What Are You Reading? (+ Jessie Mihalik Giveaway)

Casee: I’m reading Own the Wind by Kristen Ashley. I’m about 20% into it. I actually set it aside the day before yesterday and started Shadow Warrior by Christine Feehan, intending to go back to it. However, someone didn’t like that so I went back to it. I’m traveling today so I’m hoping to finish it.

I am listening to Written in Red by Anne Bishop. It started out really slow, but it has picked up and I am really loving it. It’s not really a romance, though it has romantic elements to it. Usually that would bother me, but honestly, this book is so good that I hardly even notice that there isn’t as much romance as I usually prefer.

Holly: I had a super slow reading week. I spent the entire week reading Wild Country and listening to Lake Silence by Anne Bishop. I’m not sure if it was the books or me, but I had the hardest time focusing. I need to collect my thoughts about Wild Country before I discuss it, but Lake Silence was as an enjoyable as always.

Now I’m reading Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh. I haven’t settled on a new audiobook yet.

Rowena: It’s been an interesting week in books for me. I came off a couple of weeks of not reading much of anything and then this week, I read two books. The first book I read was Bad Bachelor (Bad Bachelors #1) by Stefanie London and while I really enjoyed the romance, there were people and things in that book that drove me batty that I ended up not loving the book as much as I wanted to. I moved on from that book and jumped into the second book in the Bad Bachelors series, Bad Reputation and I enjoyed that book even less. I’m really bummed about that because so many bloggers that I enjoy loved these books but they’re just not for me. I got book 3 in this series for review and I’m stuck right now because I don’t want to read it. I hate the heroine for book 3 so much that I’m like…

Fuck that noise, it’s decided…I’m not reading it. Instead, I’m going to read The Dating Game by Kiley Roache.

I’m number three on the library hold list for Devil’s Daughter, so that triggered a reread of the previous books. I’m currently halfway through Devil in Spring and loving Pandora and Gabriel just as much as the first time around. In between, I’m also reading an alien romance called Stolen by an Alien by Amanda Milo. It’s a fun read.

I’m suitably envious, Holly, that you’re reading Wild Country. Enjoy your listen of Written in Red, Casee; I agree that it has romantic elements. You could say, considering all five books in the series, that it’s the ultimate slow burn. Rowena, here’s hoping for better reading next week.

I’m rereading Linesman by SK Dunstall for the nth time. Will be back with my list of books read.

    Recent reads here ~

    — Doris Egan’s fantasy The Gate of Ivory. I enjoyed it, but I’m not sure if I’ll continue on with the trilogy.feed
    — Cat Pictures Please and Other Stories by Naomi Kritzer. This is a collection of stories that I quite enjoyed. The stories are quite diverse in setting and subject matter. I liked some more than others, but I liked them all. The title story won a Hugo Award.
    — read with pleasure Anne Cleeland’s Murder in Just Cause (The Doyle & Acton Mystery Series Book 9),
    — read New Readers Press’ Teaching Adults: A Literacy Resource Book as I intend to resume literacy tutoring after a long hiatus. While I wouldn’t describe it as a scintillating read, it had some worthwhile information.
    — Matthew Quick’s young adult novel Every Exquisite Thing; ); I almost gave up on the book but persevered and ultimately found it an intriguing read.
    — Reread SK Dunstall’s Linesman yet again.

Reading has been slow-going for me for quite a while. I seem to be more in a movie/tv watching phase right now. I did manage to read and love Huge Deal by Lauren Layne.

  7. I thought Wild Country was the tiniest bit slow to start but after a few chapters I was invested and then I could hardly put it down. I think it was the familiar setting and some familiar faces that had me enjoying Wild Country more than Lake Silence.

I just started A Court of Frost and Starlight yesterday. I know a lot of people were a bit disappointed in it and said it added nothing to the overall story, but I don’t even care. I just love revisiting the characters. 🙂

Neanderthal romances are the bomb! wish there were more epic romances such in league with Jean Auel’s elk! It’s a thing. Hello…vampire/werewolf romance, warm bodies (zombie love) and I Am Dragon (dragon love)…I am interested in this genre of book and as you can read in this comment, sadly only have movies to go off of and kinda sick of the tried and true vampire/werewolf romances. Any suggestions besides this one?

I wish I knew more about epic romance novels such as those in league with Jean Auel’s Clan of the cave bear series! I have a thing for this kind of “unorthodox” romance partner themes. Hello…vampire/werewolf romance is getting overdone, warm bodies (zombie love) and I Am Dragon (dragon love)…I am interested in this genre of book but don’t know where to look for new reading material… and as you can read in this comment, sadly only have movies to go off of. Any suggestions?
Probably hooked from an early age as I was enamored with Beauty and the Beast. (the tv show of the same name from the 90s (the beast was named Vincent and lived underneath New York City, who saved a damsel in distress reporter/writer) Wonder what Fraud would say about women’s lust for the wild side and where it comes from?

Lee, have you read Transcendence by Shay Savage? You could describe it as a caveman romance. I enjoyed it.
