WAYR-New

Casee: I am still (yep) reading Vengeance Road by Christine Feehan. These last few weeks have really thrown me off my reading game. First there was getting ready for family to be in town. Then there was family in town. Then there was recovering from having family in town. I was finally able to sit down with this book and really get into it this week. I’m about 80% through it and it’s pretty decent. Standard Feehan fare.

I’m also listening to Hate Notes by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. Holy shit, this book is funny. I don’t even want to think about what I look like sitting in traffic, laughing like a maniac. Actually, I don’t really care how crazy I look. I am so loving this book. If you have Kindle Unlimited you can get it for free on Kindle. I am looking forward to finishing this one. I happened to fall into this book so I don’t know what else these authors have written. I can’t wait to find out.

Holly: I finished listening to Ain’t She a Peach by Molly Harper, which was cute. I liked how quirky and sort of dark/funny the heroine was. I wouldn’t classify this series as strictly romance, since the heroines do a lot of growing over the course of the books. I also listened to Goddess with a Blade by Lauren Dane (a reread I enjoyed), One More Time by Laurelin Paige (there was a lot of gratuitous sex, but the reunited lovers story was cute) and Ache for You by J.T. Geissinger. It was pretty awful, guys. The heroine is so horribly angry for the entire book there was no redeeming her. I wanted to love it, because it’s a Cinderella retelling, but no. Just no.

I re-read Coming Undone by Lauren Dane, which I adore. Brody 4ever! I also read Chocolate and Sin by K.F. Breene. I liked it okay, but it moved slow in parts. I’m looking forward to the second book. I started reading Royally Hung by Anne Marsh, another Cinderella retelling, but I ended up DNF’ing it about 50% in. The writing voice didn’t work for me at all.

I’m currently listening to Blade to the Keep by Lauren Dane and reading My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren.

Rowena: It’s been a pretty slow reading week for me. I had family in town for my niece’s farewell this week (and Thanksgiving) and the last of our family left yesterday so I spent yesterday doing laundry and cleaning up the mess that was left behind. I did manage to get some reading done though.

I finished Save the Date by Carrie Aarons and didn’t particularly enjoy that one all that much. I moved on to My Favorite Half Night Stand by Christina Lauren and even though that book was problematic as hell, I still enjoyed it. Yesterday, I started listening to Ache for You by J.T. Geissinger and had to put it down with about 4 hours left of listening time because I wanted to, still want to, throat punch the heroine for being a whiny little piece of shit. I’ll finish listening to that today and then you’ll read all about my bitchy thoughts when I review that with Holly.

I started reading Once and for All by Sarah Dessen last night and so far, it’s good. I’m not bored, I don’t hate anyone yet but it’s still early days…haha. Just kidding. Seems like a bunch of characters are getting on my nerves these days. Anyway, after this book I’ll pick up The One You Fight For by Roni Loren cause I need to tackle my review pile before I get behind.

I hope everyone is having a great reading week!

Home--in the island village of Cloud Bay--is where the heart is. . .

Leah Santelli always knew that Zach Harper, son of a rock legend and her best friend's brother, was painfully out of reach. Then, on the night of her eighteenth birthday, Leah shocked herself by asking for--and receiving--the gift she wanted: one night of passion with Zach before he left town to pursue his rock star dreams. Now, years later, Zach is back in Cloud Bay to record his first solo album. His return could also be Leah's big chance to step up her own music career. But getting the producing credit she needs means spending long hours with Zach in the recording studio...and falling back into the habit of longing for him, for better or worse.

Zach used to believe that a man must put his past behind him. But coming back home for Cloud Bay's famed music festival has allowed him to finally make amends with his family and, much to his surprise, reunite with Leah. He might have left her once but now it seems he can't stay away. Trouble is, even though the heat between them burns hotter than ever, Leah has old wounds in need of healing before she can give Zach a real chance. Can he find a way to convince her that they can make more than just great music together--and that she's the one that he wants for all time?

Casee: I am reading Vengeance Road by Christine Feehan. I really did enjoy Judgement Road which is the first book in the series. Torpedo Ink is a gritty spin-off of Sisters of the Heart about a motorcycle club. If you like your men extremely alpha and the strong females that don’t let them get away with much, you’ll like this series. You don’t have to read Sisters of the Heart to start Torpedo Ink.

I’m also listening to Archangel’s Prophecy by Nalini Singh. When I started reading it last week, it was really slow. Holly mentioned that I should re-read Archangel’s Heart then go back to Archangel’s Prophecy. I did that and am really enjoying Archangel’s Prophecy the second time around.

Holly: I finished listening to Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs. Now I’m sad all over again that I have to wait for another book in this series. I love Mercy and her band of scary werewolves. I can’t wait to see what Briggs is going to do next. After that I started listening to Raven’s Shadow by Briggs, A little Night Magic by Lucy March and The Restorer by Amanda Stevens. I ended up DNF’ing all 3. I was enjoying Raven’s Shadow, but the world is a bit too complex for me to focus on in audio. That’s a book I’ll need to read. The heroine of A Little Night Magic was driving me crazy and nothing about the Stevens novel worked for me. After that I listened to Chased and Making Chase by Lauren Dane. It was nice returning to the town of Petal and catching up with Chase family.

I read Mornings on Main by Jodi Thomas, which was sweet, but slow and I finished Sleepover by Serena Bell, which I enjoyed. I DNF’d Malcolm and Isabel by Julie Anne Long. This started as an epilogue in The Legend of Lyon Redmond back in 2015. She just released their novella and I thought I’d love it. Sadly, it isn’t working for me. It doesn’t help that she doesn’t include the original epilogue, yet starts the novella right where it left off, which made for some confusing reading until I finally just went back and read the epilogue again.

I’m currently listening to The Christmas Cottage by Samantha Chase.

Rowena: It’s been a slow reading week for me. It was my birthday on Tuesday and I had all these plans to go home and snuggle down in bed with my kindle but those plans went out with window when my sister called me and asked if I wanted to go with her to my nieces basketball game in Costa Mesa. I will never say no to watching Meghan play. She won her game and played well so I was happy with how I spent my birthday.

I managed to finish Mornings on Main by Jodi Thomas and thought it was a slow romance but sweet. Maybe too sweet. After that, the only other book that I read and I read it in one sitting so you know it was good stuff, is Fall (VIP #3) by Kristen Callihan. I really love John Blackwood. So, so much. His heroine Stella was pretty fantastic too.

Now, I’m planning on starting the audiobook for Archangel’s Storm (Guild Hunter #5) by Nalini Singh and reading Save the Date by Carrie Aarons.

It's Christmastime in the quaint island town of Cloud Bay, where love is always in season... Will Fraser has believed in love at first sight since the day he first laid eyes on Mina Harper five years ago. There was only one problem: She was happily married. Casee: Aloha from the beautiful island of Kauai, where I’ve been reading…almost nothing. I’ve been here for seven days and today is the first day that I’ve really sat at the beach and read. The book I’m reading is The Deal by Elle Kennedy and I’m really enjoying it. It was one of Rowena’s picks for me in our Summer Reading Challenge and I have to admit that she really nailed this one.

Holly: I spent the last two weeks on vacation. I had a great time in Alaska, but I didn’t have a lot of reading time. I reread Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews and Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh, but that’s it. I hope to finish my Summer Reading Challenge books before the month ends, though. Wish me luck.

Rowena: It’s been a busy week for me so I haven’t read anything or finished anything. I’m hoping that picks up over the weekend though. Pray for me.
