What Are You Reading? (549)

Casee: I am reading the Ghosts and Reincarnation series by Kristen Ashley. I’m currently reading Penmort Castle, which is the third book in the series. I am highly enjoying this series. I loved the first and second books in the series and so far I’m loving the third.

I purchased Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews. I haven’t started it yet but I really need to.

Holly: I finished Pack of Lies by Hailey Edwards. It was pretty good. I downloaded the next book in the series, but I’m not sure if I’ll start it right away. I read Magical Midlife Madness by K.F. Breene, which was a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to the next book.

I thought I’d get in the holiday spirit by reading some Christmas stories I found on Kindle Unlimited. I read Scrooged by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. It was cute. I had some minor issues with all three stories, but overall they were great. Polar Opposites by Dani Wyatt has a premise I love – opposites attract – but at about the 80% mark the male MC turned into a giant aggressive douche and killed the story for me. Last night I read Whiskey Holiday by Crystal Daniels. Isn’t that title awesome? Sadly it turned out to be the only good part of the story. The hero sees the heroine across the bar, decides she belongs to him and within 12.5 seconds has her going home with him. The next day he shows up at her house and moves in while she’s at work. That didn’t scream “sexy” to me, so much as “WHOA THERE CREEPY STALKER”. Clearly I am not the target audience for this story.

Now I am reading The Mistletoe Kisser by Lucy Score. I’m not very far into it but so far it seems pretty good.

Rowena: My reading mojo has returned but it’s slow going. I did finish my e-ARC Heart and Seoul by Jen Frederick and enjoyed it though it’s not my favorite book by Frederick. Now, I’m reading In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren, trying to get into the Christmas spirit. So far, it’s just as funny as I thought it would be. I should be finished with this one before the day is up and then I’m going to really read The Roommate by Rosie Danan.

Rowena, I loved In a Holidaze! I immediately reread it after I finished. I have a stack of holiday reading & I think I’m going to start with Lori Wilde’s The Christmas Backup Plan. I’m on vacation! Woowoo!

    Since last time ~
    — Spooky Business (The Spectral Files Book 3) by S.E. Harmon
This is the third book in a series which needs to be read in order. While I enjoyed revisiting the main characters, the storyline was a tad eerie for my taste and kept me awake!
    — Secret Santa by Kati Wilde was an enjoyable contemporary romance.
    — Marked by Death (Necromancer Book 1) by Kaje Harper
I enjoyed this paranormal romance featuring two men; I look forward to reading the sequel. It is currently FREE for Kindle readers.
    — Secret Light by Z.A. Maxfield: I enjoyed this historical male/male romance set in California in the mid 1950s; it is currently free for Kindle readers.
    — the story “Boyfriend” by Sarina Bowen which is in the anthology ‘Tis the Season for Romance by multiple authors. It was a pleasant read but not my favorite by the author.

I’m reading Skye Warren’s romantic-suspense, SILVER LINING, the third & final book in her Diamonds Trilogy (following DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH and GOLD MINE). The h&h are spending a lot of time hiding in a safe location, so the focus of the book has shifted to the heroine’s sister and her love interest—a man who was the villain, of sorts, in the previous two books (Warren always does a good job with ambiguity—villainous heroes and heroic villains). SILVER LININGS is not as dark as some of Warren’s work, but the entire trilogy does include elements of dub-con and flashbacks to the hero’s abusive childhood.
