What Are You Reading? (557)

Holly

I finished The Art of Theft by Sherry Thomas, which I enjoyed, though it wasn’t my favorite of the Lady Sherlock books and Heart on a Leash by Alanna Martin, which didn’t work quite as well for me.

I read Beast of Beswick by Amelie Howard for our book club, which was a pretty solid read. Not great, but good. I listened to the first two books in the Gemini Series by Hailey Edwards, Dead in the Water and Head Above Water. This is an off-shoot of another series I didn’t read, but set in the same world as The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy. I enjoyed both books enough to start the third, Hell or High Water. I also finished Wild Sign by Patricia Briggs, which was so good. That ending!!

I haven’t decided what to read next.

I started reading Beast of Beswick by Amelie Howard, stopped reading it because it wasn’t grabbing me so I started reading the new Patricia Briggs but I couldn’t really concentrate on it because of some personal stuff that popped off for one of my friends so I’m distracted with worry and sympathy for my friend. I’m back to reading Beast of Beswick by Amelie Howard because I need to finish that book before this weekend’s monthly zoom call with my book girlfriends. Wish me luck!

My favorite read this week was Julie Kriss’s latest, WICKED DANGEROUS, a second-chance romance between a couple who have been divorced for 13 years. Now I’m reading J. Kenner’s DESTROYED WITH YOU about a man who discovers that his late wife (killed in an explosion five years ago) is still alive and is an undercover agent. After that, I have Lauren Blakely’s latest, MY ONE-WEEK HUSBAND, a fake relationship romance between business partners.

Good luck, Rowena. Holly, it looks like you were on a tear!

    Since last week ~

    — The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick. When my group met in December to choose future books, we discussed how many depressing books we’d read. This book was suggested to balance that. It was a pleasure to read a book group book that was not dark and dismal!
    — the science fiction romance Overload Flux: Central Galactic Concordance Book 1 by Carol Van Natta which was a gift from a friend who knows I like space opera and romance; I enjoyed it. Interestingly, it has a pandemic storyline though it was written in 2014. Note: In browsing other books by the author, I just saw that you can get the above book for FREE as part of a seven book collection titled Star Crossed: 7 Novels of Space Exploration, Alien Races, Adventure,…
    — enjoyed the book Mail Me Art: Going Postal with the World’s Best Illustrators and Designers by Darren Di Lieto. It was fun looking at all the different art pieces with their various styles; I also liked reading the included artist interviews.
    — a second gift book: Finders Keepers by Linnea Sinclair. This author’s books often show up on lists of science fiction romances. Interestingly, I’ve tried several of her books in the past with no success; this one I enjoyed.
    — Metal Boxes by Alan Black. The book is silly in parts; however, it definitely kept my attention, and I enjoyed it. I see it’s classified as both space opera and military science fiction.

I’m mostly reading Lost in Paris and I’m loving it. I’m also reading two other books, but I’ve been focusing more on Paris at the moment.
