What Are You Reading? (554)

Things have been pretty crazy for me this week and I haven’t had a lot of reading time. I re-read a couple books. I listened to a short story by Rainbow Rowell called The Prince and The Troll (which was well written but didn’t seem to have a purpose as a story) and read Crown of Shadows by K.M. Shea, but that’s pretty much it. I’m really looking forward to having some downtime this weekend so I can read.

Things are being shuffled around in my department at work so I’ve been cross-training my coworkers on my job and learning theirs so that we can make the transition on Monday more smoothly. So, I’ve been busy with a lot of learning and working but I did manage to finish The Roommate by Rosie Danan and I enjoyed it. The chemistry between Josh and Clara was fun and the story itself was great so I was happy with that. Right now, I’m reading the next book in that series (it’s a series right? Cause the book that I’m reading now is Josh’s ex-girlfriend’s book) The Intimacy Experiment and though my reading is going slowly, I’m enjoying what is happening. An ex-porn star and a Jewish rabbi? Alrighty then! 🙂

I’ve just started Zoe York’s latest release, FIERCE AT HEART. It’s the second book in her Kinkaids of Pine Harbour series and features marriage-of-convenience and older-heroine tropes. Also interesting: both MCs are veterans, but when they were on active duty, the heroine was the hero’s commanding officer. So far, it’s very good.

I read Regency in Color : Collection 1 a 4 author anthology. Overall, I enjoyed the stories. However, with a romance anthology – even collection #1 – you expect all of the stories to have an HEA, right??? The first story had a total non ending. The heroine tells the hero to leave her alone and storms off. Silly me, I expected it to get wrapped up – maybe even in a 5th story where all the couples had their HEA. NOPE. I mean, WTF? Sigh. I finished it today and I’m not over it yet.

I did read and finish Dianne Duvalls’ The Segonian the second book of the Aldebarian Alliance.

It’s been that kind of week. Not only did I finish it, but I also really enjoyed The Segonian.

    • I really hate it when that happens in “romance” novellas. Does the story continue elsewhere? Maybe those were just prequels to full-length novels?

I reread books one through five of the Touchstone series by Andrea Höst. I think these may become new comfort reads!

I also read Snow Day (Touchstone Book 6) by Andrea K Höst.

The main character matures a lot in the year that is covered in the first three books. Since those books are written in diary format, the heroine will occasionally make remarks like, “I didn’t write about all the times I cried or drooled over that guy.” The price is certainly right (FREE) if you want to try the first book.
