What Are You Reading? (528)

Casee: I’m reading a pretty awful book that I can’t put down. It’s called Protect Me by J.L. Beck and C. Hallman. It’s book one in The Rossi Crime Family. This series is like a train wreck and I just can’t stop. I also have some good books in the wings that I’m really looking forward to reading.

I’m listening to Say You Want Me by Corinne Michaels. This is the second book in her Return to Me series. She is a new-to-me author and I’m really enjoying her books.

Holly: I didn’t have a lot of reading time this week. I’m still listening to The Traitor Queen by Danielle Jensen. It’s really good and I’m totally hooked, but I’ve had no time to listen to it. I really wish the ebook were available so I could read it in the evenings. Instead I’ve been reading Alpha Night by Nalini Singh. I’m almost finished with it. It’s really good. I’m not sure what I’m going to pick up next.

Rowena: Happy Friday, everyone! It’s been a really good reading week for me. I finished Magic Stars (love me some Derek and Julie!) and then I jumped into my TBR Pile for this month. I read and enjoyed His Bride for the Taking by Tessa Dare then I jumped into Protect the Prince by Jennifer Estep and really enjoyed that one. Now, I’m reading our featured review book Alpha Night by Nalini Singh and I’m not far enough into the book to know if I’m loving it or not but I’m hopeful since both Casee and Holly enjoyed it. After I finish Alpha Night, I plan on jumping back into the Kate Daniels world and reading Magic Binds. I can’t wait!

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

My favorite read this week was Taylor Fitzpatrick’s m/m hockey romance, COMING IN FIRST PLACE. I loved it! The plot reminded me of my favorite book of 2019, Rachel Reid’s HEATED RIVALRY, in that both books are about hockey players who have been rivals since their time in junior league hockey and become secret lovers when they join the NHL; but the writing styles of Reid and Fitzpatrick, while both good, are completely different. The book ends on an HFN—I understand Fitzpatrick has a trilogy planned for the couple. Can’t wait!

Another book I really enjoyed was Charmaine Pauls’s very good, but extremely dark, BEAUTY IN THE BROKEN, about a wealthy widow with a history of mental illness who is manipulated into a “revenge marriage” with the man her father framed for a crime he didn’t commit. The book was good, but needs all the trigger & content warnings.

I recently finished Thea Harrison’s American Witch which I loved and now I’m jonesing for the next one in series which is due out Summer ’20. I’m just getting into The House of the Rising Sun by Kristen Painter which is of course Book #1 of yet another series that I will need to collect:)

    Since last week ~

    — Accelerating Universe (The Sector Fleet, Book 1) by Nicola Claire; it was a pleasant read that, in one sense, reminded me of Michele Diener’s Dark Horse.
    — reread SK Dunstall’s Alliance and Confluence for the nth time.
    — Eliza’s Miracle by S. J. Sanders which was a set in space romance featuring characters in their fifties. While it was pleasant, I don’t expect to reread this.
    — reread the Claimings series by Lyn Gala. The first four books in this series are amongst my favorite books; they feature Liam, a linguist, and Ondry, an alien trader. The fifth book is set in the same universe but features different characters. The first book in the series is Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts.

Hmm, I just realized that nothing I read this week was set on earth!

I finished Heat Exchange by Shannon Stacey, it was okay.
I just started Thread and Gone by Lea Wait.
