What Are You Reading? (516)

Casee: I’m about to start Praying for Rain by B.B. Easton. This is a new-to-me author. It’s a dystopian/apocalypse now sort of book. I love dystopian books.

I’m listening to Husband by Penelope Sky. Man, this book is giving me all the feels; not necessarily good ones.

Holly: I had a great little weekend getaway last week, but I didn’t manage to read very much. I finished Getting Schooled by Christina C. Jones and I read Sweep with Me, a novella by Ilona Andrews. This week I read and listened to Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder. I hadn’t read it in a number of years and I’m happy to report it held up very well. I’m reading Magic Study, the second book, now.

Rowena: This week was another solid reading week for me. Yay! I read House Rules by Ruby Lang and that was a cute second chance romance that I enjoyed. I also read The Upside to Falling by Alex Light, which was a super quick but cute YA romance as well. I also listened to P.S. I Still Love You, Pt. 1 by Lauren Blakely and I would have preferred to have the entire book to listen to because it ended in an awkward place but I still enjoyed that one and will definitely be listening to the rest of the parts. Right now, I’m finishing up One Last Chance by Therese Beharrie and this is my first book from this author but it won’t be my last. What a delightful romance this one was. All in all, it was a good reading week for me.

What are you reading this week? Any new favorites or books that drove you crazy? Share!

  1. Paper ARC of Shelly Laurenston’s Badger to the Bone. And because I was 3/4 of the way through and left it in my car and was too lazy to put on pants to go outside to get it for 3 days, I’m also reading a paper ARC of Kwana Jackson’s Men Who Knit. And on audio (because I always have an audio going) I’m rereading the Hailey Edwards Guide to Necromancy series. I’m on book 2, How to Claim an Undead Soul, but I only have about 20 minutes or so left.

My favorite book this week was Jackie Ashenden’s latest for Harlequin Presents: CROWNED AT THE DESERT KING’S COMMAND. It’s both a quintessential HP (virgin heroine, fabulously wealthy royal hero, marriage of convenience, angst, heartbreak, tears) and a quintessential Jackie Ashenden (hero & heroine with astonishing eye colors, absent/abusive/distant/dead parents, similar dysfunctional childhoods, and really hot sexy-times…well, for an HP). I know I’m probably an outlier with my love for the Harlequin Presents, but I thought CROWNED AT THE DESERT KING’S COMMAND was an excellent book.

I’m now reading Caitlin Crews’s latest for Harlequin’s Dare line, TEACH ME. It’s a bdsm romance featuring a Dom hero and a sub heroine (who also happens to be the younger sister of the hero’s best friend). I like that it’s not all about spanking and handcuffs, etc., but spends more time in the heads of these characters—why they like what they like and how they feel when they’re in a “scene.” At the halfway point, I’m liking it very much.

My reading mojo has run away! Far, far away . . Wondering if I should put up flyers for it 😀

Still enjoying the book reviews though . .

    Since last time ~

    — How to Draw Inky Wonderlands: Create and Color Your Own Magical Adventure by Johanna Basford. It did not take long to read; however, it would take quite some time to do all the projects. I enjoyed it.
    — reread with pleasure Written in Red by Anne Bishop which I enjoyed once again.
    — My book group chose to read a TOME this month … 716 pages of text plus pictures and another 200 pages of back matter. I generally start a book group book the weekend before we meet on a Thursday; however, I decided it behooved me to start this book much sooner. We meet later this month, and I’ve been reading a couple of chapters daily for the past week. The book is Ninth Street Women: Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell… by Mary Gabriel
