrien’s brothers.

book-alejandrossorceressEXCERPT FROM ALEJANDRO’S SORCERESS BY ALYSSA DAY
Rose stalked back into the house, very deliberately not slamming the door behind her. Arrogant, pompous, sexist excuse for a law enforcement officer. Although, from what she’d seen in her very limited experience, those qualities were the norm, not the exception, in men carrying badges and guns. Look at the stupid sheriff.

She calmed down inside the kitchen, and her innate sense of fairness started to kick in. The officers who’d come to the house and told them about Daddy’s car accident couldn’t have been nicer or more considerate. One of the men–Officer Engel, she’d always remember his name, though she’d only been twelve at the time–he’d sat and held her mother’s hand while she cried.

Okay. Fine. Then only Alejandro and the Garden City sheriff were arrogant asses. Although, speaking of asses, Alejandro’s was really something to behold. Not that she’d looked on purpose, but it had been hard to miss when he ran outside to find his partner.

“Why am I even thinking about this, Bob?” she rhetorically asked her stone cat, who didn’t answer.

She didn’t need him to answer, though. Agent Tall, Dark, and Dangerously Hot was too sexy for his own good—and far too sexy for her equilibrium to remain steady. He was ridiculously good looking, as if Hollywood had cast him in the role of action hero. Muscled in all the right places, silky black hair that was just a hint too long, and dark eyes that looked at her as if she were an especially juicy piece of fruit he’d like to suck between those sexy lips.

Rose stumbled over her own feet when a surge of heat whipped through her at the thought of him sucking on any juicy parts of hers.

“Oh, goddess, I’m in trouble here. Focus, Rose,” she whispered to the empty room, more proof that she was losing it, as if she’d needed evidence.

Focus. Right. She crossed to the refrigerator and retrieved another vial. At this rate, if they didn’t get rid of the basilisks soon, she’d have to make another batch. Not to mention she didn’t know if the potion was strong enough to rescue a grown man. The paperboy had been a close one, not that she’d admitted it to anyone. He’d taken longer to transform back from stone to human than she’d hoped.

Plus, he’d refused to deliver their paper ever again. Ungrateful little monster.

Alejandro walked in the door, and the air in the room changed and grew heated; charged as if the electric potential of a summer storm had centered itself over her kitchen counter. The skin on the back of her neck tingled with a delicious feeling of anticipation.

Stupid neck.
