Keenan James has made a career out of teaching women what men really want. He hosts a weekly roundtable, where he offers advice to the love-lorn, and now he's even been tapped to write a book—though he's never been able to commit to just one girl. Unfortunately, he's recently been saddled with his mom's irrepressible pooch, a golden doodle named Barbra Streisand, and his publisher has saddled him with a co-writer—a shy psychologist named Tory Hoffstra, who's determined to keep him on a short leash.

Suspecting that Keenan's nothing but a hound, Tory joins the round-table under an alias. She's shocked that he's more than just a smooth-talking seducer . . . and that he's even more gorgeous than she had heard. As for Keenan, before long he finds himself warming up to Barbra the dog and feeling the heat with Tory . . . and learning that not even his own advice could have prepared him for finally falling in love.

I have never read an Elaine Fox book before and I have a few of her books from when I stole all those books from Holly’s house all those many months ago and I haven’t had much time to pick up any of those Elaine Fox books and read them, but I got this not too long ago and read it over the weekend and I enjoyed it very much.

This was one of those really quick reads that I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I really liked. I’m not a dog person (shhh, don’t tell Ames! HA!) I’m not a pet person at all and though I can crack a smile when I read about a dog, I don’t usually get too excited about them because it’s just not me. I had a bad experience when I was a kid and I’ve been deathly afraid of dogs and animals for that matter ever since. Blame my brother.

shrugs

So I picked this book up, not very excited to read it because of my issues with dogs but I plunged right in and began the book anyway. I laughed some in the very beginning and by the time we meet both the hero and the heroine, I was digging the story. Alright, so a quick low down of the story, the story is about Tory, a psychologist who is asked to write a story with the hero, Keenan James about relationships. Now Tory has already written a self help book but she’s been having trouble getting the book released, so you can imagine her enthusiasm at writing a book with some jerk who gives women advice on his program. So it’s basically like this, Tory is a psychologist who has the credentials to write this book but Keenan has everything else she needs to get the book out there. She’s very suspicious of Keenan so she does a complete makeover on herself and joins one of his little luncheon thingies.

It’s funny how suspicious both Tory and Keenan are of each other. With Keenan thinking the new girl was a plant sent from his publisher, not caring one way or another but then there’s Tory who knows that Keenan is a fake and she wants to prove it. So many things happen in the book that had me laughing but don’t think for one second that Tory didn’t get on my nerves because she did. There were times I wanted to smack some hot damn sense into her but the book wasn’t bad, at all. Despite my issues with Tory in the beginning, getting to know her throughout the book more than made up for my initial annoyance with her, I enjoyed the book a lot. I liked Keenan’s dog too, surprise surprise! =) You’re just not human if you can’t appreciate a cute dog when you see one, or in my case, read about one. haha.

And I can’t do this review without letting you lovelies know how hot Keenan was. He was a total stud and one that I won’t mind revisiting from time to time. He has a way with women that I thoroughly enjoyed and I’m happy to say that I’ll be reading more Elaine Fox books because this one was seriously a good time.

Y’all should totally read it yourselves and enjoy a few hours of a good time!

  1. You definitively enjoyed this book more than I did, Rowena. For me, thid book was a DNF. I couldn`t like Tory… she grated on my nerves. I found it annoying how she wanted to find flaws to Keenan’s discussion groups and everything, just so she could prove that SHE was right.

  2. What a coincidence! I just got this book from the library. It must have been the cute dog on the cover that made me pick it up *G*
This reminds me of a book that Susan Andersen or Rachel Gibson would write.

  3. I hate those kind of heroines… the ones that need to prove to the world that they are better. In Tory’s case, I felt she was weak and needy. I mean, she’s a psychologist and yet, she doesn’t realize her own problems. So okay, that can happen… but so many in her case? Sure, if she wanted to prove that she was someone, better… I wouldn’t have minded it, but she had to go over someone in order to do it. Ugh LOL 😛

    Hey Nath,

There were times when I thought I was going to put the book down because Tory got on my hot damn nerves and I wanted to smack her more than once but I was happy that I finished it…it was cool.

    Katiebabs,

Hey…I’m glad that you got to pick this book up, it’s pretty good and I think you’ll enjoy it, just remember his name is Keenan, not Keegan…haha. Don’t go changing his name during the book or you’ll write your review with the wrong hero’s name, haha.
