Casee: I’m on a Kristen Ashley binge right now. I’m reading Rock Chick Renegade and Knight, both by Kristen Ashley. I honestly don’t know how I can keep doing this. I never usually read more than two KA’s in a row. It’s a shit show, people. I can’t stop. I’m also still reading Looking Inside by Beth Kery.

I’m listening to Magic Binds by Ilona Andrews. Yep, still haven’t finished it. I hope to finish it by the end of this month.

Holly: I finally read some historicals this week. At the recommendation of a friend I read My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid, a new-to-me author. The end was a little flowery for my tastes, but I can’t deny I enjoyed it. I purchased several of her other books and plan to read them soon.

I also read Marry in Scarlet by Anne Gracie at Ames’ urging, then The Perfect Rake, after I asked Tracy for another Gracie title.

I also read the novella Blind Date with a Book Boyfriend by Lucy Eden, another rec from Ames. It was super cute. I highly recommend it.

I’m starting Scandalous Scotsman by MJ Fields today.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

    Since last time ~

    — California Dreamin’: Cass Elliot, Before the Mamas & the Papas by Pénélope Bagieu; this is a graphic novel that I read as part of my library summer reading challenge. I enjoyed the book and now I’d like to listen to some music by the Mamas & the Papas!
    — for artistic inspiration, I recently finished Freehand: Sketching Tips and Tricks Drawn from Art by Helen Birch which I found enjoyable.
    — Love Him Free (On The Market Book 1) by E.M. Lindsey; this is a contemporary romance featuring two men. I enjoyed it.
    — Dear Edward: A Novel by Ann Napolitano; this is about the sole survivor of a plane crash. The author told a compelling story, and I recommend it.
    — A Primate’s Memoir: A Neuroscientist’s Unconventional Life Among the Baboons by Robert M. Sapolsky for my book group. It was, at times, funny and sad and disgusting and heartwrenching. It was eminently readable and left me with absolutely no desire to ever go to Africa. I would happily read more by this author. As a side benefit, this meets the last of my summer reading challenges which was to read a book in the Dewey decimal 500s.
    — My Ideal Bookshelf with art by Jane Mount and edited by Thessaly La Force. I quite enjoyed this book.

I read Katie Porter’s MESSY, an age-gap/rock-star romance between a young woman whose father was in a wildly successful band in the 1990s and one of his former band mates. I thought it was a really good story of the young woman’s journey getting out from the shadow of her father’s past, but I didn’t really buy the romance angle.

There haven’t been any bad or frustrating books – thankfully. I read Sarah MacLean’s Daring and the Duke, Penny Reid’s Ninja at First Sight, and I’m working my way through the Green Valley Library subseries of the Green Valley Chronicles spinoff series from Smartypants publishing based on Penny Reid’s Winston Brother’s series.
